The Western is the quintessential American movie genre. Its iconography has been seared into our collective conscious: the solitary cowboy riding the endless frontier, towns struggling to survive in a lawless land, the quick-drawing gunfighter. Generations of filmmakers have engaged with those symbols, building an entire cinematic language on a genre that began with the simple premise of good “white hats” vs. bad “black hats.” In doing so, they have created mythologies, torn down legends and subverted what it means to be an American.
My exposure to the West began in the living room of my parents’ house. My father, a Sephardic Jew born and raised in Greece, shared with me the movies he loved as a child. Over the years my enthusiasm for the genre only grew as I became a history buff, a lover of myths, and eventually a filmmaker. In interviews, I’m often asked to name my favorite Western,...

So how did Geoffrey Rush score a Golden Globe nomination for playing Albert Einstein in NatGeo’s limited series “Genius” when other Hollywood figures like Kevin Spacey and Jeffrey Tambor got the cold shoulder? In late November, while the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was still accepting votes on its annual film and TV nominees, Rush was accused of unspecified misconduct during a 2015 production of “King Lear” mounted at the Sydney Theater Company. “They refused to illuminate me with the details,” an incredulous Rush said last month. The HFPA did, however, shut out prominent industry figures who have been accused of misconduct.

Saif Ali Khan have opened about Shashi Kapoor, who passed away on December 4. He took a liking to him instantly and even once bit the villain’s butt as a child when he saw him beating Shashi. Later, he bonded with him, like no other co-star of his mother Sharmila Tagore, and had a good time drinking and discussing King Lear with him. He was also happy when out of the blue, Shashi Kapoor called and said that he’ll like to repay the loan of a few lakh rupees that he took from his mother.

Geoffrey Rush has issued a statement denying an allegation of “inappropriate behavior” while performing in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production of “King Lear.” Australia’s The Daily Telegraph initially reported that it “received a complaint alleging that Mr Geoffrey Rush had engaged in inappropriate behaviour.” The story did not provide details of the allegations, and did not say the behavior was sexual in nature. That article has since been removed from the Telegraph website, and all associated tweets deleted.
“The Company received the complaint when Mr Rush’s engagement with the Company had ended,” the Stc said through a spokeswoman, according to Variety. “The Company continues to work with the complainant to minimise the risk of future instances of the alleged behaviour occurring in its workplace.”

Stars: Ryan Corr, Abbey Lee, Simone Kessell, Josh McConville, Matt Nable, Aaron Pederson | Written by Matt Nable | Directed by Stephen McCallum
The debut feature from Australian director Stephen McCallum, this gritty biker gang thriller achieves a certain level of sweaty intensity and largely pulls off its Shakespearean parallels, though there are a few wobbles along the way.
Set in present-day Australia, the film centres on biker gang member Paddo (Ryan Corr), who has taken over leadership of the Copperheads Motorcycle Club during club president Knuck’s (screenwriter Matt Nable) three year stint in jail. When Paddo’s learning disabled brother Skink (Josh McConville) steals heroin from rival gang the Devils, Paddo brokers a mutually beneficial agreement with gang leader Sugar (Aaron Pederson) in return for his brother’s life.
However, when Knuck gets out of jail, he refuses to honour the deal, putting both Skink and Paddo’s lives in danger.

In March 1988, the season one wrap party for Star Trek: The Next Generation was held at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, a landmark famous for its appearances in movies such as Rebel Without a Cause and, most recently, La La Land. Along with its stargazing capabilities, the observatory also provides one of the best vantage points of Hollywood and the greater Los Angeles area. While speaking with Et, the perspective on Star Trek franchise creator Gene Roddenberry’s mind that night was a more personal one.

This week is a very special time for superhero cartoon lovers, as September 6th marks the 25th anniversary of the highly acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series. Still beloved by fans to this day and often lauded as one of the greatest animated shows of all-time, Btas is known for its distinct “Dark Deco” animation style and its mature storytelling.

What's worse: Crushing a person's skull or crushing their spirit? The back-from-the-dead Twin Peaks has seen its fair share of the former violation, courtesy of the supernaturally strong denizens of the Black Lodge. When those demonic entities are around – whether they're Woodsmen assaulting radio-station employees or Dale Cooper's evil doppelganger shattering a rival criminal's face with a single punch after an arm-wrestling bout – no cranium is safe. And then there's the long, wordless scene starring Big Ed Hurley (Everett McGill, making his revival debut), which features no monsters and no...

Jackie Clune, front left, in Julius Caesar: I thought, ‘When am I going to get the chance to play Julius Caesar?’. How many actresses my age get to do that. I don’t know any. So it was irresistible really' Photo: Helen Maybanks In all the conversations I had with the cast of Phyllida Lloyd’s filmed version of the Donmar Warehouse’s all-female Julius Caesar, the idea of ‘breaking the mould’ came up repeatedly. Jackie Clune, who plays the title character, says that there are still battles to be fought for older women, even though actresses including Maxine Peake, Tamsin Greig and Glenda Jackson have all recently taken on traditionally male Shakespearean roles in Hamlet, Twelfth Night and King Lear.

Daddy's home, and boy is he pissed!
On Into the Badlands Season 2 Episode 4, we had some major Shakespearean drama afoot, right out of King Lear. Ryder the dick met his end (Yes!) at the hands of daddy Quinn, and I for one am very happy.
I'm not a fan At All of the Quinn family, especially Ryder.
I do hate Quinn's terrible accent, but at least he's a compelling character.
Ryder was just a one-note jerk, and the actor was awful Imo.
The world was better without you. You should have stayed dead.
Ryder [to Quinn] Permalink: The world was better without you. You should have stayed dead. Added: April 06, 2017
Just like Willy Shakespeare said in King Lear, "How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is to have a thankless child! Away, away!"
The only thing sharper? Quinn's sword, evidently, as he gutted his thankless son.
I guess this means Quinn is back as the Baron.

Screen International Star Of Tomorrow Morfydd Clark has joined The Man Who Invented Christmas.
The project, based on Les Standiford’s book, imagines how Charles Dickens created his iconic story A Christmas Carol and stars Dan Stevens as the author.
Clark will play his wife and joins Christopher Plummer (as Scrooge) and Jonathan Pryce (as Dickens’ father) in the cast.
Bharat Nalluri (Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day) directs from a script by Susan Coyne (Mozart In The Jungle).
The story begins in October 1843 when Charles Dickens was broke. Despite early success, his last three books had failed. Rejected by his publishers, he sets out to write and self-publish a book which he hopes will keep his family afloat. After six fever-pitched weeks, he created A Christmas Carol.
Clark recently appeared in Love And Friendship and Pride And Prejudice And Zombies. She also played Cordelia opposite Glenda Jackson in the...

Five episodes were provided to us prior to broadcast.
Whether religious or otherwise, HBO’s latest miniseries The Young Pope will provoke a reaction out of you. Silly, sensational, stylistic and quite often sublimely sacrilegious, writer/director Paolo Sorrentino’s daring, astounding, contemporary, deeply erratic-but-defiantly bold television program is the type of devilish, tongue-in-cheek dramedy that’ll either become your latest unholy addiction or the fiendish destain of your local church gatherings. Maybe it’ll be both? It certainly won’t be neither. It’ll for sure be controversial though, and it’ll most definitely be discussed, both with praise and scorn. But God help you if you don’t have fun watching its ferocious temptations come ablaze.
Bless me, Father, for I have sinned. The Young Pope might be one of the most scandalously marvelous original television programs of the new year and I gave into the seduction. It’s splashy,...

“It’s a fucked up mess, but I’m pretty used to it.” Peter Dunning is talking about the mangled hand that he nearly lost in a sawmill accident during his twenties, but he might as well be talking about his life.
A grizzled 68-year-old alcoholic who lives on a patchy piece of land in the earthy interior of Vermont with a flock of sheep, some bales of hay, and several decades worth of festering regrets, Dunning is constantly weighing the value of this mortal coil against the oblivion that waits for him on the other side. He’s a man pulled between primordial rage and cosmic acceptance, the sort of modern-day Hemingway character you might find at your local farmer’s market. Sometimes he’s at peace — at others, he asks a farmhand to hide his rifle so he doesn’t kill himself. In other words, Dunning is in dire need of some perspective.
