Swamp Thing is a character that's very near and dear to my heart, because Alan Moore's seminal run on the DC Comics character not only introduced me to him and his world, but this run made me love comics as a medium that can stand on its own - a feeling that still persists to this day.
The Swamp Thing is rather well-known to the comic book readers out there, but he isn't quite as well-known to mainstream audiences as some of his DC counterparts. If you weren't aware of existence, then it's probably even less likely that you would know the various adaptions that have been made about the character on both the big and small screens.
With that in mind, let's explore the various adaptions of the Swamp Thing character throughout the decades, and I hope you'll join me on this trip through the bayou!

Steel is the lowest-earning DC movie ever, making only $1.8 million worldwide on a $16 million budget. As Superman's most virtuous successor, DC Comics' John Henry Irons has plenty of potential for a modern reboot. Nowadays, lesser-known comic book characters have more opportunities to shine than ever before, and Steel could be a star in James Gunn's Dcu.
Enough time has passed since Steel's abysmal release to warrant another DC movie attempt. From 1951's Superman and the Mole Men to Tim Burton's Batman, Richard Donner's Superman, and Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, DC movies released before the Dceu and the Dcu mostly focused on the company's two most famous superheroes, Batman and Superman. Some exceptions to this rule were 1982's Swamp Thing and its 1989 sequel The Return of Swamp Thing, as well as 2005's Constantine, 2010's Jonah Hex, and 2011's Green Lantern.

Wes Craven almost directed Superman IV, but left due to creative differences with Christopher Reeve. Craven's dark sensibilities could have revitalized the Superman character and offered a unique take. If Craven had directed Superman IV, the film might have been darker or satirical in tone.
Wes Craven is widely revered as a horror auteur, but the Nightmare on Elm Street director could have once helmed a DC project like Superman in the 1980s. Even if he actually took on the project, this wouldnt have been Cravens first comic book film. Before being considered for a live-action Superman movie, Craven had already directed the 1982 cult classic Swamp Thing. Based on the DC comic series of the same name, Cravens superhero movie initially polarized critics but became a major success on home video and cable, and even spawned the 1989 sequel The Return of Swamp Thing.

Jim Wynorski is a legend in the B-movie world, having racked up over 100 directing credits over the course of his 40+ years of working in the entertainment industry. Among those credits are Chopping Mall, Deathstalker II, The Return of Swamp Thing, Sorority House Massacre II, Hard to Die, Ghoulies IV, Demolition High, Piranhaconda, Sharkansas Women’s Prison Massacre, Attack of the 50 Foot CamGirl, and Murderbot – so it’s clear to see why Wynorski was the subject of a documentary back in 2009. The documentary is called Popatopolis, and the folks at Terror Vision have just brought it to Blu-ray for the first time ever! Copies can be ordered at This Link.

A new episode of the Revisited video series has just been released, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie that some may not consider to be a horror movie, but at the very least it is an “experimental psychological thriller” from a highly respected genre director. The director in question is David Lynch, and the movie we’re talking about today is the 2006 release Inland Empire (get it Here). To revisit Inland Empire with us, check out the video embedded above.
Written and directed by Lynch, Inland Empire tells the following story over the course of its 180 minute running time: Nikki, an actress, takes on a role in a new film, and because her husband is very jealous, her co-star Devon gets a warning not to make any romantic overtures — especially since the characters they play are having an affair. The upcoming Swamp Thing movie faces a possible obstacle in the form of the McU's Man-Thing. One of the characters who will take part in the first chapter of the DC Universe, "Gods and Monsters" is Swamp Thing, avatar of the Green. Although the creature had a short-lived live-action series in 2019, DC's Swamp Thing movie will mark the first time Alec Holland will appear on the big screen since the campy 1982 and 1989 Swamp Thing and The Return of Swamp Thing B-movie attempts to bring the DC character to life.
Swamp Thing is a powerful but kindhearted hero who's fueled by nature. A scientist-turned-monster, Swamp Thing generally stays away from mankind unless humans threaten his habitat, at least until other less-than-perfect heroes require his assistance. These characteristics make Swamp Thing a pretty unique DC character, but his similarities with a Marvel anti-hero could become a problem for his upcoming live-action adaptation.

DC Studios head James Gunn announced that a Swamp Thing movie will be part of the first slate of DC films he will be producing as he reboots the DC Universe. This morning, we released a Revisited episode that looks back at director Wes Craven’s 1982 version of Swamp Thing (you can watch that in the embed above). It turns out that a cryptic Twitter post can mean a lot more than just reminiscing about your favorite superhero. The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that James Mangold is in negotiations to direct the recently-announced "Swamp Thing" film for DC Studios. While Mangold was not mentioned during the private press event revealing the new DC Universe movie and TV show slate, it appears he will be among the first of many directors to bring these projects to the screen.
"Swamp Thing" itself is expected to be the darkest movie of DC Studios' theatrical fare, with co-ceo Peter Safran teasing it as a look into the character's horrifying origins. The most common iteration of the character is biologist Alec Holland, who became the creature after a botched heist in his Louisiana laboratory. It is likely that Holland will be the film's focus, although other iterations of the character, such as Levi Kamei,...

The Snyderverse is dead. The Arrowverse is concluding. James Gunn and Peter Safran have seized the reins of the DC Universe, and on Monday they revealed their plan to bring order to a film-and-television brand that was haphazardly developed and, particularly on the film side, ineptly run. It is ambitious. It is still fairly sketchy on details. But the titles and characters they've elected to feature in the early going are, to this 49-year-old comic book fan's mind, indicative of grand, mythic thinking -- the creation of a new era of Gods and Monsters.
Given Gunn's bullishness on the epic, big-hearted quality of "The Flash" -- which he inherited from the previous regime and, it appears, could be used to spinoff/set-up his phase of TV and movie projects -- the outgoing steward of the "Guardians of the Galaxy" franchise seems eager to enforce a benevolent worldview via his newly attained perch.

Superhero films have become mainstream of mainstream cinema, but their stand up to widespread success hasn’t always been smooth. Some of the superhero movies like Tim Burton’s Batman (1989), Superman: The Movie (1978), and The Incredible Hulk live-action series (1977-1982) proved superheroes had screen potential.
Moreover, Live-action adaptations of comic book characters were popular Movie and television producers adapted comic book titles with varied degrees of success during the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
While some old-school directors may dislike comic book films for a variety of reasons, there is no denying their business potential at the box office including Captain America is one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most beloved heroes. However, these Marvel movies are released in chronological order which is also a correct order to watch all Marvel movies.

Only one episode into its first season, Swamp Thing has been canceled by the streaming service DC Universe.

Warner Bros. has not officially commented on the cancellation, but Deadline reports that the streaming service is being "reevaluated" following the "At&T acquisition of Time Warner."

As alluded in her tweet (see below), this won't be the first time Barbeau has explored the water-logged world of Swamp Thing, as she played Alicee Cabl in Wes Craven's 1982 Swamp Thing movie, based on the iconic character from the brilliant minds of Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson.
It's not yet known if she'll reprise her role as Alice Cable in the new series (Jennifer Beals will play Sheriff Lucilia Cable and Henderson Wade will play Matt Cable in the new show), but we'll keep Daily...

Our latest round up of genre DVDs and Blu-rays is here, with Wes Craven, Creepozoids, Dario Argento and more...
With the DC cinematic universe currently riding high on the coattails of Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins’ megahit antidote to the miserablism of messrs Bats and Soops, it would seem churlish to point out that company’s past failures. There has been a string of casting rumors recently for Warner Bros.' Justice League Dark film. Some of those actors included Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing, and Colin Farrell and Ewan McGregor being eyed for Constantine. Heroic Hollywood is now reporting that Ben Mendelsohn is being looked at for the role of the villain, Anton Arcane.
Created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, Anton Arcane is considered Swamp Thing's arch nemesis. Anton Arcane is a mad scientist obsessed with gaining immortality which has led him to create monstrous creatures known as "Un-Men" as well as other monstrous biogenetic experimentations involving the dead. Back in the day, Louis Jourdan portrayed Anton Arcane in the 1982 movie version of Swamp Thing for director Wes Craven. Jourdan also reprised the role in the 1989 sequel The Return of Swamp Thing.

“Batman” wasn’t the only comic book film that came out in the summer of 1989, “The Return of Swamp Thing” managed to beat it by over a month. That’s about all ol’ Swampy has over the Dark Knight, as most fanboys regard the offering as “The Barium Enema on the Bayou”. That’s a pretty fair description of the film, a low budget campfest where the best thing to hope for is that the end credits soon roll. When we last left Dr. Arcane, he’d died at the hands of Swamp Thing; but this is a comic book film, so fatal damage is akin to a paper cut. Arcane’s back to work, creating mutants and treating scientific ethics like it was purely a theoretical concept. He desperately needs to find a formula to reverse his aging process, and time is rapidly running out. When his stepdaughter Abby arrives on his doorstep,...

Is the New ‘Swamp Thing’ Movie Dead?
Director Vincenzo Natali has revealed that plans for a new 3D Swamp Thing movie may have bitten the dust.
Natali, who’s upcoming thriller, Splice, is due out June 4, expressed interest in making a movie based on the smelly, smelly DC Comics character in April.
“Unfortunately, there is no Swamp Thing movie in the works right now because of all the legal entanglements involved with that particular property,” Natali told MTV.
“I’m told it won’t happen any time soon. [Matrix producer] Joel Silver was going to do Swamp Thing, and he actually had a couple of scripts in, only to discover later on that the film rights were held by another company,” he went on to say.

Horror fanatics are still buzzing like chainsaws over the Academy Awards’ genre montage. Anywhere there could be a conversation about it online, there was one. Many were upset over the Twilight ‘tweens’ participation, as if their mere presence sent a message about the state of scary in Hollyweird, USA.
A few seemed happy, though, to just get a glimpse of their beloved Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 if only for a few seconds. But many called the selections generic and thoughtless, demanding the likes of Demons and TerrorVision instead (well, maybe not TerrorVision; that was just me).
How about Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer? Re-Animator? It’s Alive? Tombs of the Blind Dead? Coffin Joe? No list is perfect, but with a bit more care and a phone call to any one of us, the Oscars could have elevated that section into a real scream. Or maybe they...

The Actor who played the DC Comics character Swamp Thing in two films and a television series has died at the age of 72.
Dick Durock, a 6ft 5ins former Marine, passed away at his home in Oak Park, California, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, according to his official website.
Durock wore a latex bodysuit and make-up to play the monster in 1982's Swamp Thing directed by Wes Craven; its 1989 sequel The Return of Swamp Thing; and a subsequent Swamp Thing series that ran for 71 episodes from 1990 to 1993.
The actor appeared in dozens of other movies and TV series including the shows Star Trek, Knight Rider, The A-Team, Battlestar Galactica and The Incredible Hulk.
Fans had been hoping Durock would have a cameo role in the new 3D remake of Swamp Thing or at least be able to see his classic creation come to life on the big screen again.

Without a doubt the hardest part of our job reporting on the latest horror news is when one of our own is taken from us. We're very sad to inform you that Dick Durock, best known for his role as the "Swamp Thing", passed away last week at his home in Oak Park, California, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Durock, 72, was the subject of a fond tribute from Erin Blasko of the South Bend Tribune. Excerpts follow:
Born in South Bend in the late 1930s, Richard "Dick" Durock survived an early family tragedy to become a minor Hollywood player and fanboy idol for his role as Swamp Thing in the two feature films and television series of the same name.
Despite his success, he remained a humble Midwesterner at heart.
"He didn't get a big head. He was down-to-earth, very natural," Frank Varrichione, Durock's brother-in-law, said.

Dick Durock, who played the Swamp Thing in Swamp Thing (1982), The Return of Swamp Thing (1989) and Swamp Thing the TV series from the early '90s, died in Oak Park, CA last week at age 72. The six-foot-fiver from South Bend Indiana was a former Marine who found regular work as a Hollywood stuntman and working actor, but it was his role as mossy beast to Adrienne Barbeau's beauty for which he'll be most remembered. As for Mr. Thing, he lives on -- Akiva Goldsman is adapting Alan Moore's reimagining for the big screen.

We're terribly saddened to learn of the passing of actor/stuntman Dick Durock, most recognized by genre fans for his portrayal of Swamp Thing . Durock got his start making appearances in dozens of TV shows such as Battlestar Galactica , The A-Team , Santa Barbara , Knight Rider , Airwolf and many more. Personally, this writer remembers him scaring the hell out of me as the monster in the 1981 two part episode "Frye's Creature" of The Incredible Hulk . The actor went on to play the DC comics character Swamp Thing in Wes Craven's film, again in it's sequel The Return Of Swamp Thing and also for the Swamp Thing television series, which ran for 71 episodes. He was 72 years old.

Hollywood actor and stuntman Dick Durock, most famous for portraying the DC Comics anti-hero Swamp Thing in the original 1982 Wes Craven film, passed away recently after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Durock was 72.
Durock was a television staple for years before donning the green latex suit that made him famous, appearing on The Little House on the Prairie, Quincy M.E., The Incredible Hulk, The Rockford Files, and many other shows. While critically panned, Swamp Thing had a strong cult following and Durock went on to reprise the role of Dr. Alec Holland's mutated alter-ego in The Return of Swamp Thing (1989) and in 71 episodes of the Swamp Thing TV series that ran on the USA Network.
In one of Durock's final interviews, he confessed that he was not familiar with the character before getting the part.

Filmmakers always talk about how awkward it is filming sex scenes. Well guess what? Sometimes it's Equally as awkward watching them! When they're done well, they can be hot, but when placed in the wrong hands, a sex scene can be the worst viewing experience ever. I submit to you that the following 10 films contain some of the most gag inducing sex scenes ever caught on film (excluding pornography of course). Many of the films on this list are included for different reasons; some are brutal, some are awkward, and some are just plain gross. Get ready to have your mind And your genitals blown! These are my picks for the 10 most gag inducing sex scenes. (Caution: Some of the following images may be considered Nsfw.) 10. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) [1] I’ll admit it, this might be a bit of a stretch. However, I'm sure that any fan...
