Season 12 of “The Masked Singer” continued Wednesday night on Fox with “Quarter Finals.” Following the studio audience vote that sent Goo and Strawberry Shortcake into a fierce Smackdown, Strawberry Shortcake emerged victorious leaving Goo to be unmasked. The slimy singer became the 11th eliminated singer of the season, and was revealed to be Los Angeles Rams defensive end Kobie Turner. Watch our video interview above.

“I had so much fun,” he tells Gold Derby. “Being able to be up under the Goo mask was such a great time. To be able to be my silly self, break out all the dance moves, and just be able to carry around that heavy costume. When it came to the singing part, it definitely presented some challenges breath-wise, but to be able to lunk around in that big costume was so much fun.”

The Masked Singer was inspired by the South Korean reality series, King of Mask Singer. In this show, celebrities perform songs while disguised in all sorts of elaborate costumes, hiding their identities.

New films arriving to Hulu in the month of December include those that came out in 2024 like Cuckoo, The Inheritance, Storm Crashers, Summer Camp, Flycatcher and more. Christmas favorite Elf arrived on the streamer at the end of November ahead of the holiday season, and Miracle on 34th Street (1994) started streaming on Hulu Dec. 1. Ben Stiller’s new film Nutcrackers also provides a more modern Christmas story.

Beloved classic films coming to Hulu this moth include Cheaper By the Dozen and Cheaper By the Dozen 2, Cast Away and all four Twilight films among others. Ridley Scott’s first Gladiator film will be available to stream starting Dec. 2.

“The Bad Guys” are back.

DreamWorks Animation’s 2022 hit, which embraced influences as diverse as Quentin Tarantino movies and Hayao Miyazaki’s work on “Sherlock Hound,” has got a brand-new sequel coming August 1, 2025. When “The Bad Guys” was released, it was notable for breaking from the “house style” of DreamWorks – the brightly imagined worlds of, say, “Shrek” or “Madagascar,” which could have individual personality, but largely played in the same sandbox – instead adopting a more graphic look that was startling and hugely appreciated. Last month saw streaming platforms settle into their annual cozy season with new fall TV shows and autumn film favorites. This December, Hulu and Disney+ are hunkering down with premieres for several animated TV series, a solid selection of holiday fare, and feel-good movies both old and new.

Disney+ will bring its classic characters together for “Mickey and the Very Many Christmases” as well as “Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade.” It will also premiere “The Simpsons Christmas Double Episode,” “Doctor Who: Joy to the World,” and “CMA Country Christmas” to honor the season. Top non-holiday picks include the return of “Marvel Animation’s What If…?” (kicking off December 22 with new episodes premiering daily for eight days), “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” and “Elton John: Never Too Late.”

Over at Hulu, the divisive new horror flick “Cuckoo” starring Hunter Schafer is set to stream alongside a robust catalogue of various other movies.

Hayao Miyazaki is considered one of the best animators of all time, and his work with Studio Ghibli includes some of the most beloved and acclaimed animated films in the history of the medium. The animator has helped change anime and animation so much that he refuses to permanently retire, choosing instead to deliver masterpiece after masterpiece and exploring different genres and tones, all while remaining true to his trademark themes and characters — determined heroines, magical realism, and anti-war messages. In a recent interview with Full Frontal, Koji Takeuchi shared his thoughts on the current state of anime events and the declining importance of animation creators within the context of prominent anime events such as AnimeJapan.

Expressing his reservations about Anime Japan, Takeuchi acknowledged its appeal to certain audience, but underscored the event’s primary focus on merchandising and crowd engagement, which often overshadowing the contributions of animators and directors.

“While Anime Japan serves its purpose for those who are looking forward to it, it primarily revolves around selling merchandise and attracting crowds for commercial purposes. The focus is on gathering voice actors to draw in audiences rather than directly benefiting the animation creators themselves.“

Takeuchi then addressed the diminishing presence of anime creators in such events, attributing it to a lack of platforms for meaningful discussions.

Sherlock Hound , a 1984 TV anime directed by Hayao Miyazaki and Kyosuke Mikuriya that reimagines Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous detective characters as anthropomorphic animals, is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Japan with a series of digitally remastered screenings of the two compilation films. Acclaimed anime director Hayao Miyazaki is planning on coming out of retirement to turn the work-in-progress computer generated short film “Boro the Caterpillar” into a feature-length animated film, Anime News Network reports. Miyazaki was reportedly not satisfied with the project as a short, and first proposed a feature-length version in August, noting that if the project took him five years to make, he would be 80 years old upon completion.

Exclusive: Sc Films boards 3D family-animation from Monty Python icon ahead of Afm.

Monty Python legend Terry Jones is set to direct family animation Sherlock Hound And The Case Of The Missing Santa Claus (3D), which Simon Crowe’s Sc Films has boarded ahead of the Afm.

Jones, who most recently directed Simon Pegg and Kate Beckinsale in UK comedy Absolutely Anything, is due to direct the feature with his producer-director son Bill Jones and his business partner Ben Timlett of UK production outfit Bill and Ben Productions, which is also producing.

Writers are Denis Higgins and Stephen Meier.

The Victorian-set story will feature canine sleuth Sherlock Hound on the hunt for Santa Claus after he goes missing.

Characters in the script include The Queen, a polar bear Father Christmas, Elves as penguins, Rudolph the Reindeer and evil feline Moriarty.
