DC Comics ass-backwards anti-hero 'Bizarro' waits patiently on the sidelines for his full-length live-action moment in the spotlight:
'Bizarro' was created by writer Otto Binder and illustrator George Papp as a 'mirror image' of Superman debuting in "Superboy" #68 (1958).
Since then, Bizarro has appeared as an antagonist to Superman.
His origins started with a scientist demonstrating a newly invented 'duplicating ray' to Superboy...
...but an accident causes the ray to duplicate the teen hero, as a flawed imitation with chalky white skin and childlike erratic behavior.
Bizarro is depicted as having all the abilities of Superman...
...although in some incarnations several of these traits have been reversed.
These powers include 'freeze vision' instead of 'heat vision', 'flame breath' instead of 'freeze breath', 'vacuum breath' instead of 'super breath', etc.
A stand-alone "Bizarro" feature film is being developed by writers Dean Parisot and Robert Gordon.

In what can only be described as saddening news, legendary actor Ron Ely has passed away at the age of 86. The announcement came from his daughter Kirsten Casale Ely, who told The Associated Press that he died on September 29 at his home in Los Alamos, California.
Ely was best known for portraying Tarzan in the NBC TV series, which ran for three seasons between 1966 and 1968. A time when action-packed TV shows based on classic characters were big commodities for network television (See: Batman), Tarzan maintained many of the elements that were popular with the source material, but it is particularly notable for not featuring Jane. It's also notable for the fact that Ely did the majority of his own stunts (and suffered some injuries as a result of that).

Ron Ely, best known for his starring role as Tarzan in the 1960s NBC television series Tarzan, has died, his daughter Kirsten confirmed to TMZ, telling the outlet her father passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on September 29. He was 86.
His daughter shared an emotional tribute to her father on Instagram.
“The world has lost one of the greatest men it has ever known – and I have lost my dad,” Kirsten wrote.
“My father was someone that people called a hero. He was an actor, writer, coach, mentor, family man and leader. He created a powerful wave of positive influence wherever he went. The impact he had on others is something that I have never witnessed in any other person – there was something truly magical about him. This is how the world knew him.
“I knew him as my dad – and what a heaven sent honor that has been.

Ron Ely, the hunky and handsome Texas native who portrayed the Lord of the Jungle on the first Tarzan series for television, has died, his daughter Kirsten told Fox News Digital. He was 86.
He died Sept. 29 at the home of one of his daughters near Santa Barbara, The New York Times reported.
Ely also hosted the Miss America pageant in 1980 and 1981, stepping in for longtime emcee Bert Parks, and presided over a syndicated game show called Face the Music around that time.
The 6-foot-4, blue-eyed Ely had appeared opposite Clint Walker in The Night of the Grizzly and with Ursula Andress in Once Before I Die in films released in 1966 when he was hired to don the loincloth in a new NBC series executive produced by Sy Weintraub.

Superman’s canine best friend will be joining him onscreen next year.
Krypto the Superdog will appear in James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman,” the director confirmed on social media Tuesday. He made the announcement in honor of October being Adopt a Shelter Dog month.
“Krypto arrives on screens in Superman this summer,” Gunn wrote. “Krypto was inspired by our dog Ozu, who we adopted shortly after I started writing Superman. Ozu, who came from a hoarding situation in a backyard with 60 other dogs & never knew human beings, was problematic to say the least. He immediately came in & destroyed our home, our shoes, our furniture – he even ate my laptop. It took a long time before he would even let us touch him. I remember thinking, ‘Gosh, how difficult would life be if Ozu had superpowers?’ – and thus Krypto came into the script & changed the shape of the story as Ozu was changing my life.

There have been a slew of cartoons to come out on Cartoon Network and other networks that featured animated shows that were killed for no apparent reason. Despite smooth productions, great storylines, and even sizable viewership, shows like Young Justice, Generator Rex, ThunderCats, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series just did not have what it takes to keep them on air.
Generator Rex || Credit: WB
While these shows had a lot of good storylines and great viewership behind them, action cartoons, especially the likes of Generator Rex and Ben 10, actually need one pillar to work out more than anything else: merchandise. The products that sustained these shows were usually toys, the sales of which would determine whether the investment behind the shows that were supposed to sell them was even worth it.

The Justice League. The Teen Titans. Heck, even the Outsiders. Most comic readers know these superhero teams from DC Comics, and can probably name at least a few key members, if not favorite stories.
But for a while in the 1980s, one team topped them all, rivaling even Chris Claremont’s X-Men run for comic shop supremacy: Legion of Super-Heroes won over readers with its futuristic space opera and its cast of unique characters.
The basic premise of the Legion of Super-Heroes is simple. 1000 years in the future, a group of superpowered teens take inspiration from Superboy and become heroes, most using powers they gained from their native planets. Like the best Superman stories, Legion tales tend to be optimistic and hopeful, certain that humanity can overcome its problems and work toward a better tomorrow.
But actually reading the Legion can be a bit daunting. Because of the future setting,...

Take a seat my horror hounds, the Leprechaun is making rounds. From grassy knolls and Irish springs- to the streets on a hunt for bling. Okay, I admit that was pretty bad- but in my defense, I haven’t been able to stop talking in rhyme since I watched the year 2000’s Leprechaun in the Hood (watch it Here) which not only is a completely outside of the box film for the franchise, it also, somehow, fits right in with it. The fifth movie in the Leprechaun series, In the Hood takes the wise-cracking and menacing Leprechaun as he once again schemes and murders his way to retrieving his beloved pot of gold. Or in this case- his golden flute.
Fans of this franchise all have our own ranking when it comes to which Leprechaun films are too cheesy, which are not cheesy enough, and which ones are just right.

Zack Snyder made fans very happy when he announced that he is very much interested in finishing his Justice League trilogy. After his tumultuous experience with the 2017 film and the long-overdue Snyder Cut, the filmmaker is now ready to tackle the matter.
Justice League (2017)
After the release of his Netflix original project Rebel Moon, Snyder has now a way to turn his plan to continue the Justice League story, albeit with slight differences in format and storyline. As Warner Bros is very strict with the rights of DC characters, the director would have to be very creative.

In the world of superheroes and their adversaries, few characters stand as iconic as Superman and his arch-nemesis, Lex Luthor. However, Tim Daly, who voiced Kal-El in Bruce Timm’s Superman: The Animated Series has shared a special affinity for another DC supervillain, who is often described as an anti-hero and a dark reflection of the Kryptonian superhero, Bizarro.
Superman: The Animated Series
He has made recurring appearances in the DC Animated Universe and has been voiced by numerous actors over the years. Daly also gave his voice to the character in The Animated Series, which offered him an insight into the character. The 67-year-old actor expressed empathy towards the villain, as he fondly recalled his time portraying the complex character.
Tim Daly Shared His Experience Working With Bizarro
Introduced in Superboy #68, Bizarro has been frequently seen as an antagonist clashing with Superman and has taken on the role of an anti-hero as well.

There are very few animated shows that have gained a cult following to the level of DC’s Young Justice and it is not hard to see why, considering just how influential the four seasons of the show have been, despite being canceled a couple of times.

We all love a good superhero origin story. Sure, it’s great to see Spider-Man swing from buildings, but it’s what Uncle Ben tells a young Peter Parker that touches us all. We all love seeing Batman kick the Joker’s teeth in, but we are all fascinated by that tragic night in Crime Alley. So it’s no surprise that the first and greatest superhero of all time should have a TV show about what defines him. There is a reason why Clark Kent is the best of us. While Batman may be the ultimate example of physical perfection, Superman is the pinnacle of the goodness of humanity. But fans have always debated: is Superman Clark Kent, or is Clark Kent just a disguise? I have always argued Superman is just a cape. Clark is the hero who wears it. Smallville is the case for my belief in...

As you’d expect, the internet went nuts recently with the news that James Gunn had found his Superman and Lois in David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. Some of the comments were from people upset that Henry Cavill wouldn’t be returning to the role after his brief cameo in Black Adam, and others were grinding their personal axes, but most seemed pretty positive about the casting.
But if you pay attention, you’d notice a theme in the responses, best captured in this Reddit post:

After six months of searching, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office confirmed today that the human remains found earlier this week by hikers were, indeed, those of actor Julian Sands. He had been missing since mid-January.
The statement (read it below) says his cause of death is still pending, but Sands was an experienced hiker who loved the outdoors.
The positive identification comes less than a week after Sands’ family issued their first statement on the matter, saying they are “deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.”
Of the actor himself — known for his roles in The Killing Fields, A Room with a View, Leaving Las Vegas, Warlock, Arachnophobia, Boxing Helena, 24, Smallville and Banshee — the family statement said, “We continue to hold Julian in our hearts, with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts,...

Audiences often groan at having to sit through yet another superhero origin story, especially one that's already so embedded in pop culture that even people who've never read a comic book in their lives could describe it. The CW's "Smallville," which takes a look at the formative years of Clark Kent before he became Superman, could've fallen into the trap of repeating so many of the same story elements that we're all so familiar with. And yet, the series -- which launched in 2001 and ended in 2011 -- managed to wring a lot of great material out of Clark's early days and, for the most part, maintain its high quality over the course of 10 seasons.
Part of what made "Smallville" work so well was its creators' ability to fuse the teen drama that made the CW so popular with young people during the network's heyday with thrilling superheroics and action set pieces.

Science fiction TV shows have a shorter shelf life than cryptocurrencies and social media influencers. What gives? It's not that complicated: big budgets + low ratings = cancellation. Hey, those space-age sets and costumes, alien makeup, and CGI aren't cheap. Meanwhile, passionate fans may sign petitions by the thousands, but ratings are what matters, and those fanbases are too small to impress execs trying to court advertisers.
Given the economics of television, it's not shocking TV studios routinely dump pricey sci-fi shows in favor of the newest "Big City Cop Show" procedural. To be honest, it's surprising sci-fi shows get made at all. Yep, it sucks, but that's show business. While it's easy to explain why most sci-fi TV shows get canceled, the reasons for some cancellations are downright baffling. These include sci-fi shows that were dropped despite decent ratings, canned with fully completed seasons, or even dumped after inspiring hunger strikes!

Exclusive: Francis Lawrence is set to direct the feature take of Kevin J. Anderson and Steven L. Sears’ Stalag-X following New Republic Pictures winning the graphic novel’s rights.
New Republic Founder Brian Oliver and President Bradley Fischer are producing alongside about:blank’s Lawrence and Cameron MacConomy. Joy Wilkinson will adapt the IP.
Stalag-x tells the story of a reclusive human soldier imprisoned in an alien Pow camp on a harsh distant planet in the midst of a decade-long interstellar conflict. Believing that his mind holds the key to turning the tide in the war, the alien Krael force him to endure mind-bending experiments that rip into the deepest recesses of his traumatic memories, which they hope will yield an answer to the question: what is human?

This article contains Superman & Lois episode 1 spoilers. We have a spoiler free review here.
Superman & Lois episode 1 does it all! Callbacks to the comics that go all the way back to 1938! A visual reference to the character’s very first onscreen appearance! Random and obscure nods to comics from the ’90s! Oh, and a whole bunch of love for the granddaddy of all superhero movies, 1978’s Superman: The Movie.
Basically, if you’re a Superman fan, the first episode of Superman & Lois is like a love letter to nearly every era of the comics. Here’s everything we spotted…
The Origin Story The fact that Kal-El is depicted as being “born” on Earth when the rocket opens seems to be something taken from both John Byrne’s Man of Steel origin story, as well as Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel film. Essentially, these versions of the...

Based on the enduring popularity of the Superman mythos, it seems surprising that Hollywood hasn’t tried to monetize the Man of Steel’s extended family more often on the big screen. Of course, a lot of that probably has to do with the fact that when they attempted to in 1984 with Supergirl, the end result was a terrible movie that bombed at the box office.
The CW’s hit show has proven that Kal-El’s extended Kryptonian family have the potential to headline their own successful projects, but so far, Warner Bros. have steadfastly made Superman their sole focus on the big screen. However, with the Dceu set for a massive expansion via the multiverse and an influx of HBO Max exclusives, there’s going to be plenty of room for more Super-people to play a part, especially when there’s still no sign of Henry Cavill’s Big...

Scott Snyder and James Tynion IV had a chance to chat up their big current projects as part of Metaverse, this year’s pandemic margarine to New York Comic Con’s butter, and there were some surprising reveals to be had. Most surprising? Snyder spoiled the ending of Dark Nights: Death Metal.
Sort of.
Death Metal is many things. It is primarily the capstone to Snyder’s decade driving the DC line, first as writer of New 52 Batman with Greg Capullo, then on All-Star Batman and the Dark Nights: Metal/Justice League/Death Metal Crisis triptych. It’s the culmination of his partnership with Capullo, whose collaboration and friendship with Snyder have forever changed Scott’s storytelling ambitions. And, as Snyder relayed to new DC Eic Marie Javins and Tynion in the panel, it’s a way to put DC’s history back.

DC’s streaming comics, movie and TV show streaming service is evolving in January. The app currently known as DC Universe will be changing to DC Universe Infinite, a comic book-focused streaming service.
The plan is for the updated streaming service to have 24,000 comics available at launch, a roughly 10% increase on the current library. Comics and original graphic novels will be available through Dcu Infinite within six months of publication, much faster than the current one year lag time. And DC’s successful digital-first series like Injustice: Year Zero and Batman: Gotham Knights will be available sooner. There’s also a plan for exclusive content created just for Dcu Infinite.
“Our fans love the platform’s robust library of comic books and, with the transformation, we will not disappoint,” said DC Publisher and Chief Creative Officer Jim Lee. “I’m excited to share that not only will DC Universe Infinite...

It appears that the DC Universe experiment is coming to an end. Launched in 2018 with the noble intention of providing fans with a one stop resource for comics, message boards, and new original programming, the streaming service and comics library has struggled almost out of the gate. Despite producing a succession of critically acclaimed live action and animated original shows, confidence in DC Universe as its own entity never seemed terribly high.
Its flagship live action show, Titans, was met with middling reviews. The next on its slate, Swamp Thing, fared better critically but was canceled and saw its episode count slashed before the first episode even aired (it will now see a second life as re-runs as part of the CW’s Covid-ravaged fall TV schedule). But DC Universe hit its stride creatively with superb animated series like Young Justice: Outsiders and the wildly inventive and hilarious Harley Quinn,...

Dennis “Denny” O’Neil, best known for writing and editing Batman comic books, died on June 11 of natural causes. He was 81.
O’Neil wrote “Batman,” “Detective Comics” and “Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight” in addition to serving as an editor for DC’s Batman-related comic books from 1986 until 2000. Along with editor Julius Schwartz and artist Neal Adams, O’Neil helped to bring Batman back to his original, more ominous persona after the 1960s “Batman” TV series had a campier take on the superhero.
DC Comics publisher Jim Lee remembered him on Twitter as his “favorite Green Lantern writer to date.” Lee continued, “Denny was one of the earliest writers whose work and focus on social issues pushed comics to wider respectability & acceptance as an artform. Through his work & mentorship, he influenced generations of writers & artists.”

Superman & Lois has officially found its Lana Lang in Emmanuelle Chriqui.
The CW’s developing Supergirl spinoff, Superman & Lois, has cast Canadian actress Chriqui as a series regular, set to play the classic Superman comic book presence and frequent live-action-adapted character for the small screen Arrowverse shows, reports Deadline. The main cast role will see her join Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch, who co-star as the titular couple.
Chriqui will portray a version of the character, named Lana Lang-Cushing, who’s described as “the loan officer at Smallville Bank who stayed in Smallville when others left for something bigger and brighter. Lana reestablishes her friendship with her old friend, Clark Kent, during one of the most difficult periods in her life.”

The success of Joker seems to have lit a fire under Warner Bros. as they’re busy exploring all sorts of interesting takes on DC heroes. Over the last few days, we’ve heard that they’d like to make an adaptation of Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman starring Jon Hamm, a movie set on Krypton about Superman’s family and are proceeding with a Joker sequel.
Now, we’ve gotten word from our sources – the same ones who told us Robert Pattinson had beaten out Nicholas Hoult for the role of Batman, and that Black Mask will be gay in Birds of Prey – that they’re exploring the prospect of making a Superboy movie based on the Conner Kent version of the character introduced in 1993’s The Return of Superman arc.
Said film will apparently be part of the ‘new’ Dceu, which will debut with The Batman and continue in Supergirl.

Titans Season 2 Episode 6
With nary a mention of him since his tease at the end of season one, Conner Kent swoops into Titans with a great episode that’s charming, sweet, and exciting for what it sets up for the series. Oh, and Krypto!
Picking up after the stinger scene from last season’s finale, “Conner” has a bare-assed Lex Luthor/Superman clone busting himself, and Krypto the Super-Dog out of Luthor’s Cadmus Labs. What follows is a road-trip of self-discovery as the young naïve boy learns his powers, taps into his anger, and hopefully develop into a good person.
I really commend Joshua Orpin on his performance as Conner. Playing a full-grown adult newborn is a minefield because it tiptoes along the lines of some very well-tread tropes.

Believe it or not, we’ll finally get to meet Conner Kent Aka Superboy in the appropriately titled “Conner.” If you’ll recall, his bare ass was teased in the post-credits scene following the first season finale. But now, we’ll get to see actor Joshua Orpin suiting up as the iconic Kon-El.
In addition to this new image taken from the episode in question, so too can a synopsis be found below:
“Conner Kent and Krypto escape from Cadmus Labs. His search for the truth about his past leads him to Lionel Luthor and genetic scientist Dr. Eve Watson.”

The Doomsday Saga sprawled across the four monthly Superman titles for the better part of a year, clearly too long to successfully adapt as part of the DC Animated Universe series of films. When The Death of Superman was announced, everyone knew a second film would follow and sure enough, viewers were treated to The Reign of the Superman. The 1992-93 storyline was streamlined and revised to be fit into the animated continuity, so characters who weren’t around at the time, are here now.
Warner Home Entertainment has edited the two films together into a 2:46 and has released it as The Death and Return of Superman released in a variety of formats including the nifty 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition Gift Set. The 4K gift set comes with Superman: Doomsday as a bonus 4K disc.
As noted in reviews of the two films, it does a reasonable, but not perfect,...

When it was first revealed that Esai Morales would be playing Deathstroke on Titans, some fans were probably saddened because it likely meant that we’d seen the last of Manu Bennett’s iteration of the character over on Arrow. But then again, it’s pretty difficult to produce a series featuring this particular super group without including the man who’s arguably their greatest nemesis, and there was no way to do that without another actor.
So, even though we’re only a few episodes deep into season 2, Morales has proven worthy of adding to Deathstroke’s legacy. What’s more is that he satisfies those out there who prefer Slade Wilson as being the white-haired guy who’s seen his share of battle. His performances have been just as nuanced as those of Bennett’s, not to mention he comes off as being just as intimidating and methodical.

Titans showrunner Greg Walker discusses Titans season 2, moving the action to San Francisco, and yes the very good boy Krypto.
As Jason Todd aptly put it, Titans are back, bitches. Following a season 2 premiere that wrapped up the Rachel/Trigon storyline, the season seemed to truly begin last week. The story skipped ahead three months, introducing a new direction for the show where Dick Grayson is training his young recruits, Donna and Kory are super-sleuthing, and Hank and Dawn are trying out the quiet life on a Wyoming ranch.
“We launched into a new chapter of Titans 2.0,” says Greg Walker, showrunner for the DC Universe streaming series. But whatever relative peace our heroes might have hoped for faded quickly as specters from Titans' past began to emerge. And this, said Walker, is where season 2 will continue, which becomes especially evident in this week’s episode, “Ghosts.”

What a difference a year makes.
Titans Season 2 Episode 1 is not the season premiere the fans deserved. It felt like more of an epilogue of Titans Season 1 than a jumping-off point for Titans Season 2.
From the get-go, we were thrown into boring scenes that dragged on for dear life as Trigon tried to turn every one to the dark side in the name of breaking his daughter's heart.
I appreciate the need to flesh out Trigon, but what was the point if Rachel sent him away that quickly?!
Instead of going through the various nightmares of the team, there should have been a more significant battle between the father and daughter because it was ridiculous how quickly that was over.
Maybe it was to show us just how powerful Rachel is now, but there should have been higher stakes -- perhaps even the death of one of the lead characters.

When “Titans” returns for its second season on Friday, the DC Universe series will add a slew of characters, none bigger than Batman himself. But the version who “Game of Thrones” alum Iain Glen will portray will exclusively focus on the Bruce Wayne side of Gotham City’s most famous vigilante’s double life.
“He’s still Batman,” showrunner Greg Walker told TheWrap. “We just don’t see him with the cape and cowl running around, and the bat signal.”
Batman is Warner Bros.’ most lucrative DC Comics character, one in which the company has been fiercely protective. The character has already toplined two separate film franchises, with Robert Pattinson set to lead a third, beginning in 2021 with Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” Glen’s version of Wayne is just one of the ways that DC Comics-based TV shows are incorporating as much of Batman as they can into their worlds,...
