JoBeth Williams turned down a supporting role in the Robert Redford picture The Natural (1984) to star in this film according to an article published in the 23rd August 1983 issue of 'The Los Angeles Times' newspaper. This was because she wanted to make a movie like Charade (1963). She said: "I think audiences are ready for a film with a romantic background."
An interior set of a penthouse suite at Paris' Hôtel de Crillon at the Place de la Concorde was recreated on a sound-stage at the Studio de Boulogne in Paris, France because the actual real one was not big enough for the requirements of filming.
