Both are based in similar locations but 'High Country' is contemporary.''
This Australian ''telemovie shares a certain number of thematic similarities'' with the later Australian theatrical feature film Cool Change (1986) according to the 'Oz Movies' website.
The name of the country town was ''Byalong''. It is fictional and does not exist in real life. In the movie, it was apparently portrayed by the real life Australian country township of Blackwood located in the state of Victoria there.
Lead cast members, John Waters and Simone Buchanan, have also both worked on the Australian television series All Saints (1998).
