Mumbai, April 15: From the time she sang "Ghar jayegi tar jayegi doliyaan chadh jayegi" for Gulzar in "Khushboo", Asha Bhosle has shared a very special rapport with her Gulzar bhai who has been named for the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She feels it has gone to the "very deserving artist".

"When I see how far he has come in his life, I feel happy. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award honours a very deserving artiste this year," she said expressing great joy at Gulzar's latest recognition.

"As I speak to you, I remember all the beautiful songs Gulzar bhai has written for me - 'Mera kuch samaan' in 'Ijaazat', 'Yeh saaye hain' in 'Sitara',.

Veteran lyricist and filmmaker Gulzar, who last wielded the megaphone in 1999 for "Hu Tu Tu", plans to return to direction but is not sure when. "I have a few subjects in mind, but they aren.t finished yet. I need to see when I want to make a film now, nothing (is) decided but I will direct," Gulzar told Ians. The 74-year-old has directed critically acclaimed films like "Parichay", "Angoor", "Ijaazat" and "Maachis" among others.

She is the younger sister of India's nightingale and melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, but that does not mean that the versatile playback singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Asha Bhonsle cannot hold her own when it comes to her chosen profession.

With more than 12,000 songs in 18 different languages under her belt, this young-in-spirit singer is set to celebrate her 77th birthday Wednesday, even as good wishes keep pouring in from around the country and the world.

Her legion of fans remains undisturbed even though she has spent a whopping 60 years in the film industry. Over the years, she has not only dispelled her "cabaret singer" title but also gone on to sing in almost every genre of music, be it light, pop, ghazal or qawwali. She has worked with music directors like Khayyam, Shankar Jaikishan, Ravi, O.P. Nayyar, but she reached the zenith of singing career when she started singing for the maverick composer R.
