Hearties have been anticipating the Wcth Season 12 premiere in January, ever since Hallmark made the announcement during Santa Tell Me. This Christmas movie was the big When Calls The Heart reunion between Erin Krakow and Daniel Lissing. Therefore, it was the perfect opportunity to make this big announcement.

Exclusive: Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) and Betty Gabriel (Get Out) have been set to star in Twilight of the Dead, the next feature from The Call and The Machinist director Brad Anderson.
The George A. Romero estate is teaming up with L.A.-based financier-producer Roundtable on the “seventh and final installment” of the seminal Living Dead franchise. Fortitude International will present the project at next week’s American Film Market, with production being lined up for March.

1792 was a turbulent time in Paris. As the French Revolution raged outside the dilapidated walls of the Tour du Temple, Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette faced an uncertain future behind those walls. Once the most powerful monarchs in Europe, ruling over the opulent court at Versailles, they had been deposed and cast into an isolated prison to await their fate.
Director Gianluca Jodice’s historical drama “The Flood” shines a light on this difficult period in the lives of the hapless royal couple. Focusing on their imprisonment in the dreary Tower ahead of their executions, the film is based on accounts from the journal of Louis’ valet, Jean-Baptiste Cléry, played in the film by Fabrizio Rongione.
Gone are the lavish parties and designer dresses of Versailles. In their dank cell in the Tower, Louis (Guillaume Canet) and Marie Antoinette (Mélanie Laurent) struggle to adjust to their new circumstances with dignity.

In life and in cinema, Pedro Almodóvar likes to talk about death. When people aren’t losing their faculties in his films––like going blind (Folle… folle… fólleme Tim!), falling into comas (Talk to Her), or falling apart altogether (The Skin I Live In)––they dwell on the afterlife or are already there (Volver), though never is it a cause for undue solemnity. Speaking in a New Yorker profile in 2016, the director recalled watching the local woman in his hometown of Calzada chatting as they tended to their families’ graves. “Death disappeared,” Almodóvar explained, “because the important thing was the flowers, the conversations.”
That sentiment is alive and well in the director’s latest death film. His first-ever English-language feature, adapted from Sigrid Nunez’s novel What Are You Going Through mostly in structure only, The Room Next Door stars Tilda Swinton as the terminally ill named Martha who decides...

Elegant and confounding in equivalent measure, Pedro Almodóvar’s first English-language feature could’ve used a finishing touch from an American script supervisor. Adapted from Sigrid Nunez’s novel “What Are You Going Through” — and the second mounting of a Nunez book this fall season alongside David Siegel and Scott McGehee’s “The Friend” — “The Room Next Door” is mannered in a way that doesn’t feel purposeful, stilted and stiff where it should be sumptuous, and aches of the feeling that the Spanish auteur passed his sensibility, and his script, through a direct-to-English transferal that lacks the nuances that, say, a bilingual literary translator would bring to a text brought from Europe to the United States. Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, playing longtime friends who reunite as the latter decides to give up stage-three cancer treatment to choose euthanasia instead, move and speak as if in different films.

Very few filmmakers have the distinction of creating a classic on their first effort. But John Huston, one of the greatest screenwriters and directors of the 20th century, did just that in 1941 with “The Maltese Falcon” and went on to create many classics by inventing, reinventing and reinvigorating genres.
Huston was born on August 5, 1906, in Nevada, Missouri. His father was the great actor Walter Huston, and young John developed an interest in the stage at a young age watching his father perform in vaudeville. He was a sickly child with an enlarged heart and kidney ailments but eventually overcame that to drop out of school at the age of 14 to become a professional boxer.
As a young adult, Huston wrote and sold several short stories, and made his way to Hollywood when “talking pictures” created a demand for writers. He took a short hiatus from Hollywood after the car he...

How does one form a meaningful relationship in the modern world? And once you do, how do you keep that relationship from dying, or turning into something else entirely? The Dead Thing is a supernatural story set in the modern online dating scene. It is an examination of how we make (or fail to make) connections in a technology-fueled world, and what can happen when those connections become too intense. This film comes from Elric Kane and is his first feature as a solo director.
Co-written with Webb Wilcoxen, The Dead Thing opens on Alex (Blu Hunt), a lonely woman trapped in the internet dating scene of LA. She splits her time between a colorless job as a document scanner and swiping through her dating app. She regularly goes out with men, hoping that one of them will be the right match. But none of the men that she meets are terribly interesting.

If Universal Pictures decides to drag out the body of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg’s 2004 horror-comedy masterpiece Shaun of the Dead from its resting place and give it the unholy franchise undeath treatment, all the vinyl pressings of the Batman soundtrack in the world won’t be able to stop them.
Wright and Pegg’s landmark Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy concluded over a decade ago, and the latter actor/writer has been clear in the ensuing years that he’s moved on from playing different flavors of the action-comedy leading man role in quippy, science fiction-y cult classics. Even though American English comes from across the pond, many discrepancies have risen between the two languages over the years, whether it's the meaning of certain words in different contexts or the pronunciation of words like "herbs" and "aluminum." There are also more amusing cases when words like "fanny" have a much different meaning in the United Kingdom. So when a movie is being imported into the United States from the UK, that can occasionally create some challenges with a film's dialogue, especially if a particular line is intended to be a punchline and the words in question have different meaning in the U.S. That's exactly why Edgar Wright's quintessential horror comedy "Shaun of the Dead" (which is still influencing movies today) had to change just one line for American audiences.

Viggo Mortensen’s The Dead Don’t Hurt was certainly regarded as a masterpiece when it was initially released. The film brought about a completely fresh approach to the traditional genre of Western flicks. Throughout Hollywood, it is well known that the Western genre has its set roots. It is known for its knack for following unwritten rules, and almost every other project in the genre is similar in one way or another.

However, Mortensen’s 2023 film took a completely different approach to the genre, and interestingly enough, it worked very well. During an interview, he actually revealed the two key factors that he thought to be fundamentally different from others of their kind and even talked about how he wanted to push boundaries and add more representation.

Viggo Mortensen’s The Dead Don’t Hurt is Unique

In my latest video review, I sit down to review the latest film from The Dead director Howard J Ford, Dark Game, which stars Ed Westwick, Andrew P Stephen and Natalya Tsvetkova. After having reviewed a few of Ford’s movies to date It is always good to see what he’s is up to. But what’s the verdict?
A determined detective is in a race against time to stop a twisted game show on the dark web, where captives are forced to compete for their lives.

George A. Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead is in the public domain, so a lot of people have made their own sequels and remakes to the film over the decades, put out their own releases of it, colorized it, animated it, etc. It’s a property that has never been dormant… but these days it seems like its undead ghouls are livelier than ever. The George A. Romero Foundation and the Cinedigm-backed Bloody Disgusting are making a podcast sequel called The Dead. Nikyatu Jusu is directing a film sequel that will be released by MGM. Greg Nicotero is planning to make a movie about the making of Night of the Living Dead. Last week, we shared the news that a Night of the Living Dead follow-up called Festival of the Dead – which is coming our way from twin directors Jen and Sylvia Soska – is set to be...

Escape opens with a massive burst of adrenaline. A woman running for her life across a desert landscape trips and impales herself on a sun-bleached piece of wood. Her pursuer leaves her for dead because, as he tells his boss, “She’s too damaged. Even if she lives, she’d never sell.” He should have made sure she was dead because as he looks at a map, she comes up behind him and beats his head in with a rock. Then she stabs him with his own knife and, just to make sure, puts the pickaxe in the back of his truck through his chest.

Bob Dylan’s 2024 tour kicked off less than a week ago, and he’s already pulling out some big surprises. They began March 1 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when he covered the 1956 Jimmy Rogers song “Walking by Myself” for the first time in his career. And they continued last night when he played Johnny Cash’s “Big River” for the first time since a guest appearance with The Dead in 2003.

DarkGame, the latest thriller about dark doings on the Dark Web, opens with the masked figure known as The Presenter overseeing the murder of a bound woman in a manner chosen by the highest bidder. By the way, he chooses a chainsaw as the instrument of her demise. That’s followed by Detectives Ben Jacobs and Cathy Burnette rescuing two missing children from traffickers.
Ben has barely gotten home to his pregnant wife however when they’re called back into the station. The woman we saw killed in the opening scene had vanished without a trace a couple of weeks earlier. The footage is the only clue they have as to who is responsible, but the people behind it know how to cover their tracks.

What to watch this Weekend (Dec 22-25): “Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom,” “Migration,” “Trolls Band Together,” “Saltburn,” “South Park: Not Suitable For Children,” “Fargo,” and More ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
This week, we have more than eight significant movies for consideration. Amid this cinematic abundance, I was compelled to narrow the selection to three noteworthy films. It’s not our usual practice to recommend multiple international movies, but this week offers an exception.
Now, let’s delve into the highlights for this week. “Rebel Moon” is making its streaming debut, promising an exciting watch. Disney has recently launched a new series, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” adding to the entertainment roster. Furthermore, the conclusion of “A Murder at the End of the World” is now available for binge-watching, offering a perfect opportunity for those eagerly waiting.

Variety reports that our friends at Cineverse’s Bloody Disgusting are expanding their multimedia horror brand with a new publishing imprint called Bloody Press – and among the first projects on the Bloody Press agenda are novelizations of the films Terrifier, Terrifier 2, and Terrifier 3. The Cineverse Podcast Network, which has a Bloody FM podcast banner, will also be launching a new podcast that’s dedicated to the Terrifier franchise.
Beyond the realm of Art the Clown, Cineverse will also be producing a new scripted audio series called Dead Space: Deep Cover, “which will follow a journalist searching for her missing sister who joined a Unitologist church.” That show is a collaboration with Electronic Arts.
Bloody Press will be publishing the Terrifier 2 novelization first – which makes sense, because the movie was a massive hit when it was released last year, earning $15.1 million at the box office on a budget of $250,000. Written by Tim Waggoner,...

Exclusive: In a major shakeup at Miramax, CEO Bill Block will exit the company this week, a move that will come as soon as Tuesday when his contract expires. It does not look like there was much if any negotiation on a new deal for Block, which raises questions of exactly which areas the multi-faceted company will lean into.
Block’s exit comes at a time when he has been a catalyst for a large amount of film business. Block had been appointed CEO in 2017.
Owned 51% by beIN, and 49% by Paramount Global, Miramax had transformed from the days when its value resided in the film library built back in the day by Bob and Harvey Weinstein. It has become a prolific generator of original projects, with some based on library IP. Back when Block was appointed, the company had $150 million in debt and a high overhead that was pared by...

In May, The George A. Romero Foundation announced it was looking for writers. After several months of deliberation, the foundation and Bloody Disgusting are excited to announce their selection. Five selected writers will create their own standalone four-episode mini-seasons set within the universe of The Dead. Joining the production team for the first season are:
Hannah Schooner, a writer, actor, singer and snake mom! When she’s not recording audiobooks, you can find Hannah working on her podcast, Dungeons & Drimbus, or taking care of her eight snakes.
Nick Harkins is a new screenwriter who spends most of his time riding a bicycle or doing film photography. Nick hasn’t been by a horror movie for awhile (1+ months).
Jeremy Ellett is a writer and fiction podcast producer in the middle of nowhere, Texas. You can listen to their work on podcasts like Two Flat Earthers Kidnap a Freemason, and The Subjective Truth.

It’s taken a few more years than expected but 10/31 Part III has finally arrived and it wastes no time getting down to business with several faux trailers that range from old-school Eurosleaze, “The Slaughter”, to “Night of the Halloweenies” a parody of Night of the Demons, zombies lay siege to a radio station in “Radio Tower Road” and a pair of slashers “Candy Killer” and my favourite, the 70s grindhouse styled “A Stranger’s Treat”.
As with the original and the first sequel, 10/31 Part III begins with Jennifer Nangle appearing in her Malvolia persona and giving us an introduction to what we’re about to see.

In January, the George A. Romero Foundation teamed up with Bloody Disgusting to create a new scripted audio series, The Dead. Today, The Dead is seeking aspiring writers to create stories in the spirit of George A. Romero. We’re looking for new and original character-driven stories focusing on the survivors of a zombie outbreak!
Stories should focus on the human experience and conflicts following a cataclysmic event, with the ever-present threat of an overwhelming zombie population. Pitches should not be tied to any previously established characters, locations, or intellectual property.
Writers can apply at PitchTheDead.com. Writers will be asked to pitch their story in the form of a Drabble (a 100-word micro-fiction) and upload previously written samples of their work. If selected, writers will be commissioned to write a 90-180 page screenplay, and will be invited to participate in an educational experience, including a writing mentorship and a...

Exclusive: Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) is to star in and exec-produce historical-fiction podcast series The Foxes of Hydesville, which will also feature Mckenna Grace (Handmaid’s Tale), Phoebe Tonkin (Babylon) and Christina Brucato (The Menu).
The nine-episode series is inspired by the true story of the Fox sisters, whose controversial, supposed talent for speaking to the dead inadvertently helped spawn the religion of modern Spiritualism.
The three sisters heralded from Rochester, New York, and found success as mediums in the 19th Century. The two younger sisters used “rappings” to convince their older sister and others that they were communicating with spirits. Their older sister then took charge of them and managed their careers. After finding success, in 1888 one sister confessed that their rappings had been a hoax and publicly demonstrated their method. Their reputation was ruined and in less than five years they were all dead.
