Before USA Network became series-focused, the cable channel delivered a steady stream of weekly original movies. Many of which were produced by McA (now NBCUniversal). And during this era — between the late 1980s and early 2000s — USA offered a variety of genres; action and suspense were the most common, but horror also came up from time to time.
Especially around Halloween.
USA Network is no longer in the business of airing these “World Premiere Movies,” horror or otherwise, and there haven’t been great strides to bring all of them to streaming or modern home video. However, the horror entries certainly have their merits as well as fans.
See if you can remember these original movies from USA Network’s horror history.

The Horrors have returned with a revamped lineup and announced their new album, Night Life, due out March 21st, 2025 via Fiction Records. As a preview, the UK five-piece has revealed the first single, “The Silence That Remains.”
Marking their first full-length since 2017’s V, The Horrors’ sixth album features the new lineup of founding vocalist Faris Badwan and bassist Rhys Webb joined by original member Joshua Hayward on guitar, Amelia Kidd on keys, and Telegram’s Jordan Cook on drums. As such, Night Life is the band’s first record not to feature all five original members: absent are keyboardist Tom Furse and drummer Joe Spurgeon.
Badwan and Webb began working on demos for the album at Webb’s flat in North London, with initial recording done in Los Angeles with Yves Tumor and Blondshell producer Yves Rothman. Hayward joined them in London to complete the project, with Kidd contributing remotely.

Chris Stapleton took the stage during his recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show for a special performance of “Loving You on My Mind.” The song, which appears on the musician’s latest studio album, Higher, was elevated to the next level as Stapleton was joined by Hudson herself and the country duo the War and Treaty.
Stapleton kicked off the song with the War and Treaty, singing alongside his band. About halfway through, following one of the singer’s soulful guitar solos, Hudson emerged from side stage to bring the performance home.

We have learned the sad news this week that prolific horror author Ray Garton, who wrote nearly 70 books over the course of his career, has passed away after a battle with lung cancer.
Ray Garton was 61 years old.
Stephen King tweets, “I’m hearing that Ray Garton, horror novelist and friend, died yesterday. This is sad news, and a loss to those who enjoyed his amusing, often surreal, posts on Twitter.”
Ray Garton’s novels include Seductions, Darklings, Live Girls, Night Life, and Crucifax in the 1980s, followed in later decades by output including A Dark Place: The Story of a True Haunting, Trade Secrets, The New Neighbor, Lot Lizards, Dark Channel, Shackled, The Girl in the Basement, The Loveliest Dead, Ravenous, Bestial, and most recently, Trailer Park Noir.

It’s a brand new year, and Deep Cuts Rising is back to spotlight less talked about horror movies. The first installment of 2024 features selections reflecting the month of January.
Regardless of how they came to be here, or what they’re about, these past movies can generally be considered overlooked, forgotten or unknown.
This month’s offerings feature zombies, a killer New Year’s party and more.
Knife of Ice (1972)
Image: All but too late, Ida Galli (as Evelyn Stewart) spots the knife-wielding killer behind her in Knife of Ice.
Directed by Umberto Lenzi.
Giallo fans have designated both January and July as months for celebrating the genre. So it’s a great time to get acquainted with these stylish mysteries. Novices will naturally be drawn to the more popular and acclaimed filmmakers that gialli have to offer — Dario Argento, Mario Bava, Lucio Fulci — but others like Umberto Lenzi shouldn’t be disregarded.

Willie Nelson celebrated his 90th birthday last weekend with some of his talented friends and admirers — from Keith Richards to Billy Strings — at the Hollywood Bowl in L.A. Just a few days later, the iconic singer-songwriter also added to his accolades by becoming a newly elected member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. From covering rock and pop classics to collaborating with non-country acts both live and on record, here are 10 of the mercurial master’s best rock-influenced performances.

“Are there any more real cowboys?” Neil Young sang Saturday night at the Hollywood Bowl on a rare evening when he was neither the headliner nor, at age 77, even close to the oldest artist on the bill.
Providing an instant answer, Willie Nelson, wearing a cowboy hat and red-white-and-blue guitar strap, slowly strolled on to the stage on his 90th birthday, bringing the crowd of more than 17,000 to its feet.
Nelson sat in a chair — one of the few onstage concessions he’s made to age — and joined Young for the rest of their 1985 duet, “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?”

Willie Nelson’s 90th birthday celebration gathered an eclectic group of well-wishers including Neil Young, Snoop Dogg, and The Chicks for the first of two performances at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl on Saturday. Watch fan-captured footage from the event below.
“Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90, A Star-Studded Concert Celebrating Willie’s 90th Birthday” kicked off with perhaps the roster’s youngest performer, Billy Strings, who played two Shotgun Willie staples, “Whiskey River” and “Stay a Little Longer.” He later returned to back Bob Weir on a rendition of “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” from Nelson’s classic 1975 LP, Red Headed Stranger, which received further looks from the likes of Norah Jones, Beck, and Tyler Childers.
Country as a genre was well represented between The Chicks, Margo Price, Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, and more, but the set also spanned Nelson’s many musical phases and stages with covers from Tom Jones,...

Frank Ocean made his long-awaited return to the stage on Sunday with a headlining appearance at Coachella 2023.
Things got off to a rather inauspicious start for the much anticipated performance. For those hoping to watch at home, Ocean was pulled from the YouTube livestream just three hours before his scheduled set time. For those on the ground, there was the disappointment of no Ocean products being offered at the merch tent, and the lengthy delay as his set didn’t start until an hour past the scheduled start time.
When Ocean did finally take the stage, it was in a rather modest fashion, facing away from the audience and towards his band. He chose to remain more controlled and insular, frequently removing himself from the stage and his own songs. His performance set up — an equipment-laden mock studio backdrop featuring a line of dancers doing pedestrian choreography while a full-stage...

These days everything and everyone is “iconic.” But here, at the center of five rich and unrushed episodes, is the real deal. As he approaches his 90th birthday, the composer of such immortal numbers as “Crazy,” “Night Life” and “On the Road Again” is still writing songs, still playing to concert crowds. Delving into the incomparable songbook, directors Thom Zimny and Oren Moverman show how Willie Nelson broke the country mold and transcended genre boxes, again and again. Their authorized biography — the musician’s wife and his manager are executive producers — is a love letter, to be sure, and like Nelson himself it doesn’t dwell on negativity, but there’s nothing simplistic or naive about it. Willie Nelson & Family is a portrait of a man who has made music and lived life on his own terms, in good times and bad.

It’s become sort of a seasonal tradition for the Country Music Association to do something that makes people angry just before its annual November awards show. In 2017, there was the infamous entreaty to reporters to refrain from asking questions about gun control on the red carpet, while last year saw the optimistic promise — or veiled threat — of a “No Drama” show. And this year, there was Morgan Wallen and the possibility that a country star who was filmed saying the N-word back in February could actually win the CMA for Album of the Year.

The 55th Annual Country Music Association Awards held on November 10 ended with another surprise for Entertainer of the Year: Luke Combs won for the first time on just his second try, which comes after Eric Church pulled off an upset in that category in 2020. It was a counterintuitive result considering that Chris Stapleton had just swept all four of his other categories, including Male Vocalist of the Year, where he beat Combs. And it meant Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert have to wait at least one more year for the title. Check out the complete list of winners here.
Stapleton was ultimately the night’s biggest winner, claiming Album of the Year for “Starting Over” and Single of the Year and Song of the Year for the title track, in addition to his aforementioned Male Vocalist victory. You’d think that would make a strong case for him to be considered Entertainer of the Year,...

At his show at Forest Hills Stadium this summer, Willie Nelson did something unusual: He played his classic “Funny How Time Slips Away” in full. Regulars of his shows might have noticed that he usually plays a short version of the 1961 song as part of a medley alongside “Night Life” and “Crazy,” but because he was playing a shorter set, he decided to drop some other songs and switch things up. “I like to keep it in [my set] if I can,” he told Rolling Stone afterward.

The Berklee College of Music celebrated music legends Willie Nelson, Carole King and Annie Lennox during its commencement at the Boston school on Saturday.
Lennox, a singer and member of the duo Eurythmics, was Berklee's commencement speaker, addressing the largest graduating class in the college's history -- 1,050.
Each of the Grammy-award winning singers received honorary music degrees from Berklee, making them all "doctors."
“I was going to ask them if I could write my own medication,” the 80-year-old pro-pot Nelson joked to the Boston Globe. "Probably not, but it doesn’t hurt to ask."
On Friday, Nelson joined singer Kris Kristofferson on stage at the school's annual commencement concert, where they performed Hank Williams’ "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)." B.B. King 11/29/12 B.B. King's Sometimes, the decision whether to go to a concert is a checklist thing: "B.B. King is 87 years old, has diabetes, and already played a 'farewell tour' six years ago; I have never been to a B.B. King concert; ergo, I should go to this one." Not that there aren't other factors. For instance, is he still singing and playing well? The man has made more live albums than many artists have made total albums, so there's relatively recent evidence -- one of them came out this year -- saying yes. Of course, that album's also plagued by too many guests and not enough B.B., so that was a worry, but fortunately there were no guests at this show, just B.B. and his ace band.

From indie California punks to mainstream rock 'n rollers whose latest album is available at your nearest convenience store (seriously), Green Day have certainly come a long way in their career, which has spanned more than two decades. From grimy basement gigs to selling out arenas worldwide to even conquering the Broadway stage (with the "American Idiot" production), what can they possibly do next? How about providing the soundtrack to a long-running crime procedural on network television? Um, okay. The band has lent "CSI: NY" tunes from their new trio of albums ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tre! for an upcoming episode. The plot will revolve around the capture of a shooter who injures Lindsay Monroe while attempting to pick off a political candidate. But the twist here is that the songs -- “Stop When The Red Lights Flash,” “Amy,” “Night Life,” “The Forgotten” and “Kill The DJ” -- will be...
