This movie was filmed at the same time as two other John Hughes movies: The Great Outdoors (1988), which was written by Hughes, and Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987), which was written and directed by him. Some of the same cast members from both films appear in this film in cameos seen at the end of the picture.
This was a very personal project for John Hughes, and he took it hard when the film didn't do well at the box office.
