Amazon is teasing Prime Video’s offerings for 2024 and released the first looks of projects starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, Camila Mendes and more.

The sizzle reel for the films and television series that will be available on Amazon’s streaming service showcased a first look at Road House. Gyllenhaal is featured at the beginning of the teaser, showing off his ripped body as he enters a fighting ring. Subsequently, he is then seen taking on a group of people in a parking lot.

“Ooooh, I just slapped you, are you alright?” Gyllenhaal is heard saying sarcastically after his hand makes contact with his adversary and before a scene where he is seen fighting the rest of them.

The actor has been added to the Season 3 cast of Fox’s The Cleaning Lady, Deadline reports. He will portray Dante, Ramona’s (Kate del Castillo) trusted lieutenant described as “intense and authoritative with a dangerous edge.” Focused on protecting the business, Dante “grows increasingly aggravated with Thony (Élodie Yung), who constantly undermines their operations.”

Hollywood star Jake Gyllenhaal looks muscular in the middle of what appears to be an underground fighting ring in the first look of ‘Road House’. Later, his character takes on a large group of adversaries in a dimly-lit parking lot. He hits an antagonist in the face and sarcastically asks, “Oo, I just slapped you, are you alright?” before proceeding to obliterate the rest of the group with his agile mixed martial arts skills, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The project is a remake of the 1989 action movie of the same name starring Patrick Swayze. In that film, a security guard protects a roadside bar in Missouri from a malicious local businessman. Details on the remake are scarce, but Gyllenhaal’s character is that of an ex-UFC fighter, and the film is set in Florida this time around.

Doug Liman directed the project, with Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, and UFC star Conor McGregor as co-stars.

Not everyone’s been keen on the news that there’s a remake of the much-loved 1980s hit Road House on the way. After all, the original – directed by the sublimely-named Rowdy Herrington – gave the late and much-missed Patrick Swayze one of his most famous roles.

According to the report, one of the reasons Silver was fired was due to rather heated discussions with people working for the studios over the films he was involved in, which were apparently bad enough to be considered verbal abuse. One of the things Silver was allegedly most upset over was the fact that Amazon is reportedly planning to release Road House straight-to-streaming through their Amazon MGM banner. Hollywood is, of course a buzzing hive of gossip at the best of times, but a particularly strange couple of morsels emerged from Tinseltown on the 30th November. According to a Variety report, veteran producer Joel Silver has been fired from Amazon, the mega corporation which owns film studio MGM.

Before he was (allegedly) ousted, Silver was working on Road House, a remake of the 1989 action thriller which he’d also produced, as well as Play Dirty, a crime thriller starring Mark Wahlberg. Anonymous sources told Variety that Silver was fired for being “verbally abusive” to a pair of female executives.

Named sources close to Silver, meanwhile – private investigator Anthony Pellicano and attorney Bryan Freedman – refute this story. Pellicano says, “The parting of the ways is amicable.

Variety has reported that Joel Silver has been fired from several projects being developed for Amazon, including Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake and Mark Wahlberg’s Play Dirty. Amazon, which is backing the feature, is in negotiations to tap Jules Daly to replace Joel Silver after the streaming giant parted ways with the veteran moviemaker over claims of verbal abuse.

Silver was steering Play Dirty, a feature seen as a comeback vehicle for both him and longtime collaborator Black, who is writing and directing for Amazon. Simultaneously, he also was producing the Doug Liman-directed remake of Road House, this one starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Road House had completed shooting and is deep in post-production, with expectations of hitting sometime next year. Play Dirty is expected to begin shooting next year.

Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment. An insider said Silver had completed work on Road House and was no longer involved in Play Dirty. Variety first reported the news of Silver’s departure.

American Sports Story, a new extension of Murphy’s “American Story” franchise, is a scripted anthological limited series focusing on a prominent event involving a sports figure and re-examines it through the prism of today’s world, telling that story from multiple perspectives. Paramount has signed “The Bourne Identity” filmmaker Doug Liman to direct the upcoming crime thriller “The Saint,” which will star Regé-Jean Page in a new imagining of the 1920s book series created by Leslie Charteris.

“The Saint” takes its name from the nickname of its protagonist, Simon Templar, a thief for hire who travels around the world serving as a modern day Robin Hood, stealing from the rich and protecting the powerless.

Charteris’ novels were adapted into a hit British 1960s TV series that became Roger Moore’s biggest claim to fame before he became James Bond. Paramount also adapted the books into a 1997 film starring Val Kilmer.

Exclusive: In a lucrative deal, Lionsgate has landed domestic distribution rights to Guy Ritchie’s (Sherlock Holmes) next project, which remains untitled, as principal photography wraps in Spain this week.

Lionsgate had previously picked up domestic rights to Ritchie’s upcoming World War II movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

The new action film, whose plot is being kept under wraps, sees Ritchie reteaming with Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home), who played the lead role in Ritchie’s recent war movie The Covenant, as well as Henry Cavill (Mission: Impossible – Fallout) and Eiza González (Baby Driver), both of whom star in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.

Terry Funk, the man Ric Flair called today, “A Great Wrestler, Entertainer, Unbelievably Fearless, And A Great Friend!” died Wednesday, according to Flair and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. He was 79.

In his tribute, Foley, a multiple time WWE champion, called Funk “the greatest wrestler I ever saw.”

“If you get the chance, look up a Terry Funk match or a Terry Funk promo, and give thanks that this incredible man gave so much, for so long, to so many,” Foley continued. “There will never be another like him. Pro wrestler Terry Funk has died, according to WWE and pro wrestler Mick Foley. Funk was 79 years old.

Along with wrestling, the highly respected performer worked in film, including multiple Sylvester Stallone projects as far back as 1978’s “Paradise Alley.” Funk also appeared in “Over the Top,” did stunts in “Rocky III” and choreographed the climactic fight in “Rocky V.”

Funk was also featured in the cult classic film “Road House” and Johnny Knoxville’s “The Ringer.” He also had TV roles on shows such as “Quantum Leap” and “Swamp Thing.”

Funk was best known in his later years for pioneering “hardcore” wrestling, which involves using weapons and sharp objects, such as barbed wire, to both simulate and cause actual damage in order to increase the drama in a match. This often involved copious amounts of bleeding. Funk was also infamous for wrestling multiple “retirement” matches before quickly coming back afterward.

The legendary Terry Funk, a WWE Hall of Fame, has passed away at 79. According to TMZ, follow wrestling superstar Ric Flair was the first to break the news via his Twitter account, with the Nature Boy writing, “In My Entire Life, I’ve Never Met A Guy Who Worked Harder. Companion, the sci-fi thriller from the team behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian, has found a call sheet’s worth of friends.

Lukas Gage, Megan Suri and Harvey Guillén have boarded the feature project that marks the directorial debut of scribe Drew Hancock.

The trio join The Boys star Jack Quaid in the story whose plot details are being kept hush-hush but is described as being a self-contained thriller.

Producers are BoulderLight’s Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz, Vertigo’s Roy Lee Zach Cregger. Cregger wrote and directed last year’s Barbarian which was produced by BoulderLight and Vertigo.

Details as to the film’s plot are under wraps. New Line acquired Companion in a competitive situation following the multi-studio bidding war for Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger’s new horror Weapons, which Cregger is producing alongside Vertigo’s Roy Lee and BoulderLight’s Raphael Margules & J.D. Lifshitz, as well as Miri Yoon.

Roberto Sneider, whose credits include “You’re Killing Me Susana” and “Dos Crímenes,” has been tapped to direct multi-generational family drama “Blood Knot,” which stars Michael Douglas and Cameron Douglas. When Jon Favreau made "Iron Man" in 2008, he, like many, assumed it might be the last time audiences ever saw the character on the big screen. Fresh off “The Covenant” and the long-delayed “Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre,” the suddenly prolific British genre filmmaker has a new project set up by Black Bear International. The new film, with a title and plot under-wraps, is being prepped for buyers at Cannes and will mark a class reunion of sorts. The big-budget actioner will star Jake Gyllenhaal of “The Covenant” and both Henry Cavill and Eiza González, who feature in the upcoming “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.”

Ritchie said “There’s something special that happens when you collaborate with the same partners regularly: you build a shorthand and a trust that lets everybody do their best work. Jake, Henry and Eiza are all astonishingly talented, committed, and engaging actors. This is going to be an action-packed movie that is both intellectually stimulating and physically exhilarating.”

Exclusive: Amid simmering unease over the impact of the writers’ strike, the upcoming Cannes market is getting a shot in the arm with the arrival of Guy Ritchie’s next project, a big-budget untitled action movie which will star Henry Cavill (Man Of Steel), Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal (Spider-Man: Far From Home) and Eiza González (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw).

Plot details and title are being kept (largely) under wraps but we hear the story, which is said to be laced with Ritchie’s trademark humor, will revolve around two extraction specialists who must plan an escape path for a high-level female negotiator. This will be one of — if not the — biggest-budget projects at the market with Black Bear International launching world sales today.

The movie will see Ritchie re-teaming with Cavill, Gyllenhaal and Gonzalez after recent collaborations. The new project comes hot on the heels of April’s U.

Movie producers usually take out cast insurance on their stars to protect themselves and the production against potential costs, should an accident or some other unfortunate event prevent the actors from filming. Though Tom Cruise has developed a reputation for doing his own death-defying stunts — to the point where he'll even casually stand on a flying plane for a simple promo — he's the exception to the rule. Producers and studios generally don't want stars on the outside of planes, even when their role calls for it, as was the case on "Point Break."

Jake Gyllenhaal has spoken about the creative process of working with British director Guy Ritchie that forced him to “let go”.

Gyllenhaal stars as a US army sergeant in Ritchie’s latest film, The Covenant, in which he and an Afghan interpreter take on Taliban forces.
