From Grease in a brawler to Kindergarten Cop in a classic survival horror, movies had a habit of unexpectedly popping up in 80s and 90s videogames.
There’s long been a link between movies and videogames. There were the earliest licenced games, such as Atari’s groundbreaking Star Wars cabinet or the same company’s slightly less successful E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial console tie-in.
Then there are games that take inspiration from the themes, production design or plot points of movies; Technos coin-op Renegade, when reworked for its western release, drew on the urban malaise of Walter Hill’s 1979 movie The Warriors, for example. Then there are all the games that have borrowed from the look of the Alien franchise, which are too numerous to mention.
Every so often, though, films used to make unexpected cameos in 1980s and 90s videogames. In some instances, their appearance was so brief,...

It's hard to recommend the "Terrifier" films, seeing that they are the most violent, disgusting, and morally loathsome horror movies on the current cinematic landscape. But it's easy to warn people about them, and for the right breed of horror fan to take that warning as all the recommendation they need. God help me: I've become an Art the Clown fan, and each new entry in this ludicrously violent slasher series keeps finding new ways to test what I find acceptable in my entertainment.
"Terrifier 3" picks up the baton from its nasty, nightmarish predecessor and sprints with it. Like the surprise hit "Terrifier 2," the new movie is a nauseating experience where every death scene is masterclass in practical special effects wizardry. But also like the second movie, there's an eerie tinge of fantasy throughout the whole thing that makes it all feel like a weird dream to the viewer.

Chicago – One of the greatest superhero movies of all time is about to get the “Super Emx” treatment. “Superman II” will be presented on the largest screen in Illinois, at the Emagine Batavia on October 11th, 2024, and will feature a two day event with Sarah Douglas, who portrayed Phantom Zone villain Ursa. For tickets and details, click Superman.
“Superman” (1978) and “Superman II” (1980) were filmed simultaneously by director Richard Donner. British actor Sarah Douglas portrayed the icy Kryptonian Ursa, a villain who was banished in the first Superman film to the “Phantom Zone” in space, imprisoning her and two colleagues (Terrance Stamp as General Zod and Jack O’Halloran as the mute Non). In “Superman II,” the detainees break free of the Zone and wreak havoc on earth, the new home planet of Superman (Christopher Reeve). When shooting pick ups for the second film, Richard Donner was summarily fired and replaced by director Richard Lester,...

The "Terrifier" franchise is known for its stomach-churning gore and impressive low-budget effects, but the most surprising aspect of Damien Leone's films isn't the horror –- it's the fantasy. The property, which began in 2016 and continues this month with its third blood-soaked installment, has incorporated elements of the surreal and fantastical since pretty early on. At the end of the first film, Art the killer clown (David Howard Thornton) comes back to life, and in the second movie, a mystical sword, visions of a little girl, and an unholy birth all come into play.
These fantasy elements make the "Terrifier" franchise feel more ambitious and mysterious than the average hyper-violent slasher, but they often don't get talked about as much as the movies' headline-grabbing, barf-inducing kills. In an interview ahead of the "Terrifier 3" premiere at Fantastic Fest this year, /Film's Jacob Hall asked writer, director, and producer Leone about his '80s influences,...

In Hollywood's eyes, before James Cameron became a household name for directing things like "The Terminator," "Titanic," and "Avatar," he was just another guy who had worked for low-budget producer Roger Corman and directed the little-seen stinker "Piranha II: The Spawning." Few people were paying much attention to Cameron at that point, but apparently, one industry veteran who had his eye on the up-and-coming filmmaker was legendary director Steven Spielberg.
During a tribute to Spielberg that took place at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles back in 2011, directors Michael Apted, J.J. Abrams, and James Cameron interviewed Spielberg in front of a sold-out crowd, and Cameron shared a story about a note Spielberg gave on Cameron's idea for what would become the 1986 sci-fi action classic "Aliens."

The 1984 summer movie season kicked off in May and early June with a flurry of blockbusters. "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" opened to a gargantuan $25 million over Memorial Day weekend, and, unconcerned about getting chopped up in the mega-sequel's wake, Paramount scored a $17 million debut the following weekend with "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock." If you're thinking the studios might sit out a weekend while these films dominate the box office, Columbia and Warner Bros opted to throw a couple of haymakers over the June 8 three-day with, respectively, "Ghostbusters" and "Gremlins."
And then, on the fourth weekend of the summer movie season, Hollywood at last took a breather. With kids fresh out of school, the studios sat back and watched the aforementioned titles continue to flourish, while other pricey gambles (e.g. "Streets of Fire" and "Once Upon a Time in America") flopped.

It’s not just action stars going to unscrupulous lengths to achieve cinematic prowess in their movies, Action megastar Arnold Schwarzenegger also proved his commitment to his roles by doing what could be unthinkable for many. The actor has endured a lot for his character in his 1982 movie Conan the Barbarian.

In his book, Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life, the actor revealed the extent of the path he took to meet the demand of the director to acutely portray his character. Schwarzenegger’s confession might be a goosebump for many fans, but it shows how the actor went on to do terrible things for the sake of perfecting a character.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was a guy always known for his famous and outrageous stunts, both inside and outside the set. But this one time he had everyone shocked during his visit to a WWE show as he got up from his chair and began to tackle down WWE athlete Triple H. Although this could be seen as a stunt to promote his then-upcoming movie, End of Days, it caught the eye of everyone.
For Arnold Schwarzenegger, both boxing and professional wrestling are the sports of his greatest liking. He has been spotted attending many boxing matches and WWE events over the years, and has even made appearances in both. He understands the hard work and dedication that goes into these sports, and he appreciates the athleticism and entertainment value that they provide.

A scene from She Is Conann. Courtesy of Altered Innocence
Let’s begin with the title, She Is Conann. One might expect a distaff approximation of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1982 Conan The Barbarian, its sequel Conan The Destroyer two years later, and the zillion, or so, incarnations those spawned in live action or anime over the following 41 years. Or a reboot of 1985’s Red Sonja, in which statuesque Brigitte Nielsen matched Ahnuld’s Kalidor (think Conan Lite) blow-for-blow. But, as the Pythons would say, “And now for something completely different…”
This version comes from France, Belgium and Luxembourg. It’s sort of a post-apocalyptic or alternate universe piece of mysticism, with time travel in the mix. The tale is narrated in a wraparound with an elderly Conann telling her story to a possible successor to her throne, guided by dog-faced vassal, Rainer (Elina Lowensohn). I didn’t mention who plays Conann...

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger,” reads the Nietzschean maxim that serves as epigraph for writer-director John Milius’s 1982 adaptation of Conan the Barbarian, thereby encouraging viewers to plumb the philosophical depths of this rousing sword-and-sorcery epic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger from the get-go. So it’s sort of ironic to consider that, given the film’s commercial success and subsequent cult status, Milius no doubt contributed to the seemingly endless proliferation of this slogan across multiple platforms, emblazoned on everything from motivational posters to coffee mugs.
Milius’s seriousness of intent is signaled from the opening scene when Conan’s father (William Smith) advises his young son (Jorge Sanz) to trust nothing in this world but his sword. Critics at the time believed this solipsistic bit of paternal advice to reflect the ruthless individualism of Reagan’s America. But things are a bit more complicated than that,...

The adventures of Conan the Barbarian are not, in their purest form, for children. Created by pulp author Robert E. Howard in 1932, the Cimmerian warrior inhabits a cruel world ruled by those who are handiest with a sword or endowed with the power of sorcery. Though Conan is uncommonly chivalric, he is utterly ruthless in combat — and Howard's battle scenes are described in invigoratingly vicious detail. There are impalements and beheadings and wholesale eviscerations. There are also orgies and elements of bondage. But the presence of wizards and dragons and all kinds of nasty monsters means Conan's tales are catnip for kids.
There have been efforts to tone down the sex and violence of Conan's tales, but they are essential to his appeal. Howard wrote with a boundless fury; he roared and raged as he bashed away at his typewriter. The savagery is the point. If you want sanitized, kid-friendly fantasy,...

Killer cyborgs, A-list megastars, groundbreaking visual effects And a kick-ass soundtrack! It can mean only one thing. Yes, that’s right, good friends of JoBlo, uber director James Cameron is back to show us exactly how to follow up one of the biggest smash hits of your career with a sequel that had to surpass the expectations of even the most hardcore fan of the original movie, and also show the world how to revolutionize modern VFX…Again. Cameron had already wowed audiences with The Terminator back in 1984 and had proven that he could create impressive sequels to existing sci-fi franchises with the action-heavy Aliens in 1986. He’d also made great strides with visual effects in 1989’s The Abyss so could his original vision of having a liquid terminator in the franchise really work?

It took a very long time for Hollywood to take Marvel Comics seriously, and "Howard the Duck" gets a lot of the blame for that. By the mid-1980s, films like "Star Wars" and "Superman: The Movie" had incited a proper revolution in the film industry. Genres that previously weren't big hits — financially or critically — didn't just make lots of money, but they made movie stars out of actors nobody had previously heard of, and even won awards. All of a sudden, sci-fi/fantasy and pulp heroes weren't just "kids' stuff." They were surefire recipes for four-quadrant success.
But even though Marvel was churning out superhero TV shows like nobody's business — not just Saturday morning cartoons but primetime hits like "The Incredible Hulk" and "Spider-Man: The Animated Series" — Marvel's first big budget foray into live-action theatrical features wasn't based on one of their most iconic costumed crimefighters. Instead it was "Howard the Duck,...

To mark the release of his upcoming book, “Be Useful: Tools for Life”, Arnold Schwarzenegger came up with a pretty fitting way to unveil his copies: by using his Conan the Barbarian sword to open the box. Outside of firing a rocket launcher at the box, it seems to be about the coolest way for Schwarzenegger to promote the release.
Not only did Arnold Schwarzenegger get to show off copies of his self-help book – which is now out – to his Instagram followers but he also got his miniature pony Whiskey, donkey Lulu and pig Schnelly in on the fun. And while Arnold is known to be an animal lover, we just don’t see him teaching these barnyard creatures how to read.

Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s self-help book and memoir Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life is now on store shelves (copies can be purchased at This Link), and in that book Schwarzenegger discusses some of the terrible stuff – actually, he says terrible shit, but I didn’t want to put that in the headline – that Conan the Barbarian director John Milius had him doing during the making of that classic.
Schwarzenegger wrote (with thanks to Insider for sharing), “I learned to ride horses and camels and elephants. I learned how to jump from large rocks, how to climb and swing from long ropes, how to fall from a height. I basically went to another vocational school, this one for aspiring action heroes. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new self-help book and memoir “Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life” recalls the crazy things he had to do to pull off his most iconic film roles. 1984’s Conan the Destroyer was an attempt to soften Arnold Schwarzenegger’s titular barbarian into a PG-rated fantasy film hero. The result was a movie that was only a middling success in theaters, being overshadowed by Arnold’s other big 1984 movie, James Cameron’s The Terminator. Conan the Destroyer proved to be the last time Arnie would play Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian icon, and in the decades since its release the movie’s reputation has been pretty atrocious. Hardcore fans prefer John Millius’s darker, R-rated Conan the Barbarian to Richard Fleischer’s lighter, family friendly version which seemed to owe a lot more to eighties fantasy movies like The Beastmaster than Millius’s original. It’s a deeply silly film, and one of the cheapest Schwarzenegger’s films of the eighties, with him essentially forced into making this and the following year’s Red Sonja to fulfil a...

During a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter that covered various topics, Arnold Schwarzenegger briefly spoke about two big time franchises that are synonymous with his name: Terminator and Conan the Barbarian. He’s done with one. But not the other.
“The franchise is not done. I’m done,” Schwarzenegger tells THR when speaking about the long-running Terminator franchise that he recently returned to for 2019’s Dark Fate.
The actor continues, “I got the message loud and clear that the world wants to move on with a different theme when it comes to The Terminator. Someone has to come up with a great idea. The Terminator was largely responsible for my success, so I always would look at it very fondly. The first three movies were great. Number four [Salvation] I was not in because I was governor. Then five [Genisys] and six [Dark Fate] didn’t close the deal as far as I’m concerned.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may be done with the Terminator franchise, but he’s not ready to call it quits on Conan the Barbarian.
Following the release of Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer, a third installment of the franchise was planned before it eventually entered development hell. Since then, the project has surfaced several times over the years but just can’t seem to get off the ground. While speaking with THR, Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals that he’s still game to play Conan one more time, but the issue seems to be tied up with who owns the rights.
“It’s been pending for the last 10 years. [Fredrik] Malmberg owns the rights,” Arnold Schwarzenegger said. “He comes to me and says, ‘Oh, I have a deal with Netflix,’ and when we ask Netflix, they don’t know anything about it. It’s one of those crazy things. I hope he figures it out.

The 1982 fantasy epic "Conan the Barbarian" is a silly but fun flick filled with swords, sorcery, and sandals, and it signaled the beginning of star Arnold Schwarzenegger's decades-long career as an action star. The movie received mixed reviews at the time but has gone on to be a bit of a cult classic, in part because of the love for the overall "Conan" franchise, which started with Robert E. Howard's "Conan" stories. Schwarzenegger plays the title character, a barbarian out for revenge after the deaths of his parents, and he would reprise the role in the 1984 sequel, "Conan the Destroyer." The role is kind of perfect for Schwarzenegger, playing a buff and brutal warrior with natural charisma but not a lot of dialogue, putting him on the map and introducing audiences everywhere to the Hyborian Age.

The Terminator star has sat for a series of candid interviews that form part of a three-part documentary series for Netflix.
The streamer is launching Arnold on June 7 and it comes from director Lesley Chilcott and executive producer Allen Hughes. The documentary series comes as Netflix is preparing to launch scripted series Fubar, created by Nick Santora, where he plays a veteran CIA operative on the verge of retirement in his first ever TV role.
Arnold will chronicle Schwarzenegger’s journey from the countryside of Austria to the highest echelons of the American dream. It will cover everything from his days pumping iron to his triumphs in Hollywood, his time governing the state of California and both the joys and turbulence of his family life in a tale that matches his larger-than-life persona.

One of the most eagerly anticipated series of the spring is coming to Netflix on April 6. Ali Wong and Steven Yeun star in “Beef” as strangers involved in a road-rage incident. But rather than let insurance sort it out, the two drivers morph into lunatics bent on revenge, resulting in increasingly harrowing — and hilarious — circumstances.
Watch the trailer for “Beef”:
More than just a meme, on April 13, Netflix unveils limited series “Florida Man,” which follows a struggling ex-cop (played by Edgar Ramírez) forced to return to his home state of Florida to find a Philly mobster’s runaway girlfriend. What should be a quick gig becomes a wildly spiraling journey into buried family secrets and an increasingly futile attempt to do the right thing in a place where so much is wrong.

Also coming to Netflix in April will be the final chapter of “Firefly Lane.

So many great stories in history start out with the key players hating each other — as it is in Netflix and A24’s “Beef,” streaming on Netflix in April. Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) meet via parking lot bump turned action-movie car chase, their lives connecting and their road rage lingering in weeks and months after the incident. In reviewing the series, IndieWire’s Ben Travers said that “’Beef’ does a fine job balancing Amy and Danny’s practical intelligence and impractical passions; their bitterness toward the other driver ebbs and flows as their personal lives better or worsen, and it’s in these moments that the half-hour drama thrives.”

The character of Flash Gordon has had a long and rich history in pop culture lasting almost 100 years. The first appearance of the space bound all-American hero was found in a science-fiction comic strip created in 1934 by illustrator Alex Raymond and writer Don Moore. Former Olympian and actor Buster Crabbe appeared as the character in the classic Universal serials that depicted Flash Gordon's clashes with Ming the Merciless on the planet Mongo. Fondly remembered for their air of wispy nostalgia, the "Flash Gordon" serials always ended on a cliffhanger. I remember one in particular where Flash is thrown down a dark hole with no chance of escape, only to be saved by the sudden deployment of a net in the first scene of the next episode.
That is to say, "Flash Gordon" was always a little ridiculous.
The Buster Crabbe serials have certainly left their mark on film history, but...

Picture the scene: A camera pans over the charred remains of what was once a large section of dense rainforest in the Central American banana republic of Val Verde. Suddenly, the cloaked feet of a Predator come into view. The alien hunter plunges a barely visibly claw down into the ashen ground where flora and fauna once flourished. A second later, the severed arm of a Predator is pulled from the shattered earth. The semi-visible Predator makes a bee-line for his fallen comrade’s wrist-based computer.
A read-out appears on its screen, detailing everything that led to this point. The replay stops on the image of a human face: it’s a face audiences know all too well from a decade of action movies. Right here and right now though, they know him as Maj. Alan “Dutch” Schaefer. Without saying a word, the Predator knows this is its next target.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have played the Terminator five times over a span of 35 years, but outside of his career-defining role, the action icon doesn’t generally tend to make a lot of sequels. In fact, if you discount his recurring cameo appearances in The Expendables, then the actor hasn’t done a direct follow-up to any of his other movies since 1984’s Conan the Destroyer.
Of course, that hasn’t stopped people from making them without his involvement, with sequels to Predator, Kindergarten Cop, Jingle All the Way and Escape Plan arriving over the last two decades, while continuations of Total Recall, Twins and True Lies were all in the works at various points before eventually coming to nothing.

Conan the Barbarian is coming to Netflix…and we don’t mean its movie archive! Rather, the streaming giant is moving forward with a live-action television series adapting the swords, sorcery and loincloths-laden mythos created by Robert E. Howard, famously depicted as comic book art from Barry Windsor-Smith and cemented in history as portrayed onscreen by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Pathfinder Media, of Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler, have conceived the Conan television project, which has been put into development by Netflix, according to Deadline. The project stems from a deal between Netflix and IP owner Conan Properties International, yielding the streaming giant exclusive rights to the multimedia archives—be it books, television and films—to adapt as new works. Indeed, it’s a strategy that mirrors widely-encompassing exclusive deals Netflix made in recent years to produce serial adaptations of author Roald Dahl’s work, and comic book titles under Mark Millar’s Millarworld branding.

A live-action TV series based on “Conan the Barbarian” is in development at Netflix, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
The project is from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media. It is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, which is owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The two will serve as executive producers.
The series does not have a writer/showrunner or director yet. A search for those roles is underway.
Conan the Barbarian is based on the character by Robert E. Howard, who introduced the sword-wielding fighter in a series of short stories that were first published in 1932.
The character has been adapted in numerous forms, most famously by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982’s “Conan the Barbarian,” which was his first major role and rocketed him to international fame. He again played the character in the 1984 sequel, “Conan the Destroyer.

A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media.

When you think of the glory days of the action movie in the 1980s when the genre was populated by larger-than-life heroes that favored biceps and brawn in favor of smarts or subtlety, then you’d be forgiven for thinking that many of the actors that built their reputation in the realm of straightforward shoot-em’-ups don’t have much between the ears.
However, despite what their well-established screen personas would suggest, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dolph Lundgren in particular are far from one-dimensional musclebound lunkheads. As well as becoming the biggest movie star in the world, Schwarzenegger is a hugely successful businessman, investor and entrepreneur that was already a millionaire before he even got into acting as well as a humanitarian and philanthropist, and that’s without even mentioning his stint as the Governor of California.

Linda Hamilton reveals she didn't want to work with Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was first suggested for The Terminator.
As it turns out, maybe there is a reason Sarah Connor was so convincing when she ran from the T-800 in the original 1984 The Terminator. At least that is one way to view Linda Hamilton’s confession on The Graham Norton Show that she initially didn't want to work with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The news came when the pair appeared on the British television talk show to promote their long overdue onscreen reunion in Terminator: Dark Fate. As Norton reveals in the exclusive clip below, Linda Hamilton had major reservations about working with “the Austrian Oak,” as Schwarzenegger was known at the time.

It’s no secret that Arnold Schwarzenegger is keen on returning to the role of Conan the Barbarian, having shown an interest in an Old Man Conan story as recently as February this year. Nothing really came of that, unfortunately, but apparently, Schwarzenegger met with the 1982 Conan the Barbarian movie director John Milius at Silicon Valley Comic-Con the other week, where they discussed the latter’s King Conan screenplay.
A third film in the Conan franchise, discounting his appearance in Red Sonja and the Jason Momoa reboot, has been around since the 1980s, and a King Conan script since the early 2000s. However, Schwarzenegger was unable to commit to it due to his political career. Posting a photo of himself on Instagram with Milius at the Con though, the actor admitted:

Even though Arnold Schwarzenegger is at the ripe ol’ age of 69, he’s still very much a busy actor. Indeed, the Austrian-American superstar has been toiling away at this year’s highly anticipated Terminator: Dark Fate. The sequel finally sees him reuniting with both veteran filmmaker James Cameron, and his former co-star Linda Hamilton. However, that’s not to say that he’s finished with all his other iconic franchises. Case in point: the Conan The Barbarian series.
That’s right, Arnie has allegedly been trying his best to get a sequel to 1982’s Conan The Barbarian and 1984’s Conan The Destroyer off the ground. Back in 2016, The Austrian Oak insisted that a script had already been written. The project was tentatively named The Legend Of Conan or Conan The Conqueror and would see the Hollywood A-lister, “sitting on the throne for years and years – decades, and then all of the sudden,...

There’s been an awesome concept for a new Conan movie floating around for awhile. That concept is for a film called Legend of Conan, and it came from screenwriter Chris Morgan.
The film would be a sequel to the classic 1982 film which left off with an older King Conan sitting on his throne, deep in thought, wearing the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon his brow. This film is nowhere near getting made at this point and that’s because of rights issues.
Arnold still wants to reprise his role, and in a recent interview with The Arnold Fans he explains the why the film is being held up and is certainly sounds frustrating:
“When it comes to the movie, the sad stuff about all of this is when there’s an estate like this…The Robert E. Howard estate…when someone buys these rights, those people now own the...

For a while now, Arnold Schwarzenegger has been trying to get a new Conan movie off the ground, and he’s eager to reprise the role for a decades-later sequel to 1982’s Conan the Barbarian and 1984’s Conan the Destroyer. “It’s a movie that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Let’s do it,” Schwarzenegger had […]...

Arnold Schwarzenegger took to Instagram to show his support for Marvel’s new Conan The Barbarian comic book, which features the legendary actor on the cover.
The comic book comes from writer Jason Aaron (The Mighty Thor) and artist Mahmud Asrar and here’s the synopsis:
From an age undreamed…hither came Conan the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet… Robert E. Howard’s creation returns to comics, in an epic tale as only Marvel could bring you! Conan’s travels have brought him to the far reaches of the unkown, from his birthplace in Cimmeria to the kingdom of Aquilonia and all in between. As his fighting prowess allows him to carve his way through life, so too does it attract the forces of death!

In an age of remakes, reboots, and rehashes, it’s suddenly become refreshing to see homage — especially the self-aware kind. If you’ve seen the alternate posters for Rawson Marshall Thurber’s Skyscraper that crib off the designs of Die Hard and The Towering Inferno, you understand how the filmmakers have embraced comparison due to their love for those genre classics. It’s this love that allows them to take a step back and create their own story in those images, at once honoring the past, updating for the present, and creating something wholly new. Nobody going to see the comedic-minded Thurber’s foray into straight dramatic thrills is doing so with the intent to be blown away by anything more than the special effects, crazy stunts, and tailor-made sets for mayhem.

Grace Jones has been an enigmatic performer for decades. Whether you know her from her music, or from her acting roles in Conan the Destroyer, A View to a Kill, Vamp or Boomerang, the mystery and unknown have been central to her mystique. Filmmaker Sophie Fiennes, who has been friends with Jones for 15 years, filmed her recording and performing, while opening up on camera in between. She's been a Grammy nominee and a disco glamazon, a supermodel and a slave to the rhythm, a Bond femme fatale and Conan the Barbarian's cohort, a style icon and a Studio 54 habitué. She is Grace Jones, and this tall, fearsome Jamaican remains an instantly recognizable celebrity and a fertile creative force. But director Sophie Fiennes' immersive and intimate documentary, Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami, reveals a side of the artist rarely glimpsed by her legions of fans: unguarded, tender, down-home, vulnerable. Rather than follow the standard cradle-to-comeback trajectory of a music biodoc,...
