When Martin Short is robbing the bank and bites the pin on the hand grenade, his mask (nylon stocking) snaps open (a 'stocking runner') and exposes half of his face. Apparently, this was unplanned, even though it is a moment of comic genius. When Short was asked about that shot, he quoted director Francis Veber as saying "Sometimes God gives you a gift!"

Martin Short's character was previously played by Pierre Richard, who also appeared in La Chèvre (1981). Short once again played his role in the American remake, Pure Luck (1991).
Nick Nolte's character was previously played by Gérard Depardieu in the original film. Depardieu also appeared in Boudu (2005), while Nolte appeared in Down and Out in Beverly Hills (1986), as the American version of Depardieu's character.
