You have three seconds to name Wesley Snipes’ best ‘90s action movie: Go! As the numbers tally, only six options remain: New Jack City, Passenger 57, Boiling Point, Rising Sun, Demolition Man, and Blade. If we’re talking crime-action, New Jack City reigns supreme. Horror-Action? Blade all damn day. Sci-Fi Action? Demolition Man is too silly to miss. But if we’re simply counting hyper-violent, hard-boiled action fare – it’s hard to elevate above Passenger 57 – a lean, mean, bullet-laced blitzkrieg of thrilling throwback action made in the wake of Die Hard. In the film, Snipes portrays John Cutter, a badass airport security expert who finds himself in a hijacked airliner overrun by Charles “The Rane of Terror” Rane and his undercover henchmen.
Despite overtly adopting the Die Hard formula of isolating a grumpy, charismatic hero in a single location and pitting them against a troupe of gun-toting terrorists, Passenger 57...

As the situation comedy disappears from broadcast television, we might be losing more than simply 23 minutes of laughs surrounded by Progressive commercials. Over the past 50 years, the sitcom has been a surefire cannon from which to launch unknown comic actors onto the A-list.
Here are 7 sitcoms that turned anonymous comedians into the biggest stars in the world…
1 Mork & Mindy
Robin Williams was a 1970s club comic with a growing reputation as an improvisational genius. A guest turn on Happy Days — producer Garry Marshall’s kid was into Star Wars so Marshall ordered writers to invent a funny alien — launched a spin-off series that turned Williams into a star practically overnight. Also up for the Happy Days alien cameo? A young Richard Lewis.
2 Bosom Buddies
Want a idiotic premise for a sitcom? How about two guys who decide to pose as women so they can get a permanent room in an affordable women-only hotel.

"Leprechaun" isn't a very good movie, but it did spawn an entire horror franchise, so that has to count for something. In addition to starring Warwick Davis as the titular demonic figure, the first "Leprechaun" film is perhaps best known for starring a pre-"Friends" Jennifer Aniston, playing one of the unlucky humans who goes up against Davis' horror movie villain. It was Aniston's second film role — her first being an uncredited background performance in the infamous "E.T." knock-off "Mac and Me." "Leprechaun" arrived in 1993, and a year later, "Friends" would help make Aniston a star. But before that, she was just a working actor looking for her big break. Lots of actors get their start in horror movies, so there's surely no shame in Aniston facing off against a killer leprechaun.
As it turns out, the studio that made "Leprechaun" — Trimark Pictures — thought Aniston was perfect for the final girl role they needed,...

For as long as horror movies have existed, there have been carny-like marketing campaigns boasting audience members fainting, vomiting, running out of theaters in terror, and in some of the most extreme cases, having a heart attack. Films like "Psycho," "The Exorcist," and even 2023's "Talk To Me" have all become modern urban legends with the reported reactions from fans, but few films come close to the reputation of "Antrum." The Canuxploitation film from David Amito and Michael Laicini is two films in one: a documentary about "Antrum," a lost film from the 1970s that has been connected with over 85 deaths, and the remaining footage from the only known print of the film. Before the film plays, a warning covers the screen.

Inthe 1995 "The X-Files" episode "Død Kalm," Agents Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson) trek out to the U.S.S. Ardent, an American destroyer frozen in a remote area off the coast of Norway. The ship had recently been abandoned by its crew as a mysterious environmental condition had caused them to age rapidly; although in their 20s, they looked like they were in their mid-60s. When Mulder and Scully arrive on the Ardent, they find that the remaining crew on board has become mummified and that the ship's hull has already begun to rust through. Before too long, Mulder and Scully begin aging rapidly as well. Mulder theorizes that they have encountered a "wrinkle in time," and that the Ardent might be going through something similar to the notorious Philadelphia Experiment of 1943. Scully later finds that their advanced aging might have something to do with the ship's freshwater supply.

Roger Corman's 1960 feature films "House of Usher" was the first film in a long series of Edgar Allan Poe-based movies at American International Pictures. From 1960 to 1964, Corman directed eight Poe films, with all but one of them starring Vincent Price. After "House of Usher," Corman made "The Pit and the Pendulum," "The Premature Burial," the anthology film "Tales of Terror," "The Raven," "The Haunted Palace," "The Masque of the Red Death," and "The Tomb of Ligeia." Technically, 1963's "The Haunted Palace" isn't a Poe movie. It was named after Poe's 1893 poem but was in fact based on the 1927 short novel "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" by H.P. Lovecraft. Poe, it seems, was a bigger marquee name than Lovecraft, so the latter author's story was merely folded into Corman's short-lived but well-remembered Poe subgenre.

There’s a lot to watch on Prime Video in October and, as you may have guessed, there’s spooky stuff galore in amongst Prime’s usual rotation of extensive library content.
In the movie Totally Killer, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka travels back in time to the 1980s to stop a serial killer. Then there’s Make Me Scream, a Halloween special that challenges celebrities to “a gruesome game of terror.” Renfield will also be streaming on the service for anyone who’s been dying (muahahaha!) to catch the Nic Cage Dracula film.
Outside of Prime Video’s more creepy fare, Shazam! Fury Of The Gods will debut, Upload will be back for a third season, and new film Awareness should scratch your sci-fi itch. Meanwhile, for Frasier heads – those who consider themselves utterly Frasier-pilled – all eleven seasons of the Cheers spinoff show will be streaming at the touch of a button.

Don’t ask Bill Hader to sign a piece of “Star Wars” memorabilia — because he won’t.
Hader’s association with the franchise comes from serving as “voice consultant,” alongside Ben Schwartz, in creating the sounds of droid Bb-8 in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and its sequels.
During a recent appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, the “Barry” star explained why he was no friend to autograph seekers.

Paul Rudd got a bit of a well-deserved “not-mad-just-disappointed” stick from his friend Olivia Colman when she prank-called him on a BBC Radio 1 show Friday morning, Feb. 17.
Rudd, in London for the new Ant-Man press tour, was doing a call-in segment called “Agony Ant-Man” where he dished out advice to troubled callers (think Frasier but make it Marvel, or something like that). This is when Colman called in, just slightly disguising her voice, and asking Rudd a very specific question.

Conan O’Brien might “Need a Friend,” but not one like Paul Rudd!
The real-life besties continued their long-running prank, this time on O’Brien’s “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast. Rudd dropped by the podcast to tease a (faux) show he’s developing as a scripted narrative podcast for Audible.
As Rudd listed the all-star cast that signed on to lend their voices to the series, including Adam Scott, Ken Marino, and Celia Watson, O’Brien listened as though it was fact. The series supposedly stars Rudd as a publicist who falls in love with a woman working in a craft store in New Orleans: Lifetime rom-com movie, much?
“It’s been really kind of great because I don’t normally get the opportunity to work on my own things like that,” Rudd said on the podcast. “I’m usually a hired gun. But it’s been fun,...

Where to Watch “Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return”: Netflix
It doesn’t come until about a half-hour into the first Netflix original episode of “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” but take a few minutes and just bask in “Every Country Has a Monster.” First off, the “What’s your deal? Why don’t you shave?” is the kind of non sequitur that Crow (an impeccable Hampton Yount) thrives on. Then, there’s the carvings, from the etched map to the parade of mythological creature standees that quickly pile up on top of it.
As for the song itself, it’s the linguistic version of “American Ninja Warrior.” That “Congo’s kongamato is a mondo flyin’ dino / I know I don’t wanna die, but when I do, he’ll be the guy” section is Jonah Ray doing the tongue/mouth equivalent of a one-handed salmon ladder.

Paul Rudd crashed Bill Hader’s interview segment kicking off the last-ever week of “Conan” — and he brought a clip. Yeah, it was from “Mac and Me.”
But the setup for this one final TBS trolling was quite convincing. Conan O’Brien asked Hader what had been the biggest bomb of a sketch during his “Saturday Night Live” days. Easy one, Hader said: the time he and host Rudd thought it’d be funny to do Ed Burns voices while grilling.
Sounds like it went as poorly as that sounds.
“We went out there to do it at dress. And I did the voice,” Hader told Conan. “But Paul, for some reason, would not do the voice. And I don’t understand why Paul decided not do it.”
Cue Rudd’s entrance. The tux was a nice touch.
Rudd denied Hader’s accusation.
“Bill’s memory is very hazy,” Rudd told O’Brien.

Celebrated character actor Charles Grodin died Tuesday at the age of 86. The “Heartbreak Kid” star’s multihyphenate career spanned six decades and virtually every medium. However, Grodin did some of his most influential work as himself.
Long before Will Ferrell was interviewed by Jimmy Fallon as Little Debbie or Paul Rudd was trotting out that clip from “Mac and Me” on “Conan,” Grodin was pioneering unpredictable, deadpan humor on the talk show circuit.

Paul Rudd explained the origins of his long-running Mac and Me bit on Conan when he visited the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend.
The bit began nearly 20 years back when Rudd appeared on O'Brien's Late Night. Every time Rudd appears on one of O'Brien's shows, he pretends to introduce a clip from the project he's promoting but instead shares a clip from the 1988 movie Mac and Me. Decades from now, long after the oceans have risen and humanity has descended into chaos, Paul Rudd will still be trolling Conan O’Brien with the same “Mac and Me” clip.
Fifteen years after first faking out the then-“Late Night” host with a clip from the derided 1988 “E.T.” ripoff, the actor swung by “Conan” to prank O’Brien yet again. Rudd’s latest Netflix series “Living with Yourself” joins the list of projects to get the vaunted “Mac and Me” bump on late night, joining a handful of McU entries, “Anchorman 2,” and the “Friends” finale (which initiated the tradition way back in 2004).
Every appearance starts off innocently enough, with Rudd discussing the particulars of the latest film or TV show he’s promoting, dropping in some pre-planned anecdote before throwing to a clip. Nearly without fail, that footage ends up being the same incredibly ridiculous scene from “Mac and Me,...

What the f... yes, it's true. The alternate ending of Mac and Me was dark as hell.
1988's E.T. rip-off Mac And Me may have been lost to the ages somewhat if it weren't for Paul Rudd. The Ant-Man star has been playing the same prank on most of his Conan appearances ever since he popped up as Phoebe's piano playing boyfriend, Mike, in Friends. If you haven't seen one of Rudd's interviews on the talk show, the actor often answers a few fun questions before introducing an "exclusive" preview of his new project, only to present the exact same clip from Mac And Me over and over again. Said clip shows one of the main characters from the film going over a cliff in a wheelchair.
Apart from these regular Rudd ribs, Mac And Me only tends to be referenced as a product placement-stuffed 80s cash-in,...

Do you remember that weird 1988 film Mac and Me that centered around a creepy alien creature known and Mac (Mysterious Alien Creature) that befriends a boy in a wheelchair named Eric Cruise? It's considered by many to be one of the worst movies from the 80s.
If you have seen the film I'm sure you remember the infamous scene where Eric falls off a cliff in his wheelchair. If you don't remember here's a reminder:
If you thought seeing a kid in a wheelchair role of the edge of a giant cliff was bad, just wait until you see this alternate clip from the film that has surfaced. It shows Eric being shot and killed! Remember... this was supposed to be a family-friendly film and in the Japanese cut of the film there is child murder!
Fantastic Fest film curator Peter Kuplowsky has shared this alternate clip on Twitter and it's pretty crazy!

Mst3K Season 12 on Netflix is a go! Expect more Mystery Science Theater 3000 on your screens just in time for Turkey Day.
Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 12 will head back to Netflix for more mirthful movie-riffing, just in time for a proper Thanksgiving Turkey Day marathon. Indeed, Jonah Ray, Felicia Day, Patton Oswalt will be back in their respective MST3K roles, joined, of course, by Crow T. Robot, Tom Servo and Gypsy.
Last year’s inaugural revival season was officially titled Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return. This time, however, the sophomore round will bear the formal title, Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Gauntlet. This is because the series is upping the cheesy movie stakes higher than ever with a cinematic sextet ominously referred to as “The Gauntlet.”

The holiday movie season is in full swing this weekend with a yuletime-set sequel to a recent raucous comedy…again. Yes, it was barely ten days ago when a really early cinema gift arrived at the multiplex, Bad Moms Christmas. Well there are a couple of differences, this new flick is a follow-up to a 2015 release rather than the more recent, just over a year old Bad Moms. Plus the matriarchs’ antics are a tad more adult-themed, since both films garnered much-deserved “R” ratings for raunch. The new arrival is the more “family friendly” PG-13 (it might be even more wholesome than the first one, since there’s less talk of fertility). However both recent installment deal with the chaos and conflict initiated by the visit of the grandparents (Moms had one grandpop’ while this one doesn’t have a granny’ till the last moments). So, put those shopping lists...

There are plenty of movies with McDonald's tie-ins, from the very direct product placement of Mac and Me (pictured below) to all the family films promoted through Happy Meals toys. The new adaptation of Stephen King's It is not one of these movies. Not only is it an R-rated horror movie that doesn't fit the fast food chain's general demographics, but the specific fact that the movie involves a killer clown and the restaurant brand has a clown -- Ronald McDonald -- for a mascot would obviously send some confusing messages to customers. Yet the clown connection is precisely why a competing fast food company is upset. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Burger King's Russia division is seeking to have the movie formally banned from the...

There are two types of bad movies: The ones the zeitgeist deems bad (like, say, The Room, Birdemic, or Academy Award winner Crash) or the ones the critics refuse to adorn with their approval. The following video is concerned with the latter, though there is a little overlap with the former, if only for the fact that movies like Manos: Hands Of Fate never culled a sizable amount of reviews.
This Looper video listicle compiles 10 films currently holding a 0 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. There are a few easy targets in there—Manos, obviously, as well as that ubiquitous staple of shit cinema, Mac And Me—but there’s also a few would-be blockbusters and some forgotten symbols of misguided ambition.
For example: Have you even heard of 1981’s Heartbeeps, the robot-centric comedy starring Andy Kaufman, Bernadette Peters, and “a garbage child robot”? Or Roller Boogie, the ...

Plenty of movies have tried to capture the same magic as E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Perhaps most famous is the abysmal, blatant ripoff Mac and Me, which provides endless, unintentional laughs, but there are plenty more than have come and gone. It’s hard to manufacture the kind of genuine wonder and emotion that came from […]

Even though its several months till the temps rise to signal the start of blockbuster kid-friendly entertainment time, the multiplex chefs are ready to whip up something that will satisfy the appetites of the pre-teen crowds. Here’s a tasty mash-up, much in the vein of other blended concoctions. Several years ago some far-sighted studio marketing exec thought, “Hey, kids love their doggies and they love sports, so how about a pooch that plays basketball?”. Air Bud proved to be quite the franchise, so this new flick should be another “slam dunk”. The tots love their weird creatures (as long as they’re not too scary) and they adore those big-wheeled behemoths that flattened everything in their path. Have some animation veterans sprinkle a bit of magic and slapstick, and you’ve got a candy coated respite from those somber award season contenders. Clear the way for the Monster Trucks.

What if “monster trucks” actually meant — wait for it — that there were monsters in the trucks? Cute monsters, of course. Nice monsters. (Duh! Nobody likes bad monsters.) The kind of monsters that a boy could be friends with and drive around with and do daring deeds with. Wouldn’t that be cool?
A monster in a truck is the least ridiculous thing amidst a story that is often illogical and morally hugely problematic.
Apparently — this will shock you — Monster Trucks was developed from an idea by former Paramount president Adam Goodman’s four-year-old son. Seriously. They didn’t actually...

Clip It: Each day, Jon Davis looks at the world of trailers, featurettes and clips and puts it all in perspective. The first thing we all wonder about when we take all of our friends and family to see a movie with aliens in it is what do the aliens look like? Are they the humanoid dudes with bug heads like in District 9? Are they the amazing H.R Giger creatures from Aliens? Are they the small grey guys from Close Encounter of the Third Kind? The worst thing that's ever happened in American cinema is when Jodie Foster traveled eight trillion light years only to end up in Pensacola, Florida to meet an alien who chose to look like her dad. That was awful. We can never repeat that atrocity committed on film. This trailer for Arrival smartly doesn't tell us what the aliens look like yet. Amy Adams plays a linguist,...

The Movie Doctors is more than Wittertainment jumping from the airwaves to the printed page. Here's our review...
How do you write a review about The Movie Doctors, by Simon Mayo and Mark Kermode? Well, you just…, ah I suspect many of you got there first.
And if you did, this is your book. A fascinating, broad and beautifully presented collection of arguments, articles, diagrams and disputes that leap from the airwaves of Wittertainment (aka The Kermode & Mayo Film Review on Radio 5 Live/Radio Five/Five Live/we keep forgetting what they're officially called these days) and onto the printed page, there’s plenty that others could learn from this.
For in an era where books for fans of things have a habit of taking that audience for granted, that’s absolutely what The Movie Doctors doesn’t do. Running to over 300 pages, and with sky-high production values,...

In life, some things are certain. The earth will spin on its axis, the sun will rise and set, and Robert De Niro’s leading ladies will be at least two decades younger than him. It comes as no surprise, then, to hear the news that Jennifer Aniston has committed to star opposite the Academy Award winning legend, in his long-awaited humorous project, The Comedian – to be directed by Oscar winner Taylor Hackford.
The Comedian seems to have had a particularly long gestation period and was, at one point, going to be directed by Mike Newell. Robert De Niro has remained with the project throughout the development process, however, and that patience is now paying off, with the final pieces of the puzzle falling into place. Written and produced by Art Linson (What Just Happened) – with stand-up material by Jeffrey Ross – The Comedian will feature De Niro in the role...

Apocalyptic thriller Left Behind stars Nicolas Cage. Its reviews were not kind. And it features perhaps the worst movie break-in ever...
Films are sometimes critically panned not because they're inherently bad, but because of the larger story surrounding them. Consider Battlefield Earth, for example: a terrible movie, sure, but its production history (not to mention its connection to the Church of Scientology) made it an easy target.
Solar Crisis, released in 1990 was an equally awful movie--and with a budget of $55 million, just as financially calamitous--but it was largely ignored while Battlefield Earth's hideousness was trumpeted from the rooftops.
Which brings us to 2014's Left Behind, a film so universally panned by critics that its Rotten Tomatoes score sits at an abysmal three percent. This places it a mere whisker above such legendarily bad films as Jaws: The Revenge and Mac and Me, and a startling 10 percent...

Let it be said now: Paul Rudd doesn't give up. When he commits to a prank, he will ride that prank into the ground, and he will not back down. Sure, he's probably super dedicated to acting and what not, but where he's truly ruthless in his need to have the last laugh. One could even say he's following in George Clooney's footsteps. His latest foil comes at the expense of none other than television's Conan O'Brien. Loyal watchers of the late-night host will recall that Rudd has a little tradition whenever he comes on the show: Instead of playing a clip from the movie he is supposed to be promoting, he'll instead surprise O'Brien with a clip from the 1988 Et knockoff Mac and Me....

If you've seen any of Paul Rudd's appearances on Conan, you'll know that the Ant-Man star enjoys debuting "exclusive" clips from the movie he's starring in which always end up being the same scene from Mac and Me. It's not a spoiler to say that he did the exact same thing when appearing on the show earlier this week, but it this time uses - ahem - state of the art CGI to add the Marvel hero into the scene. It's a lot of fun, so check it out in the player below. Rudd has been having a lot of fun on the chat show circuit this week, revealing that Michael Douglas thinks he's a pervert and playing his own super fan, "Mall Blubb". Stay tuned to Cbm tomorrow for my review of Ant-Man. The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers...
