A Very inspiring and well presented screenplay. A Great story with real feelings and suspense. The story takes you along with every character, as and how the story progresses. Brilliant acting by all and a must watch..

Ek Din Achanak in Hindi can be loosely translated as, "One day, without warning." This movie beautifully captures the vagaries of life in a typical middle-class home in a nondescript city in India. The subject of the movie is a retired professor Sriram Lagoo) who walks out on a rainy day and disappears without any reasons. The story unfolds as the family reacts to this disappearance first with shock, then sorrow, resignation and finally acceptance. This story is told with the lyrical background of rain and the pace is leisurely. No explanations are given, nor any analysis performed. The director tries to keep the movie focussed on the central theme without degenerating the plot to a thriller. Munmun Sen shines as the student whose relationship with the professor is left unsolved.
A must see if you are a lover of the ethos of the ordinariness of middle-class India.

It struck very personal note with me. I have experienced two such events in my own life. I was feeling so guilty about them since I did not know that such instances are not so rare after all. I can now face reality of life without any fear of exposure.
The most memorable scene is the exposure of a Guru and superstitious people who frequent them. At one time it appeared as if the Guru would turn out to be the father himself since he is not seen at all but the story line is much better than that outcome. When a visitor to the Guru becomes sick every one calls for a doctor rather the Guru who is supposed to have supernatural powers.
I hope I can live more happily after knowing how ordinary has been my own life.

this movie i have seen long back when i was forced to see it as it was telecast ed on the only TV network of that time in India . oh my god what a waste of time . I remember the title to mark it a baseline to understand the bad movies . and i feel sad when somebody gave it 9+ rating . Please see this movie and if you can see it till end get your medical checkup done . if you stop this movie in middle(or in ten Min's) and feel like burn the DVD then it is expected behavior .
the movie is all slow moving , direction less story which is focused on a person who has disappeared without any cause . and I have seen the movie till the point where they donate his books to a library . and my patience ran out . I was a young kid but I was most patient in my family . my all family members left one by one to the local recreation center in the town . because this movie was telecast ed on the only channel which was available that time in India . and when i went to the local recreation center I found almost everyone in the town there because no one was watching TV that day . This was enough to understand how bad is this movie .
frankly those who don't know India should know that till mid nineties there was only one TV channel and only one movie used to come in a week on Sunday . so when they telecast a movie on Sunday it used to be like a curfew in small towns . and if people cant watch that movie you can understand how bad it is ....
