Outside of Robotech, my first real introduction to the world of anime was a film called Black Magic M-66, which was released in 1987. I remember watching it at a friends house when I was around 13 years old, and I was completely blown away! I had never seen anything like it before. I was used to the Saturday morning cartoons and Disney stuff, but seeing an animated film like this just melted my brain. From that moment on I was always on the hunt for great anime. It obviously led me to Akira, which was actually the second badass anime film that I watched.

The official website for the comedy television anime Sparrow’s Hotel began streaming a promotional video which has been running in bookstores throughout Japan. Check it out below: The video introduces Sayuri Satō (voiced by Minori Chihara), the new front desk worker at the Sparrow’s Hotel – “the closest hotel to Heaven.” Her special features are her large breasts and her assassination skills (yeah… well, what did you expect from anime?). The North American licensing company Maiden Japan announced on Tuesday that it acquired the original video anime Black Magic M-66. The company will release the anime in conjunction with home video distributor Section23 Films on English-subtitled DVD on July 9th, 2013 and in digital formats. Manga creator Masamune Shirow (Ghost in the Shell) co-directed and wrote the screenplay for the two-episode video anime based on his own manga. Hiroyuki Kitakubo (Roujin Z, Blood: The Last Vampire) co-directed with Shirow, and also adapted the character designs for animation.
