Norman Reedus has teased ‘Ballerina’ will have a “different fighting style” to ‘The Walking Dead’.The 55-year-old actor - who fronted AMC’s beloved drama series as Daryl Dixon - will be joining the ‘John Wick’ universe with its upcoming spin-off ‘Ballerina’, and has explained the film’s action sequences will differ greatly to those seen in ‘The Walking Dead’.During an interview with Collider, Reedus said: “It’s a different fighting style, totally. “‘The Walking Dead’s very sloppy, this is very choreographed and a lot of people put it together to make it safe and look spectacular. “I’m pretty good with weapons after all this time, but it’s always a math problem, even on the TV show. Everything’s math. The fighting’s math. You show an arrow, bend out of frame, you come up without the arrow digitally, and you show another arrow. There’s a math there.

I’m furious. They cut one of my fight scenes.”While he is disappointed his action sequence won’t be in the final cut of ‘Ballerina’, the ‘Lovejoy’ star added there was still “a fight scene with dialogue” between Winston and Eve.He continued: “My scenes are dialogue fight scenes. What’s the difference between a Springfield phone book and an elderly high school English teacher’s obituary?
When it comes to that of Simpsons creator Matt Groening’s late mother, the answer is “not a whole lot.”
On Sunday, a copy of Margaret Groening’s 2013 obit began making the rounds on The Simpsons subreddit, where fans found themselves fascinated with not only the cartoon matriarch’s rich life, but the slew of very familiar — and familial — names filling the page.
“Born Margaret Wiggum on March 23, 1919, in Chisolm, Minn., Margaret was 94 years old,” read the piece, taking care to note how she married her college sweetheart, Homer Groening, after her graduation in 1941.
But “Wiggum” and “Homer” were only the first Springfield residents’ names to pop up in the tribute to Margaret — who shockingly never used the “Marge” moniker, according to Oregon Live. “Besides Homer, Margaret was preceded in death by her oldest daughter,...

The feline octogenarian brings brooding star power and presence to Fuerteventura-set thriller
As fans of highbrow cult TV (Deadwood), schlock but addictive TV (Lovejoy), and connoisseurs of great character portrayal will attest, Ian McShane is a superb actor, one of his generation’s finest. Now 81 but a silver fox who moves with feline fluidity, and in possession of a fortune-generating rumble of a voice, he’s seldom out of work for long. But it’s rare to see him cast in a leading role; he’s usually the heavy, the antagonist, the sly puppeteer who’s been pulling the strings all along.
American Star is therefore a bit of a treat because it gives McShane fans the maximum amount of McShane time, casting him as yet another heavy but one with something of a soul.

After Di Jimmy Perez deliberately sacrificed his career in the name of justice (if not the law) and went off to pastures new with nurse Meg at the end of series seven, Shetland now has a new sheriff in town. Sort of.
While DS Tosh performs the duties of acting Di at Lerwick Police Station, detective Ruth Calder has come up from London in search of a missing witness in a serious crime case. It just so happens that Calder is an old Shetlander who left the islands as a teenager and was glad to be rid of the place, where she’s confronted by some old ghosts.
Ugly Betty and Agatha Raisin’s Ashley Jensen plays Calder, along with a new guest cast of Scottish stars as well as Shetland’s returning favourites. The latter includes Alison O’Donnell as DS Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh, Steven Robertson as DC Sandy Wilson,...

Unlike most other popular TV series, The Simpsons has avoided being spun off into counterpart shows, but one scrapped spin-off idea from the ‘90s could’ve been spectacular. The Simpsons poked fun at the notion of spin-offs in season 8, episode 24, “The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase,” with such ideas as a variety show starring the Simpson family and a detective show starring Chief Wiggum and Principal Skinner solving crimes in New Orleans. But a different spin-off premise was conceived during the making of an earlier episode, and it sounds like it would’ve been great.
After the success of season 7, episode 21, “22 Short Films About Springfield,” which gave a spotlight to various colorful characters around Springfield who are usually relegated to cameo appearances, the writers considered making a spin-off series about the lives of random Springfieldians. The proposed spin-off, simply titled Springfield, was pitched to Simpsons creator Matt Groening by former Simpsons showrunner Josh Weinstein.

Classic British drama Lovejoy, which starred American Gods’ Ian McShane, is set for another remake attempt after fledgling indie Blue Sky Pictures acquired the rights to the original novels.
The company, run by Nick Witkowski, has acquired the rights to the books, written by John Grant, under the pen name Jonathan Gash, from agent Lisa Moylett at Cmm Literary Agency. Grant wrote over 20 Lovejoy novels including The Judas Pair and The Vatican Rip.
Witkowski said that he planned to “update it for the 21st century for both the millions who followed the original and a whole new generation of viewers”.
The series ran for 71 episodes over six seasons on BBC One between 1986 and 1994. Originally adapted for television by Ian La Frenais and distributed by Fremantle, the show followed roguish antiques dealer Lovejoy, played by McShane, who had a reputation for recognizing exceptional items as well as distinguishing genuine antiques from fakes.

Ian McShane will still pause and watch an episode of “Deadwood” when it pops up while flipping through channels. “And then I’d finish up, smiling to myself, ‘it’s a really good show!’ It was a great show, a terrific show,” McShane said of the HBO drama, which ran for three seasons from 2004 to 2006.
Now, “Deadwood” is back — in the form of a 2-hour movie, set to premiere May 31 on HBO. The “Deadwood” movie takes place more than a decade later, as a statehood celebration brings back many of the series’ most memorable characters.
“It’s a love letter to the old ‘Deadwood,'” he said. “I think they found the connecting tissue by making it statehood day. There’s a reason a lot of the characters come back.”
McShane said he enjoyed the opportunity to revisit his iconic “Deadwood” character, Al Swearengen — the foul-taking owner of the town’s Gem saloon.

“American Gods” might be one of the most exciting series launching this spring. Adapted by Bryan Fuller and Michael Green from Neil Gaiman’s novel, the supernatural drama leans way into the weird for a highly imaginative tale about Shadow (Ricky Whittle), a former convict who finds himself drawn into a strange world of old gods and new by Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane).

As the terrific American Gods TV series finally arrives on screens, here’s our chat with showrunner Bryan Fuller…
I met Bryan Fuller to talk American Gods in early December 2016 when he and the rest of the world were reeling from the fallout of the Us election. It was an uncanny experience, Fuller said, being in post-production on a show about immigration, religious belief and opportunistic power grabs while the Clinton V Trump circus played out. Inadvertently, his and Michael Green’s fantasy drama adapted from Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel had taken on real-world significance that none of them had seen coming.

Knowing this interview would be embargoed until the series launch in five months’ time, I joked that we had no clue what kind of world we’d be facing then.

With just over thirty years worth of screen time, there are plenty of memorable moments in Grange Hill. From its inception in February 1978 the programme proved both entertaining and controversial. It tackled many difficult subjects head-on: bullying, vandalism, racism, censorship, shop-lifting, school uniform protest, teenage pregnancy and - most famously of all - drugs. However, every now and again it would attempt to give viewers a break from the everyday and head off on a day trip or weekend excursion.

After overcoming various hurdles during development, Neil Gaiman’s celebrated fantasy tale is headed to the small screen. Starz’ TV adaptation of American Gods hails from Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, who’s set to showrun and direct several episodes, and today brings word of the latest casting addition. Deadwood alum Ian McShane climbs aboard this epic series as the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday.
Gaiman’s sprawling novel takes place across America, following the adventures of ex-con Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) after he’s sprung from prison by a mysterious man. That figure is Mr. Wednesday, who enlists Moon into his world to help him in a battle between ancient and modern gods. Casting McShane in the role ought to appease fans of the novel, because let’s face it, he always delivers. Here’s Gaiman’s enthusiastic response to the news:

Ian McShane is set to star in Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman's fantasy novel American Gods. He will take on the role of Mr. Wednesday. The character is described as a "powerful and charismatic — a Casanova of sorts — who is a con man and an incarnation of All-Father Odin, who's traveling America recruiting his fellow forgotten deities to wage an epic battle against the new American gods." This is a role that is perfect for McShane and he's going to be awesome as this character. In a statement talking about McShane's involvement with the series, Gaiman said:
"When you write a beloved character (beloved with, or despite, or because of all his faults) like Mr. Wednesday, you get to watch the Internet trying to cast the role. I've seen a hundred names suggested, but few make me grin like Ian McShane does. I've already been lucky enough to have...

Super-stylised revenge flick John Wick was a refreshing throwback to blood-soaked '80s actioners - and now its sequel, John Wick 2, has revealed Ian McShane is back for another movie.
Ian McShane played the "enigmatic owner of the Continental Hotel" - the hotel reserved only for assassins, because why not? - and was seen for just a precious few moments in the first film.
Fingers crossed the follow-up to the critically-acclaimed first film will feature plenty more from McShane, whose on-screen charisma has recently been wasted on so-so fare like Hercules.
Thank goodness, then, that Game of Thrones has also seen fit to make us of McShane's talents, with the former Lovejoy star set to appear in season six of HBO's dragon drama.
John Wick is currently sitting pretty at 85% on Rotten Tomatoes - "certified fresh!" - and now that all the ticket receipts has been added up, it...

Meet some of the best directors working today, who haven't gone down the blockbuster movie route...
Ever find it a bit lame when the same big name directors get kicked around for every high profile project? Christopher Nolan, Jj Abrams, maybe the Russo Brothers? With so much focus on blockbuster films these days, getting a major franchise job seems like the main acknowledgement of success for a filmmaker. And yes, both the financial and creative rewards can be great. But there are plenty of other directors out there, doing their own thing, from art house auteurs to Dtv action specialists.
Here are 25 examples.

The barkeeps and patrons of Matt’s Saloon in Prescott, Ariz. probably thought it was just another normal Friday night, but Sept. 29, 1989 — 26 years ago today — was not another normal night. What made it a rather unusual evening for the sleepy town was the presence of a rock star in Matt’s Saloon: Bruce Springsteen was playing an unannounced performance at the bar. He rolled into town on a motorcycle with some buddies and wound up in a jam session with the house band. Springsteen, wearing a leather vest and a bandana around his neck, played “I’m On Fire” from his 1984 album “Born In The U.S.A.,” but when the band asked him to play “Pink Cadillac,” the rock star said he couldn’t remember the words to his hit song, recalled Denny Orr, the rhythm guitarist for the house band. Orr also said that things “went nuts” in the bar...

However, Entertainment Weekly has claimed that while McShane is not expected to appear on screen much, his character will be of huge importance to the season's story arc.
McShane's recent TV roles also include Ray Donovan and American Horror Story: Asylum, while he also played the notorious pirate Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, starring opposite Johnny Depp and Penélope Cruz.

Jason-Isaacs-in-Case-Histories
Within the crowded field of British detective shows, Case Histories truly stands out as one of the very best contemporary dramas in recent years. It’s not as gloomy as Vera, not as gory as Luther, and it lacks the frivolity of Midsomer Murders. What it does offer is a realistic central character played brilliantly by Harry Potter bad-guy Jason Isaacs. Jackson Brodie (Isaacs) is broody but he’s positively jovial when compared with Wallander. He’s something of a lady’s man and could be described as Scotland’s answer to Jim Bergerac only with a penchant for cigarettes rather than booze. Brodie has his demons and he’s not immune to the odd cock-up but he’s a good guy at heart and he usually unravels the perplexing mysteries that land in his lap.
Case Histories ran for two seasons each comprised of three feature length mysteries.

A reboot of BBC antique comedy Lovejoy could be in the works.
Radio Times reports that Tony Jordan, who created Hustle and Life on Mars, is in the early stages of developing the remake.
It's believed that Jordan is using the original Lovejoy novels as source material and that the series, if picked up, is likely to be a co-production with his company Red Planet Pictures.
Lovejoy aired on BBC One for six series between 1986 and 1994. It starred Ian McShane as the swindling antiques dealer.
Downton Abbey's Phyllis Logan appeared as love interest Lady Jane, while Dudley Sutton played Lovejoy's friend Tinker and Chris Jury his assistant Eric Catchpole.
Malcolm Tierney, who died at the age of 75 in 2014, played rival antiques dealer Charlie Gimbert.
