The Busan film festival’s Asian project market will be held online this year on Oct. 12-14. Some 22 projects from around Asia will vie for production funds during the market.

These include “Love Life,” from Japanese filmmaker Koji Fukada who won the Un Certain Regard jury prize at Cannes in 2016 for “Harmonium,” and “A Burning Question” from Bangladesh’s Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, who closed Busan in 2012 with “Television.”

Other selections include “Tick It” from Vietnamese director Tran Thanh Huy, who won Busan’s New Currents award in 2019 winner for “Rom,” and “A River in the Mirror,” by Tashi Gyeltshen, Fipresci International Critics’ Award 2018 winner for “The Red Phallus.”

From the Philippines, Sheron Dayoc, winner of Busan’s Mecenat Award in 2016 with “The Crescent Rising,” will participate in the market with “6th Finger.” From Kazakhstan, Elzat Eskendir, who won Busan’s Sonje Award in the same year for “Off-season,” will present “Abel.

The Asian Project Market, the biggest investment and co-production market in Asia, is to shift online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The industry platform, which takes place during the Busan International Film Festival (Biff), will run as a virtual event from October 12 to 14 alongside the Asian Contents and Film Market, which previously announced it would run as a hybrid event.

This year will feature 22 projects, which is down on the 29 titles presented in both 2018 and 2019.

If you didn’t like the first episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks, the second episode is not here to walk anything back. Structurally and tonally, “Envoys,” is actually so similar to “Second Contact,” that there’s an argument to be made that it should have either aired third or as part of a two-episode debut night for the season premiere. Lower Decks is poised to tell several different types of Trek stories. That said, “Envoys” mostly settles on familiar territory: The concept that some aliens are not exactly what they seem.

In 22 years with Film Finances Australasia, Anni Browning experienced numerous highs and faced a few challenges as the cinema industry ebbed and flowed.

Film Finances bonded a lot of films budgeted at $1 million- $1.5 million and one-off feature docs costing as little as $100,000- $200,000.

One thing which has not remained constant is the insurance bond premium. When she started it was as high as 6 per cent of the budget.

After last week’s twisted two-immunity, two-tribal council double elimination, we’re down to the Top 8 on “Survivor: Ghost Island.” Because there’s an even split of four men and four women, we’re dividing this week’s power rankings up by gender. On top for the men are Domenick Abbate and Wendell Holland, allies from the very beginning working in secret with Laurel Johnson and Donathan Hurley, but who may be headed toward a division in their ranks.

When I was younger I was a big James Herbert fan, so watching The Survivor was something I just had to do. Confusing and slow, I’ll admit I was not ready for what I found with the film, but now with its new release on Blu-ray, is it about time to give the film another chance?

When a 747 crash lands in a Sydney suburb the only other survivor is David Keller (Robert Powell). Unable to remember what happened to make the plane crash, he starts his own investigation into what happened. With the help of local psychic Hobbs (Jenny Agutter) he discovers not only why the plane crashed, but also why some of the dead refuse to be at peace.

For the second week of January, horror and sci-fi fans have another relatively quiet week of home entertainment releases to look forward to this Tuesday. Scream Factory has given the underrated thriller Dead of Winter an HD overhaul on their upcoming Blu-ray, and Severin Films is resurrecting the cult classic The Survivor with a brand new 2K transfer.

Other releases for January 10th include Under the Shadow, B.C. Butcher, The Harrow, The Summoning, and the double feature Blu-ray of Crystal Lake Memories and Never Sleep Again.

Adelaide-raised Xavier Samuel is returning home to star in South Australian feature Bad Blood, a suspense thriller to be directed by David Pulbrook (Last Dance) about a couple's long weekend away that turns sinister.

Samuel will star alongside Morgan Griffin (San Andreas, Unbroken) in his first Sa-shot film since his debut film, 2006's 2:37 (the film which also provided an early breakout role for Teresa Palmer).

Bad Blood will be produced by Wolf Creek's David Lightfoot alongside Antony I. Ginnane, with filming in the Adelaide Hills and at Adelaide Studios to begin June 6 and run for three weeks.

I’m really excited about Warcraft, but I really haven’t been a big fan of the marketing behind the film. It’s like they don’t know how to sell this movie to audiences. Producer Antony I. Ginnane plans to be staying busy on the remake scene. He was the man behind Patrick and its remake Patrick: Evil Awakens, and now he's digging up two more of his films, The Survivor and Thirst to get the redux treatment.

The news comes via Screen Daily. “Genre – particularly thrillers, sci-fi and action – never really dates,” said Ginnane. “Sales agents and international buyers like something that has been previously tested, has cult resonance and is made for a price. In some cases we are selling to the children of the guys who bought the originals.”

Rod Hardy-directed 1979's Thirst. The descendant of Elizabeth Bathory is abducted by a cult of self-proclaimed supermen who achieve this state of superiority by drinking from the "blood cows" (read: people) kept at the "dairy farm", and they try to get her to join them.

David Hemmings directed the 1981 flick, The Survivor.

​Producer Antony I. Ginnane is out to remake both Thirst and The Survivor, reports Screen Daily. Ginnane produced both of the original films in '79 and '81 respectively and is also known for shepherding Patrick and its recent redo Patrick: Evil Awakens. Thirst concerns a descendant of Elizabeth Bathory who tries to escape a cult that wants to induct her into their vampire master race.

Silva is best known for editing influential magazine The Horror Show, which ran from 1982-1991 . Silva won a World Fantasy Award in 1988 in the special, non-professional category for his work on the magazine. He also edited anthologies, including Post Mortem: New Tales of Ghostly Horror (1989) and Dead End: City Limits (1991), both with Paul F. Olson, as well as books collecting the best work from The Horror Show. From 1997-2002 he and Olson co-edited industry newsletter Hellnotes, for horror professionals and fans. In 2004, the newsletter was revived as a website.

Silva began publishing short fiction in 1981, and The Calling (1990) won a Bram Stoker Award. Several of his other stories were Stoker finalists, and collection Through Shattered Glass (2001) won an International Horror Guild Award...

When James Herbert published his first novel, The Rats (1974), at the age of 30, it was an immediate bestseller. Copies of the book – produced cheaply in paperback with a vicious-looking rodent on the cover, its jaws open and eyes bloodshot – flew off the shelves, the initial print run of 100,000 selling out in three weeks. Behind its cover star, the title was printed in bold, red type. Edition after edition came out and changes were subtly made.
