Henry Cavill has joined the expansive list of stars for the live-action version of Voltron adapted by Amazon's MGM Studios, but a crucial detail around the production is yet to be confirmed. The movie will offer a refreshing take on the long-standing Japanese animated series under the same title, and will be directed by Rawson Marshall. Marshall's previous work for Warner Bros. Pictures' We're the Millers and Netflix's Red Notice suggest that the upcoming project is gearing up to be a rather exciting movie, although details including the addition of three new stars to Voltron's cast are still being kept under wraps.

The announcement from Deadline regarding the Hollywood star offered no further insight into the character's role or the upcoming feature's story, though it's been speculated Voltron may be an ideal replacement for Pacific Rim's short-lived franchise. Exclusive: Bidding is heating up on Voltron, a live-action version that went out to the town recently, with Red Notice and Dodgeball’s Rawson Marshall Thurber attached to direct. Deal’s not done yet, but Deadline hears that Amazon Studios is in talks to be home to the giant robot.

Several studios have been in the mix on the property. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman are on board to produce with Bob Koplar. Ellen Shanman is writing the script with Thurber.

Lego builder Leandro a.k.a. len_d69 submitted this fan-made Voltron: Defender of the Universe Lego set to Lego Ideas and it got the 10,000 votes it needed to pushed into actual development! What's so awesome about this, is that each individual Lego built lion combines to form the giant robot Voltron! 

I'm just surprised that Lego had never done this before! They needed a fan to come in design it and push it through. I don't buy a lot of Lego playsets but this is one that I'd definitly consider dropping some cash on. Here's a description of the set from the creator:

Filmmaker Gore Verbinski is following in the footsteps of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, with plans to develop video game content and more for Microsoft. The Hollywood Reporter has detailed an agreement between Verbinski's Blind Wink Productions and Microsoft to create a Kinect-based Xbla game for the 360 to be released sometime late in 2012 as well as additional content--whatever shape that may take--for other Microsoft devices. There's no detail on the duration of the exclusivity agreement or what additional devices, type of content this will entail. I know a couple of years back, Microsoft tried to get into original video content, enlisting horror directors to create comedy shorts but since then there hasn't been any kind of deal of this nature.

Thanks to our Voltron friends, we have two Voltron mask avatars for XBox to give away.

Here is what you will see when you go to download the game from the XBox Marketplace. The cost to download the game, when it becomes available on Wednesday, will be 800 Microsoft Points. More will be released on the launch date but why wait?

Voltron: Defender of the Universe, produced by Thq and Behaviour Interactive, will be a 1-5 player online co-op game. Players will be able fight as the individual lions in an overhead shooter style gameplay to then form Voltron to take on Robeasts in a fighter style combat.

Premiering in 1984, Voltron: Defender of the Universe took licensed material from 3 Japanese shows and re-edited them with new scripts that reflected the sensibilities of American audiences, such as cutting down violence and cultural references. Back in the fall of 2009, we told you about the emergence of a live-action Voltron movie by Atlas Entertainmentbased on the 1980’s cartoon series . The project has been floundering in Hollywood’s “development-hell” for years with various wishful producers seeking to revive the robot defender of the universe.

After a tussle over the rights over the television property and a bidding war between Relativity Media and Atlas Entertainment, the dust has finally settled to land the project to be developed by both Relativity and Atlas. Atlas’ Charles Roven (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight) and Richard Suckle (The International) and Kickstart Entertainment’s Jason Netter (Voltron Force, Wanted) will produce the project. Ted Koplar (Voltron Force) of World Event Productions, who sold the feature film rights, will executive produce.
