Written and directed by music video vet Paul Boyd, the horror-comedy Scared to Death will be hitting the genre film festival circuit soon, and we’ve got the exclusive trailer today.
Horror legends Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye lead the cast of the upcoming Scared to Death, which boasts creature creations by Legacy FX, the maestros best known for Godzilla x Kong, Avatar, The Shape of Water, and the upcoming Alien: Romulus.
In Scared to Death, “Jasper is a young opportunistic filmmaker yearning to climb the Hollywood ladder. While working as a lowly production assistant, he seizes his chance to be a “real” director when he suggests to his cantankerous boss that the crew and actors from their upcoming horror film attend a real séance in an old haunted house for research.

From one 1999 horror remake to another. After rewatching The Haunting with eyes that were both more critical and 25 years older, it got me thinking about the other remake that came out that year. One that was a remake of a far sillier movie and that was the first effort from a new studio, namely Dark Castle Entertainment. The original was from a far less dark castle in that of schlock and gimmick purveyor William Castle and it starred Vincent Price as a man offering strangers money to stay in an allegedly haunted house for a night. While The Haunting failed on multiple levels to improve with age, how does House on Haunted Hill (watch it Here) look after a quarter of a century? Does its cheesy yet graphic tone feel at home in the time of A24 and elevated horror or should it forfeit its 1 million dollar check and leave the cursed grounds forever.

A spinoff of the film franchise, “Freddy’s Nightmares” was an anthology series starring the original Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund. Airing from 1988 to 1990, each episode told a different story of a dark rooted and grim nature that takes place in this fictitious town on Elm Street, and now a brand new book will take us deeper into the series than ever before.
Death Cult Press has announced Welcome to Primetime from authors Geoff Turner, Henrique Couto and David Denover, up for pre-order now ahead of April 1, 2024 release.
“This collection features breakdowns of each episode in the series, interviews with the show’s creators and a selected history of the bizarre world of horror anthology television.”
You can pre-order three different book bundles from Death Cult Press now.
“Freddy’s Nightmares” picked up with where the films left off, with Krueger terrorizing the citizens of his hometown and taking his revenge out through their dreams.

Genre regulars Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye have just found their latest horror project to work on – and Shaye is a producer on this one as well! Deadline reports that Moseley and Shaye have signed on to appear in Scared to Death, which will be filming in Los Angeles next month.
Written and directed by Paul Boyd, Scared to Death will tell the story of a group of young filmmakers who enter an abandoned children’s orphanage in order to do research for a movie… and that’s their first mistake.
Scared to Death is coming to us from Mirror Films, and Shaye is producing the film alongside Eric Barrett.
Moseley and Shaye are joined in the cast by Olivier Paris (How I Met Your Father) and Daytime Emmy winner Victoria Konefal (Days of Our Lives).
Moseley and Shaye have both been showing up in horror movies since the 1980s.

Kaytranada recruited Pharrell Williams and Tinashe for his upcoming second LP, Bubba, out December 13th via RCA Records. The Canadian producer previewed the album — which follows his 2016 debut, 99.9% — with the funky new song “10%,” featuring Kali Uchis.
“You keep on takin’ from me, but where’s my 10 percent?” Uchis croons on the track over Kaytranada’s smooth groove, built on a thumping kick drum, pulsing bass and woozy synthesizer chords. “Don’t act like you didn’t know,” she adds on the bridge. “You’ve been watered down, baby/I gotta...

We’re in the home stretch of Masters of Horror Season One, and many of the genre’s biggest names have already been checked off the list: Carpenter, Landis, Hooper, Gordon, Dante, Coscarelli, Argento. That brings us to William Malone, probably the first Master who’s not already a household name among horror fans. And while his episode isn’t among the strongest of the first season, he does conjure up one of the series’ scariest images and embraces the surreal in a way the other installments have not. His is a worthy entry in the Masters of Horror run.

It just dawned on me today that I completely forgot about Parasomnia when I was doing my favorite films of the year. It really is tough to keep up on the many pictures I watch, and William Malone’s sleeper spectacle is one that I saw some time back. It is a blessing in disguise that I was absent-minded because it allows me to put his sleeping beauty fable in the spotlight. The irony is Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland made some many critics worst list, whereas Parasomnia is Alice in Acidland and will make you forget than expensive blunder. Here is the interview I did with William Malone prior to the Blu-ray/DVD release of the flick.
Jason Bene: You are a huge devotee of the 1920 silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. How much of that style and vision can be seen in Parasomnia?
