When Randal Kleiser‘s “The Blue Lagoon” was released in 1981, it was an instant sensation; the beautifully photographed tale of sexual awakening between two teenagers (Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins) set against the backdrop of a tropical island paradise combined prurience and elegance in a potent cocktail that audiences couldn’t get enough of at the time. Its $60-million gross against a $5-million budget couldn’t be ignored — especially by other filmmakers looking to replicate its success.
As was so often the case, Italian filmmakers were particularly aggressive in their plagiarism, with films like the now-forgotten “Due gocce d’acqua salata” blatantly ripping off both the premise and the marketing of “The Blue Lagoon.” But the most well-known “Blue Lagoon” imitator came from an unlikely location for an exotic travelogue centered on sensual exploration: Canada.

Simply doing a literal red carpet for a red carpet event isn’t enough anymore. Especially when it’s a party as big as the Met Gala.
Each year, the Met Gala rolls out a new carpet design that’s inspired by the theme of the evening.
This year, the star-studded crowd, which includes co-chairs Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny and Chris Hemsworth, is walking up steps that are covered in a cream color with mossy green accents along the sides.
The design choice is in keeping with the dress code of the 2024 Met Gala, “The Garden of Time,” which is inspired by a J.G. Ballard story.
Meanwhile, the sides of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s storied steps are lined with greenery-covered barriers between the stars and photographers and reporters, and the walls are painted with forest scenes that look like they could be out of an old masters painting.

Just days after Scarlett Johansson wore a Marchesa dress to the 2018 Met Gala, Anna Wintour appeared on The Late Show and praised the actress for wearing a dress by fashion designer and ex-wife of Harvey Weinstein Georgina Chapman. The Avengers star was the first A-lister to wear Marchesa to a high-profile event since news of the Weinstein scandal broke. While host Stephen Colbert said he didn't think the dress went with the gala's "Heavenly Bodies" theme, he claimed the actress wore the gown as a statement that Chapman "shouldn't be punished for the sins of her husband," referencing the multiple sexual misconduct allegations against the disgraced producer. "I totally agree...

It seems like it’s only a matter of time before digital phenom Liza Koshy graces the cover of Vogue.
After becoming the first digital star to appear in the famed fashion bible’s 73 Questions series on YouTube, Koshy was tapped to host the red carpet pre-show for the Met Gala -- an uber-exclusive fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum Of Art chaired by former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour during which top celebs and designers turn up in avant-garde fashions. The event, which is annually held on the first Monday in May, was themed 'Heavenly Bodies' this year, and so attendees wore get-ups inspired by Catholicism.

The most controversial moment of the Met Gala was not Rihanna's Pope-inspired gown, but rather Kendall Jenner seemingly pushing a security guard out of her way on the red carpet. Kendall, who rocked a white bodysuit by designer Virgil Abloh, was posing for the cameras when she lightly nudged the guard forward — prompting social media to explode into a debate about her ~diva~ behavior. "Hey @KendallJenner, this guy was just doing his job, and yet you thought it was ok to push him out of the way so you could take a photo? Get over yourself," one person tweeted before another added, "Kendall Jenner shows up to the #MetGala in the most bland toilet paper outfit and had the nerve to push one of the handlers out of the way who was just doing his job on the carpet #Rude." Vidya Balan is anything but conventional, shattering glass ceilings and breaking stereotypes – She was the first female star from Bollywood to proudly shoulder a woman-centric film and rewrote history with the blockbuster The Dirty Picture.
Having headlined several game changing films for women stars in movies including Ishqya and the Kahaani franchise , the actress who has dared to be different and stuck to her roots, has always been a favorite while studying how the Contemporary Female Star in Bollywood has shaped aspirations for the New Indian Woman.
Tupur Chatterjee of the University of Texas at Austin Department of Radio-Television-Film, United States recently wrote a piece addressing the subject as part of Synoptique, a special selection of texts that addressed questions of “national” Indian cinema within the context of art film circuits and transnational/national/regional film industries, celebrated film cultures and the (re) discovery of forgotten ones.

The actress is mostly remembered for her good looks, but what about her impressive performances?
In Richard Dyer’s book Heavenly Bodies: Film Stars and Society, he writes that Marilyn Monroe was “the most visible star”: an actress whose life was put on display, and remains so over 50 years after her death. She is one of the most iconic Hollywood stars of all time, her face instantly recognizable to even those who have never seen any of her movies. She is a symbol of beauty, glamor, cinema, femininity, blondness, sexuality, and tragedy. While the world speculates about her personal life — who was she romantically involved with? How did she die? What was she really like? — her career as an actress is overshadowed by her fame.
While she may not have been the greatest actress of all time, she certainly had her fair share of talent and intelligence, and always worked incredibly hard to bring her...

There are roughly 900,000 tribute pieces online this week about the 1985 John Hughes film "The Breakfast Club," and I understand the motivation. If you were the right age when the film was released (I was 15 at the time), that movie felt like a lightning bolt right to the face. Hughes treated teenagers like they were actual people with complex emotional lives worthy of respect, and while that would seem to be a logical approach to writing about any character, it certainly didn't feel average when he did it. He wrote about that secret world of teenagers with what felt like laser accuracy, and he basically created an entire industry of movies that tried to tap into that same audience. So certainly, there is much to celebrate when looking back at that particular film, but when I went to look at a list of the films that came out in 1985, a year...

Most people know about Egypt's pharaohs - great rulers buried in intricate tombs surrounded by their worldly possessions and other riches - but those late leaders weren't the only ones to greet death in style. Art historian Dr. Paul Koudounaris hunted down hidden jewel-encrusted skeletons, once proudly put on display in churches, for his book Heavenly Bodies, according to CNN. Heavenly Bodies documents the journey of these morbid masterpieces, which were first unearthed from Roman catacombs as bare bones in 1578. Excavated by the Catholics, the discoverers assumed the remains were those of Christian martyrs. To demonstrate the glory and glitz...

It’s Day 2 of our Henry Cavill Twitter Watch, and the tweets about his handsomeness have definitely gotten racier. Credit goes to more people having actually now seen him on the big screen as Man of Steel’s Superman, but also to the airing of a Graham Norton Show interview in Britain, which produced so many tweets right as we began our search for inappropriate expressions of affection that we only had the stamina to look through two hours’ worth. Watch a fun Graham Norton clip below in which costar Amy Adams explains how creepy one feels talking about Henry...

"People think Hollywood and fashion are really superficial," Afonso Salcedo says in a phone interview with The Huffington Post. "But they were so affected by the HIV crisis and wanted to help when no one else would."
Salcedo is discussing his upcoming documentary film, "There Was Magic," which chronicles the combined efforts of the entertainment and fashion worlds to fight the AIDS epidemic in 1986.
Inspired by the book Heavenly Bodies: Remembering Hollywood and Fashion’s Favorite AIDS Benefit, the documentary will combine stories, interviews, archival footage and photography to revisit one of the most successful and glamorous benefits in history, where 10 ambitious and historically transformative fashion shows altered the narrative of the HIV/AIDS crisis. As Salcedo says on his Kickstarter page: "The anecdotes are real, sometimes naughty, often heart-wrenching, yet always inspiring and uplifting."
