Since its debut on CBS on September 11, 1967, there was something distinctively special about "The Carol Burnett Show." This sketch comedy series spanned 279 episodes during its initial run, featuring acclaimed performances and comedic skits that were witty, sharp, and heavy on detail. Every actor who was a part of the show slipped into the shoes of a variety of characters that still remain memorable, including Carol Burnett's Charwoman (her signature role), and her parody of silent-film actress Nora Desmond. Some sketches were parodies of classic films such as "Gone With The Wind" or "Sunset Boulevard," while others mimicked soap opera structures or commercial spoofs.
By 1977, the popularity of the show had spiked, leading to some of the outstanding sketches being re-edited into standalone programs compiled in "Carol Burnett and Friends," which mashed the best skits into half-hour episodes. While the show relied on guest stars such as Jim Nabors and...

After 23 seasons in a red swivel chair, The Voice’s Blake Shelton took a load off Monday night to watch his last bunch of finale performances as a coach. He was sitting pretty, too, considering that the members his team, whittled down to just showman Noivas and country singer Grace West, were the likeliest to win the title. Did anyone from Team Kelly Clarkson, Chance the Rapper or Niall Horan deliver such a knockout that they might pull off an upset? Did Noivas and/or Grace stumble? Read on, and we’ll discuss.

We’ve lost another Hollywood legend. The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that cinematographer Bill Butler, best known for his work on the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic Jaws, has passed away at the age of 101. Butler died on Wednesday evening, according to the American Society of Cinematographers. He would have turned 102 on Friday – today.
Born on April 7, 1921 in Cripple Creek, Colorado, Butler earned his first entertainment industry credit by working as a camera operator on the 1959 film 1001 Arabian Nights. His first cinematographer credit came when his friend, director William Friedkin, hired him to shoot the 1962 TV movie The People vs. Paul Crump. He never attended film school, he just taught himself cinematography by watching movies and referring to the ASC manual. That approach definitely worked out for him. Over the next fifty-four years, he served as the cinematographer on eighty-four more projects, including Jack Nicholson’s Drive, He Said; The Bold Men,...

This year has been one long succession of bewildering events, so there was no way the 55th Academy of Country Music Awards weren’t going to feel oh-so-2020. Already rescheduled from its original April date due to Covid-19 and converted to a virtual, audience-free event in Nashville for the first-time ever, the ACMs leaned into the strange with another first: a tie between Thomas Rhett and Carrie Underwood for the night’s top prize, Entertainer of the Year.

On the same day she announced her new album Never Will, Ashley McBryde performed the LP’s lead single “One Night Standards” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Dressed in a sequined top that revealed her many tattoos and strumming a Fender Jazzmaster, the Arkansas native sang her straightforward ode to no-strings-attached hook-ups. There’s no metaphor here; instead, McBryde lays it all out: “It’s just a room key, you don’t have to lie to me/can’t you just use me like I’m using you?...

Ashley McBryde previews her hotly anticipated second album with a pulse-quickening new video for the dark revenge tune, “Martha Divine.” Backed by an unrelenting drumbeat that echoes the intense heartbeat of someone racing toward peril, the song’s storyline find the narrator in hot, angry pursuit of the title character, an auburn-haired Jezebel caught red-handed with the narrator’s daddy.
“I saw you sneakin’, I know what happened, I think it’s kinda funny you got caught only I ain’t laughin’,” McBryde sings ahead of the ominous, yet totally hooky chorus.

And fancy was her name! Reba McEntire is turning 64 years old today and we really can't believe it. The iconic country star is a music legend like that of Dolly Parton and we can't get enough of her and her songs. From "Fancy" and "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" to "Going Out Like That" and her latest single "Storm in a Shot Glass" fans have been treated to decades of hits and fun songs from the artist. While we could talk about her music for days, we've decided instead to focus on her wonderful friendship with Kelly Clarkson. In 2002, the two met when Clarkson asked McEntire to sing with her during the American Idol finale and more than a decade later the two are...

Dennis Quaid’s career is bustin’ out all over. The actor-turned-rocker demonstrated his range Saturday night, taking the stage at Los Angeles music club the Mint with his band The Sharks. The group delivered a raucous set that had the audience of more than 200 on its feet as Quaid danced through the crowd, belted like a Delta bluesman and briefly abandoned his acoustic guitar to tackle the keyboard with flying fingers, his denim-clad derriere, his chest and the heels of his cowboy boots. The over-the-the top physical display – a nod to Jerry Lee Lewis, who Quaid portrayed in 1989’s “Great Balls of Fire!” – was an apt metaphor for a guy whose debut album is “Out of the Box.”
Quaid’s unboxed activities include narrating iHeart Media’s new “Bear and a Banjo” podcast, announced Sunday, March 10, at SXSW. “I’m really excited about it, because podcasting is a new medium...

Only two weeks into Season 16, The Voice is taking a month off from its Tuesday episodes. It seemed on Monday night’s episode of “The Voice” that Blake Shelton might actually lose out on a country artist. All four coaches turned their chairs for Dexter Roberts and made passionate plays. But he, like virtually every other country singer in all of these seasons, selected Team Blake. Will Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine or John Legend ever be able to convince a country contender to choose them over Blake during the blind auditions?
Shelton is a six-time champion over the course of the past 15 seasons. Both he and three-time winner Levine have never missed a cycle of the Emmy-winning program. Clarkson has reigned for the past two seasons. Legend is a brand new addition.
All throughout this season, we will continue our tradition of updating live blogs while each episode is airing for the east and central time zones. Follow along below and keep refreshing during the two hours.

If you think country music is all about love and pickup trucks, then it's time to take a walk on the dark side of a genre where houses with abusive husbands are routinely blown up and you don't want to imagine what's lurking at the bottom of the river. From women who have had more than enough from their lying, cheating spouses to a boy named Sue hellbent on finding his scoundrel of a father, these are some of the best country songs about revenge. Some of these anthems are funny - like Travis Tritt offering his ex a quarter when she comes crawling back to him - but many of them will send a chill down your spine.
Just remember: dusty country roads hold plenty of secrets, and before you go seeking revenge, you might want to channel Tritt instead of Carrie Underwood, no matter how jaw-dropping her anthems about making men pay are.

Performances Dazzle in Tributes to Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, and George Strait on Acm Honors Show
Tears flow for Reba McEntire and Kelsea Ballerini. Maren Morris delivers a moving – and gender-bending – reading of a Glen Campbell classic. And Chris Janson runs on super octane performing one of rock’s quirkiest songs.
The Acm Honors awards show holds no suspense: The winners have already been announced. But the show, which airs Friday on CBS, is packed with emotional power and musical highs. The 11th annual show, which was taped Aug. 23 in Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, pays tribute to specific achievements in country music, and a stellar lineup has shown up for the celebration.

1.15 Home
As nonsense goes, Revolution appears to have copyrighted the term and any derivatives of it, because Home was just one long head scratching moment after another.
Miles is making a pain of himself, they tell Mr Psycho (Bass), but how will they find him to kill their nemesis? Bass declares that he'll make him come to them, solving the finding issue decisively! His cunning plan is the worst idea in the history of abysmal strategic planning, ever. You can't find a guy, who could be anywhere in about twenty percent of the entire landmass of the USA, so you send a minion to give him a message. How did Bass know that he'd find him, and not just...

1.14 The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia
It's a great title, The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia, or it might have been had the lights been on in the first place. That said, I did notice a change this week, with Revolution moving from the mostly stupid to the generally boring.
What the writers of Revolution are entirely rubbish at doing is adding a plot element in that doesn't have an obvious use. That's well demonstrated by the appearance of the knife early in this one, where you know once Miles picks it up, and announces it's his, that it will end up killing someone before we're done. Once the story is told a few minutes...

While Revolution’s entire run to date has focused on the Monroe Republic, details have indicated that the collapse of the government following the loss of power led to numerous rogue factions taking control of various parts of the former United States, with Monroe and Miles only getting one part of it. The prospect of seeing how the other areas were ruled, and how the people in other parts of the country had coped with the loss of power, has thus been a very intriguing one, and it is this idea that the show explores this week, in an episode that opens up some intriguing new avenues for the show to explore.

In "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia," Miles brought Nora, Charlie and his excess baggage to The Georgia Federation.
The Georgia Federation is already an interesting development - and its President, Kelly, is the complete opposite of Monroe. The two states feel quite different: Monroe brought his republic together, making something out of nothing but chaos. Since then, though, he’s just gotten crazier as his power grew.
Kelly is completely opposite of Monroe in demeanor and leadership. While it could be a front, from prosperity alone Georgia is far superior to the Republic in every way except possessing power. They have aid from England, steam power, ships and plenty of soldiers. On face value alone, Kelly completely outshines Monroe. She cares for her people and makes sure they are evacuated away from Monroe’s nuke threat.
Contrast this with Monroe who only consolidated power for himself, only...

After preempting a new episode of "Revolution" last night to air a NBC News special on the Boston Marathon attacks, NBC has decided to move the show's season finale to June.
The preempted episode of "Revolution" will air next Monday in the show's regular 10 p.m. Et timeslot, causing a ripple effect that will push the Season 1 finale from its scheduled airdate of May 27 to one week later on June 3.
The network didn't have many options for re-scheduling the preempted episode because "Revolution" was scheduled to air originals every week until the finale. NBC would've had to either double up on episodes one Monday night (difficult with "The Voice" airing two hours on Mondays), or air the show on another night and risk viewer confusion and no "Voice" lead-in.

The cause of the blackout, it’s an answer we’ve all been waiting for since Revolution’s premiere - and "The Song Remains the Same" provided it.
The Virus Flynn unleashed on the terrorist encampment is to blame, as these tiny, self-replicating devices float in the air and only absorb electricity. It’s slightly disconcerting that an answer of such magnitude wasn’t treated with any kind of grandeur, but the reveal was also indicative of Revolution as a series: instead of posing supposed answers that are really just masked questions, actual answers are given. It’s a refreshing take on the usual genre staples.
It turns out the biggest story was just how much everyone hates Neville. It’s, chilling just how far Tom is willing to go to save his own hide. He’s okay using Jason’s feelings toward his mother against him and it’s...

While the ongoing leitmotif of Fire and Ice featured heavily in the Season Two finale of Game of Thrones, the real theme of the episode may well have been "lowered expectations". Whether it was Tyrion's coming to after saving King's Landing to find that he'd been stripped of his title, Daenerys's securing the fortune of Qarth only to find that there Is no fortune of Qarth and realize that after all that she's really more of a stay-at-home dragon mom, really, or Theon's being c*ck-blocked by his own army, the denoument to last week's excellent big battle scene seemed determined to readjust expectations across the board.

Dennis Quaid started out with a handful of forgettable roles (the smarmy 'Seniors,' anyone?) and then greatly impressed in a supporting role in Peter Yates' 'Breaking Away' in 1979.
Randy and Dennis Quaid appeared together in Walter Hill's 'The Long Riders,' but Dennis soon graduated to lead roles. He's a ball of infectious charm in 'The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,' which was intended to showcase Kristy McNichol. As her no good brother, Quaid...

I'm gonna say it upfront: I didn't like this week's episode. After the heights of the Madonna episode and last week's heart-string-tugging tearjerker, this week was a real let down. I wasn't crazy about the music selections and the story was weak. But hey, at least that means plenty of shots!
Hope you've got your drinking pants on. You're gonna need 'em.
We start off with the Glee kids cracking up while watching a video on Kurt's laptop. It's a video of Sue dancing to "Physical" by Olivia Newton-John. Kurt apparently stole it from Sue's locked filing cabinet when she sent him to get her hormone replacement injections during Cheerios practice. Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first shot in the very first scene of the episode. Sue Sylvester would never leave something so incriminating where it could be found so easily.
