Producers wanted a specific name for the fictional band, but the name was already taken. They had to buy the name out, and the real band used the money to produce their first album under a new name. That band was Extreme.

Dreams was mainly filmed at Charles Evans Hughes School in the San Fernando Valley (Gino and Phils apartment and Franks Bar) in 1984 which was closed down and later also used in The Karate Kid.
