Following his appearance in the first season of the Daredevil: Born Again revival-of-sorts (premiering Tuesday, March 4), Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle aka The Punisher will headline a Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation à la Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

“It’s like a shotgun blast of a story,” Marvel Television chief Brad Winderbaum told EW.com, “but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story.”

It is a movie that does not follow the established rules of werewolf movies because it was created in a time before those rules were written. Many, if not most, of the most notable and enduring films of the subgenre deal in externalizing the internal struggles of the young using the metaphor of the beast within. Most of these characters are breaking away from their parents and childhoods, seeking to make their own way in the world.

Andrew Garfield is denying rumors that he is set to appear in “Spider-Man 4” with Tom Holland to reprise his role from the “Amazing Spider-Man” films and 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

In a GQ UK interview published Thursday, the actor acknowledged that fans might be skeptical of his denial, given his past history with Marvel movies.

“I’m going to disappoint you. Yeah, no,” Garfield said when asked about the “Spider-Man 4” rumors. “But I know no one’s going to trust anything I say from now on.”

In 2021, Garfield followed Marvel’s notoriously strict code of omertà and repeatedly said he wouldn’t be in “Spider-Man: No Way Home” — but then surprised audiences by appearing alongside fellow Spider-Men Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire in the film, which went on to earn $1.9 billion worldwide.

Regarding potential future franchise roles, Garfield explained he’d consider it if it felt meaningful and enjoyable.

The Multiverse Saga has been an extensive chapter for Marvel Studios, full of highs and lows. Although a lot of people have been harsh on the franchise due to some of its shortcomings, it is understandable to see why the studio struggled so much this time around; because when you introduce more characters, storylines, and universes, there are far more opportunities to get it right... and also far more to get it wrong. And boy did they introduce plenty of new characters.

Among the new additions this saga have been Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Agatha Harkness, Monica Rambeau, Moon Knight, Layla El-Faouly, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Wolverine and more. It's all been about introducing a new generation of heroes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, adapting characters the franchise had not yet managed to adapt, and presenting them all as major players in the Multiverse Saga.

The black-and-white Halloween Special really was a first for the franchise, paying homage to the classic Universal monster movies with its noirish style, creepy atmosphere and heightened levels of violence.

As Marvel continues to expand its cinematic universe, several types of magic now exist in the MCU. Most have their own visual designs that allow them to be distinguished from the rest, while their abilities and power levels are typically unique to each other. But what makes them different, and which is the most powerful magic in the MCU?

Over the years, the importance of magic has changed quite a bit in the MCU. Not only is it the primary weapon of Doctor Strange and the Masters of the Mystic Arts, but its also become an important plot device in a number of Marvel projects. In addition to the Doctor Strange movies, its been a factor in the Thor franchise, WandaVision, and Eternals.

La Mquina follows an aging boxer who, after finding it harder to schedule matches, gets involved with a criminal organization. Esteban's manager gets him tied up with a plot where, if Esteban doesn't lose his next match, he and his manager will be killed. Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for “It’s What’s Inside,” now streaming on Netflix.

Writer and director Greg Jardin’s debut feature, “It’s What’s Inside,” is a body-swapping mystery. Yet Jardin had his own out-of-body experience the day the movie started an intense bidding war at Sundance in January.

“It’s still surreal now,” he says. “We made the movie in a bit of a bubble, $2.5 million independent, just with hopes that someone would buy it at a festival. Getting into Sundance alone was awesome. And then our first offer came in 24 hours after our premiere, and the offer started at $5 million, which was double our budget. I was like, ‘Man, this is incredible.'”

But the buzz around Park City kept growing.

“It was my first experience,” he says. “With any of that stuff, there’s essentially a bidding war that lasted about 36 hours. I was in meetings with our financiers and sales agent.

If there’s one thing movies have taught us it’s you should never, ever be alone in a house. Heck, even with other people. You’re just going to get haunted, or you’re going to get slashed, or at the very least your place will be an absolute mess in the morning and you’ll have to tell your parents what really happened. So go outside, dang it! You’re more likely to star in a romantic comedy if you’re not trapped in an isolated mansion on a dark and gloomy night, making side-eyes at your old college friends who secretly hate you or want you dead.

Then again, if you do stay inside, you might as well watch Greg Jardin’s engrossingly mean-spirited “It’s What’s Inside,” which takes the familiar setup — we sure are alone in this house and nothing bad could possibly happen to us...

Premiering at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, It’s What’s Inside seemed to come a bit out of nowhere. Despite its prime positioning in the Midnight section during the first weekend of the fest, the high-concept thriller features no big stars and no huge special effects. It popped off the screen in a big way, delighting festivalgoers and landing a big sale to Netflix only days later. Written and directed by Greg Jardin, this is a deceptively small film that relies heavily on old-fashioned tropes: an engaging mystery, some nifty editing, and a good score.

Ahead of this Friday’s release on Netflix, I spoke with Jardin about his long road to directorial success, the fast-paced aesthetic built from years of making music videos, working with a completed score on set, and pushing for Giallo-inspired lighting alongside grounded character motivations.

I agree with Marvel Studios' Brad Winderbaum that the best Ghost Rider to bring into the MCU would be one we've never seen in live-action before. Ghost Rider's MCU debut has been heavily rumored for quite some time, especially since Marvel Studios has been putting more emphasis on supernatural stories and characters in recent years. The cult streaming service is showcasing an impressive roster of J-horror favourites, werewolf scares, supernatural frights, and even curated picks from horror maestro Michael Dougherty. Titled “ARROWeen,” this fright-filled month offers something for every horror fan, from gory slasher remakes to subtle psychological terrors.

Among the biggest draws is J-Horror Rising, a collection of seven iconic Japanese horror films that gained massive popularity at the turn of the millennium. The world of Daredevil is about to get more violent than ever as Marvel Comics officially unleashes Hell and Elektra's fury in Hells Kitchen. Elektra's bloody new limited series as Daredevil will start in January 2025 and take the Woman Without Fear to a fight so brutal that the series has to be polybagged in comic book stores. The series red band label gives the fierce hero freedom to really bring the pain.

When Elektra officially became Daredevil, she agreed to leave killing behind and live as a hero in Matt Murdocks name. However, it appears that Marvel is eager to see the Woman Without Fear get her hands dirty again as she gets her own R-rated series where she takes on a grisly new threat.

Murder Is An Art!

As The Multiverse Saga marches towards its end with Avengers: Secret Wars, the rumor mill has reported that the MCU might be looking to dive into its horror and supernatural characters after it wraps up its current saga. This has been cited as the reason by the Blade project is taking so much time to get off the ground, given that Marvel Studios allegedly wants the character to be the face of this upcoming saga.

There are some learnings from the Multiverse Saga that the MCU should carry over into the Supernatural Saga. There are also some very fun projects that can make their way into this phase of the MCU. However, newly established characters who are supposed to get their chance to be in the spotlight might fall through the cracks, such that the focus shifts towards other characters that are more horror-oriented in the MCU.

The Traitors won for best reality competition series at the 2024 Emmys. This win for its second season comes after its host, Alan Cumming, broke RuPaul Charles’ 8-year streak as best reality or competition program host at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend.

“Thank you so much everybody. Thank you so much to the Academy. We are so grateful because we are a new show and you guys, when you like something so much you tend to stick to it—which is a good quality, so we appreciate it all the more,” said Cumming while accepting the award.

James Darren, the former teen idol and pop singer who played the dreamy surfer Moondoggie in three Gidget movies before starring on television on The Time Tunnel and T.J. Hooker, died Monday. He was 88.

Darren died in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, his son Jim Moret, a correspondent for Inside Edition, told The Hollywood Reporter. He had entered the hospital for an aortic valve replacement but was deemed too weak to have the surgery; he went home but had to return.

“I always thought he would pull through,” Moret said, “because he was so cool. He was always cool.”
