Writer/director Rolf de Heer has said of the production of the movie: "Eight years, four of them full-time, three of those unpaid and one of them very badly paid - one dead film."
This film is considered an "Ozploitation" (Australian exploitation) picture.
The film was distributed theatrically in the USA in 1990 with a limited cinema release under the title of 'Encounter at Raven's Gate' - the name being similar but for one word to its original title of 'Incident at Raven's Gate'.
Principal photography on this picture ran for about five weeks.
