Hungary's official submission to the 1989's Academy Awards for the Best Foreign Language Film category.
István Szabó and Klaus Maria Brandauer also collaborated in Mephisto (1981) and Colonel Redl (1985), which to some form a trilogy of films. All three films were Oscar nominated in the Best Foreign Language Film category, with Mephisto (1981) being an Oscar winning film that launched Brandauer and Szabó's careers in Hollywood.
