According to a magazine interview with Daniel Roebuck, two months after the principal shooting had wrapped, Mark Tenser of distributor Crown International Pictures saw a rough cut of the movie and said "We need more tits in it!" So they filmed the locker room scene with the nude girls. Roebuck said all the girls they hired were nude models and porn actresses, so they didn't feel anywhere near as "weird" being naked as he felt being around them while they were naked.
Daniel Roebuck originally auditioned for the smaller role of Ralph. He asked writer/director David Oliver Pfeil if he could also read for the lead part of Rex and wound up getting that particular role instead.
Star Daniel Roebuck later wrote and directed a 2013 documentary titled Cavegirl, A Second Journey Back In Time, which looks back the filming of the movie with interviews of those who made it.
'Cavegirl' (1985), made and released about four years after 'Caveman' (1981), was not an authorized follow-up to 'Caveman' (1981), though there was a bit of a public perception in the global audience, that it was an official sequel, or perhaps a loose one, to 'Caveman' (1981).
Cynthia Thompson's only lead role.
