Star Trek: The Original Series didn't focus much on the characters' personal lives. At the time, the show was about the science fiction and the drama taking place in space. People wanted to see the new aliens and planets the Enterprise visited, and most were okay with not knowing Dr. McCoy's [DeForest Kelley] ex-wife's name or other little details about the characters.
But some of the actors themselves wanted more for their characters. They wanted them to grow and become more well-known to the audience. Perhaps in doing so, the characters would become more three-dimensional and necessary in the scripts.
One particular actor who lobbied for such changes was George Takei. He wanted Lt. Sulu to have a family. In a 2010 interview with Startrek.com, Takei talked about how he suggested a family for Sulu, someone for him to connect with. "I suggested Sulu having a family that he connects with.

If one of the newest products from consumer-goods giant Procter & Gamble reminds you of something the company made in the 1960s, 70s or 80s, well, there’s good reason.
When “Beyond the Gates” debuts Monday afternoon on CBS, it will mark a return by the company, one of the world’s biggest makers of household staples such as laundry detergent, deodorant and floor cleaner, to the world of soap operas. In a different era, Procter was a producer of some of the genre’s longest-running examples, including “Guiding Light” and “As the World Turns,” and they were as important to Procter as Mr. Clean, Pampers and Tide. P&g is teaming up with a joint venture between CBS and the NAACP to produce the show.

Star Trek: Generations is one of the weakest of the four films that united the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation, although it was more favorable to fans than Star Trek: Nemesis. Still, it had its issues, but David Carson, the direction of Generations, didn't consider Malcolm McDowell, who played the villain, Soran, to be one fo them.
In the book The Fifty-Year Mission The Next Twenty-Five Years—from The Next Generation to J.J. Abrams by Mark A. Altman and Edward Gross, Carson is reported as saying the considered "Malcolm McDowell to be a key to the movie," and further added that McDowell "sits at the same level as Picard and Kirk."
The end, result, however, was that McDowell's performance did not wow critics or fans. Reelviews called him "probably the weakest Star Trek film villain," while the reviewer forThe Baltimore Sun wrote that "Soran as a nemesis [was] unworthy...

There's a lot of hype behind Monster Hunter Wilds. With the franchise becoming one of Capcom's biggest in recent years, this title could be the most anticipated in the series' history. The game is the best-looking in the franchise by far, and while there are some worthy concerns about how well it will run, Mh Wilds seeks to offer more from a character customization point of view. For one, the character creation has taken a page out of Dragon's Dogma 2's book, but those improvements aren't where it ends.
If the first open beta test is anything to go by, the player character will actually be a character, talking and interacting with the world, rather than being a nodding mute like in prior titles. This seems to be an evolution from Mh Rise, since hunters began being vocal here, and Capcom seems to be adding more RPG elements by...

‘Beyond the Gates’ (Btg) Spoilers is a groundbreaking new soap that will premiere on CBS on February 24, 2025. It’s the first African American soap since “Generations,” which aired from March 1989 to January 1991.
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: We Weren’t Ready For The Marshall Family On Generations, But We’re Ready For The Duprees Now
When Generations aired, the US wasn’t ready for an African American soap. It suffered poor ratings and a lack of support from the NBC network.
Not to mention, it went up against the second half of “The Young and the Restless.” Now, CBS is airing Beyond the Gates in a plum time slot: at 2:00 p.m. when “As the World Turns” once aired.” Wise choice, CBS.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for 1883, 1923, and Yellowstone!
The Duttons have a rich family tree supporting the Yellowstone franchise, and the second outing of 1923 can piece together a mysterious gap in the fabric of Taylor Sheridan's neo-Western. The Dutton family tree in Yellowstone begins with the story of Margaret and James Dutton in 1883. Real-life partners and country musicians Tim McGraw and Faith Hill kick off the Yellowstone timeline with their family's northwestern journey from Texas to Montana. The Yellowstone 1883 cast includes James and Margaret's children, John (Audie Rick) and Elsa (Isabel May) Dutton.
Sadly, the whole Dutton family barely survives the journey, and the Dutton timeline continues with James' brother, Harrison Ford's Jacob Dutton, in 1923. Paramount+ released the first season of the Depression-era saga on December 18, 2022, and the show is preparing for its comeback two years later. It almost feels like an unwritten rule that if a franchise exists for long enough, a big crossover must happen. From worlds colliding on the small screen dating back to "I Love Lucy" meeting Superman in "Lucy and Superman" to massive crossovers on the big screen in comic book movies like "The Avengers," it's a tradition in Hollywood that goes back decades. So, inevitably, after nearly 30 years spanning multiple shows and movies, the time came for "Star Trek" to boldly go where it had never gone before.
1994's "Star Trek: Generations" united the two most famous Starfleet captains to ever live; William Shatner's James T. Kirk and Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard. Despite being separated by decades, science fiction shenanigans allowed...

The soap opera, which CBS picked up to series in April, is set in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C., in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. The show centers on the Duprees, “a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty,” the show’s description reads. “But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered.”

Getting hate in the anime industry is not a new thing, as fans would not shy away from expressing their detest, especially when the anime adaptation is not up to the mark. From One Piece to Dragon Ball Super, no one is safe from constant criticism.

The toxic fans are on the rise, where Boruto: Naruto Next Generations was met with unmatched hate after it failed to live up to the expectations of the original series. The relentless criticism following the original show was unjust, putting it under a ton of pressure. Hence, creating a void that followed the conclusion of Shippuden.
Though the manga was well-received, the same fans do not consider the spin-off to be a worthy successor of the show that was once part of The Big Three.

Anticipation is high for the first new soap opera to debut since Passions premiered on NBC in 1999. Originally titled The Gates, the show’s name changed to Beyond the Gates. It is the first soap to feature an all-Black cast since Generations debuted in 1989. As fans clamor for more information about the show, which is set to debut in 2025, its creator Michele Val Jean shared a cryptic nugget indicating exciting things to come.
A Picture That Spoke a Thousand Words
On X, formerly Twitter, Val Jean posted two side-by-side pics with the caption, “Just gonna leave this here #beyondthegates.” The images are most likely from the control room for when shooting commences and are chock full of monitors, a video switcher, an intercom panel, and many more pieces of equipment. The monitors display color bars with the text of the show’s title, Beyond the Gates, emblazoned in the center.

The crown jewel of Taylor Sheridan's television empire is finally back and better than ever before ... or almost, at least. The expansive Western series has been a streaming favorite for several years running now, constantly pulling in the kinds of numbers that other shows could only ever look upon with envy. With Sheridan's writing, a sprawling cast, and star Kevin Costner leading the charge as John Dutton, what could possibly go wrong? Well, a little extracurricular drama behind the scenes resulting in America's dad parting ways with "Yellowstone" and the subsequent news that the show's fifth season would also be its final one (setting aside the recent rumors of a potential season 6 for the moment) ended up throwing a wrench into things. Bummer!
Not that you would know any of that if you were to watch the first official trailer for "Yellowstone" season 5, part 2, however. The nostalgic footage...

For the uninitiated, "Star Trek: Enterprise" debuted in late September 2001, shortly after "Star Trek: Voyager" ended its seventh and final season. "Voyager" ended a 14-year hot streak for "Star Trek," beginning in 1987 with the debut of "Star Trek: The Next Generation." That show, set in the 24th century, was such a hit that the curators of "Star Trek" — Rick Berman, Michael Piller, Jeri Taylor, and Brannon Braga highest among them — created two spinoffs that continued within the same timeline. They debuted "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in 1993, and "Voyager" was added in 1995. At the same time, the franchise continued its run on the big screen, seeing the release of four feature films in that same 14-year release window. It was a long road, getting from there to here.
"Enterprise," however, was met with skepticism. The new series was set in 2151, a full century before the events of the original "Star Trek,...

There's a barrage of Star Trek news coming in today, both good and bad. Star Trek: Lowers Decks will kick off its final season on Thursday, October 24; the first two episodes will drop at once. After the release of "Star Trek: Generations" in 1994, the various "Trek" writers felt a great weight lifted. There were a lot of strange story requirements in place when adapting "Star Trek: The Next Generation" to the big screen for the first time, and writers Ron D. Moore and Brannon Braga bent over backwards to invent a story that fulfilled every mandate. They managed to check every box -- original "Star Trek" cast members in the first 10 minutes only, Klingons had to be involved, time travel had to be a plot element -- but "Generations" feels scattered as a result. It ultimately served as a "passing of the torch" from Captain Kirk (William Shatner) to Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart), which was wholly unnecessary, given that Picard had already headlined his own TV series for seven seasons.
When the time came to write a sequel, Braga and Moore suddenly felt a lot freer.

[Warning: The below contains spoilers for MasterChef: Generations 14 Finale.] It was a battle for the ages during the Season 14 MasterChef: Generations finale. This time around home cooks classified as Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, and Baby Boomers compete not only for themselves but to represent the time period they were born into. At stake was also $250,000, trophy, kitchen, and kitchenware. and the title of America’s MasterChef. Judges Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez, and Joe Bastianich narrowed down the field to a Top 3 after the pressure cooker in the form of Ramsay’s Rooftop Restaurant Takeover. From there, the remaining group had to endure the Mystery Box Challenge with a dish inspired by a restaurant review. The ultimate test was keeping up with Gordon’s pan-seared salmon to decide the trio would go to the finale. When the kitchen haze settled, it came down to Gen Z’s Becca Gibb and Millenials Kamay Lafalaise and Michael Leonard.

Nearly four years since a primetime reboot of “All My Children” was first placed in development at ABC, it looks like Lifetime will instead become the new home for the latest happenings in Pine Valley.
Soap Opera Network has confirmed that the cable network is in the early stages of development on a series of TV movies that will utilize characters from the long-running daytime drama series, which ran from January 5, 1970-September 23, 2011.

According to TV Line, which first reported the news, the network is in active development on at least two “All My Children” TV movies, one of which is said to be holiday-themed. Earlier this week, “The Gates” creator Michele Val Jean created a stir on social media when she posted a minor update on the upcoming CBS daytime drama series she executive produces and serves as showrunner.
“Today was a big day for #TheGates,” commented Val Jean in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Wish I could share more but I needed to at least mark it. If you know, you know.”
Although Val Jean didn’t elaborate further on her post, and her message could be referring to something completely unrelated, Soap Opera Network has learned that in recent weeks the series has formally assembled its writers’ room which is likely to include some familiar names to the genre.
In addition to a writers’ room, Soap Hub announced last month that veteran writer Robert Guza Jr. and veteran producer Julie Hanan Carruthers have signed on as executive producers, working alongside executive producers Sheila Duckworth,...

When it comes to "Star Trek" characters, there's no one quite as legendary as James Tiberius Kirk, the Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise on the very first "Star Trek" series back in 1966. Played by William Shatner, the character became a cornerstone of a greater franchise universe -- the captain who really set the tone for all of the other captains to come. Shatner last played the character onscreen in the 1994 film "Star Trek Generations," which was a complicated and controversial send-off for Kirk. However, he told The Hollywood Reporter in March 2024 that he is open to playing the character again ... with two major conditions.
Bringing back an older version of Kirk back would be sort of difficult since the character died in "Generations." Of course, given that various timelines and time travel are a part of the "Star Trek" universe, it isn't entirely out of the realm of possibility.

Love it or hate it, "Sanford and Son" is one of the most groundbreaking American sitcoms of all time. The NBC series about a widowed get-rich-quick schemer (Redd Foxx) living in Los Angeles' Watts neighborhood with his adult son (Demond Wilson) was an undeniable hit during its run. It ushered in a Golden Age of Black family sitcoms thanks to dynamic performances, frank dialogue written from a working-class Black perspective, and its often uproarious scripts. It was such a ratings juggernaut that it's often credited for killing off its much more sanitized competition, "The Brady Bunch."
"It was a groundbreaking series," Eric Deggans wrote in a series retrospective for the official Emmys website, noting that "Before 'Good Times' and 'The Jeffersons' would make TV history with powerful stories focused on Black families, 'Sanford and Son' would explore the prickly relationship between a middle-aged Black man and his son.

In the case of Underwood, the final season fulfills a two-year deal she signed back in 2022 which would see her continuing to co-host the daytime talk show through Season 15 and provided her with a first-look development deal with CBS Studios.
The final season of “The Talk” will conclude in December.

At the end of Nicholas Meyer's 1991 film "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," the U.S.S. Enterprise-a is ordered back to Starfleet headquarters ... to be decommissioned. This was, the crew finally realized, their final, final adventure as a crew, and the road had come to an end. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), however, gave the perfect response "If I were human," he said, "I believe my response would be: 'Go to Hell.'" He then added, hastily, "If I were human."
I can only hear Nimoy's reading of "Go to Hell" when thinking about his non-participation in "Star Trek: Generations" in 1994. "Generations," as most Trekkies might tell you, is a notably weak film, presenting a rushed jumble of ideas without much drama or profundity. The busiest time in "Star Trek" history was likely the two-year stretch from 1993 to 1995. In January 1993, "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" debuted, running alongside the sixth and seventh seasons of the already-popular "Star Trek: The Next Generation." In May 1994, "Next Generation" came to an end with a two-part finale, perhaps one of the best episodes of the series. As soon as that was done, shooting almost immediately began on "Star Trek: Generations," and production was so quick that it hit theaters in November of that same year. And, because resting appears to be anathema, the new series "Star Trek: Voyager" debuted in January 1995.
In two years, the franchise churned out 98 episodes and a feature film.
When making "Generations," however, everyone was in the thick of it. The writers, actors, and all the rest were working overtime to shift from the finale of "NextGen" into a large-scale movie. If that wasn't enough hard work,...

There were multiple crossovers between the original "Star Trek" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation." This first happened in the 1987 pilot episode of the latter, wherein DeForest Kelley appeared as a very elderly — 137! — Dr. McCoy. Then in 1991's "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country," Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and Dr. McCoy were put on trial in a Klingon court, and their Klingon defense lawyer was played by "Next Generation" Worf actor Michael Dorn. There is some debate as to whether or not Dorn was playing an ancestor of Worf's in that film. What's more, Sarek (Mark Lenard) appeared on "Next Generation" in an episode devoted to him.

Shatner, Nimoy, and Kelley certainly had the most screen time on "Star Trek," yet they often advocated for more. Eventually, Shatner and Nimoy became such whiny spotlight hogs that show creator Gene Roddenberry had to write an angry letter, demanding the actors stop whining and get back to work.
Trekkies, however, knew better than Shatner and Nimoy. "Star Trek" was always an ensemble piece about a core cast of multiple characters. In addition to the three "leads," the show also regularly featured chief engineer Scott/Scotty (James Doohan), communications officer Uhura (Nichelle Nichols), Ensign Chekov (Walter Koenig), Yeoman Rand...
