Chef and TV personality Matty Matheson never thought he would be an actor, much less one on a viral, Emmy-winning series like “The Bear.”
Matheson said during Mythical Kitchen’s “Last Meals,” hosted by Josh Scherer, that he is “very happy” his friends, the siblings (series co-creator) Christopher Storer and (series culinary producer) Courtney “Coco” Storer, “let me into their world.”
“When I was a kid, it’s not like I would have dreamed of being famous or being a movie star or on television. I never dreamed of any of this,” Matheson said in the below clip while promoting his cookbook “Soups, Salad, Sandwiches.”
He continued, “I never dreamed of being here, certainly. But we’re here, and I’m just chock-full of gratitude. Every day is truly an amazing thing. There’s quite a lot of privilege being here and living the life we get to live and...

Gremlins may have stopped at only 2 movies and a recent animated TV show, but a lot of its imitators went on to make a killing in the sequel market. Sure, we had one offs like Munchies from Roger Corman and Goobers from the mind of Charles Band which should have rightfully stayed one and done but others wanted in on that franchise action. The Gate would have 2 entries as would Hobgoblins. Troll would get a few sequels, kinda, if you want to go down the rabbit hole of strange Italian sequels in name only that are just called that to capitalize on the profits of other movies and Ghoulies would somehow, miraculously, get 4 films although if I’m being honest, I actually enjoy watching that series. Critters also had 4 (initially) but has a much stronger legacy in terms of enjoyment and interesting background including the fact that even though it came out after Gremlins,...

Being a television personality is a lot different than playing a television character. For someone like cooking TV personality Matty Matheson, the latter can be terrifying.
“Acting scares the shit out of me,” said Matheson, actor and executive producer on FX’s acclaimed restaurant dramedy series “The Bear.” On the show, Matheson plays Neil Fak, better known simply as Fak, the childhood friend of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and Carmy’s cousin Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Fak is sensitive and sweet and sometimes spacey, but does his best in both seasons to keep first the Beef and then the Bear running as a handyman and server.
But even before joining “The Bear” in 2021, Matheson always had several irons in the culinary fire, running restaurants like Cà Phê Rang, Prime Seafood Palace, Rizzo’s House of Parm and Fonda Balam, all under the umbrella of his hospitality company Our House. He’s...

On the Hulu hit show The Bear, set in the anarchic disarray of a malfunctioning Italian sandwich shop in Chicago, Matty Matheson plays Neil Fak, a handyman who never handles food. In real life, Matheson is the only trained chef among the cast. The Bear centers on “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), an uncompromising culinary prodigy struggling with the recent suicide of his brother and the psychological pressure cooker of his own psyche while having to take care of the family restaurant. Matheson is also a producer on the show, which was created by his close friend, Chicago native Christopher Storer.
Matheson — who says the cast has a group chat that is “popping at all times” — knows firsthand the pressures of restaurant life. The well-known Toronto chef and food personality (who regularly appeared on Vice’s series Munchies) had a 10-year run with the now-closed Parts & Labour diner.

Oh boy. Munchies (1987) is…something. Produced by the beyond prolific and legendary Roger Corman and directed by Tina Hirsch, Munchies is a late 80s rip-off of Gremlins – one of the slew of similar films to follow in the wake of the 1984 Amblin classic. Corman is known for cashing in on any hot film or […]

The Gremlins animated series will be a prequel, following Mr Wing as he has some adventures with his Mogwai...
Typing away with a little joy in our hearts as we write this, because if we can't have a new Gremlins film - and it appears we cannot, as Chris Columbus was still "actively talking about it" last April and we haven't heard a whisper since - then we are more than happy to have some kind of Gremlins-related visual media to enjoy until everyone in charge of the potential Gremlins movie reboot/reimagining/sequel/whatever gets their act together.
Variety has confirmed that WarnerMedia is planning a Gremlins animated series for its new streaming service! Filed firmly under "period piece" the prequel series "will follow Mr. Wing, the Chinese grandfather played in the films by Keye Luke, as a young man as he goes on adventures with the friendly Mogwai Gizmo.

As someone with a taste for short filmmaking, I’m always on the prowl to see what sort of unique, exciting short genre works are on the horizon. So when I stumbled upon the crowdfunding campaign for Gacha Gacha, a bizarro movie about a woman discovering a disgusting creature in a capsule toy by the director of the absolutely bonkers Australian slasher movie Cat Sick Blues, my interest was piqued.
Now, with Gacha Gacha’s Kickstarter in its final week (full disclosure: I donated nine dollars to the campaign), I reached out to Gacha Gacha director Dave Jackson to talk about collecting, tiny critters, and of course, gooey tanuki.
In your campaign, you mention that Gacha Gacha focuses on "the nightmare of obsession and the short-lived highs of being a collector." What made you want to make a movie about this theme?
Dave Jackson: I think it's something a lot of genre fans experience.

It's been 30 years, but we all still remember the three rules: Don't expose them to bright light, don't get them wet, and never feed them after midnight.
"Gremlins," which opened on June 8, 1984, has been a pop culture mainstay ever since, playing often on TV, launching a number of careers, influencing countless other tongue-in-cheek horror movies, and even changing the way movies are rated.
Still, as familiar as you are with adorable Gizmo and demonic Stripe, there may be many things you don't know about "Gremlins" -- like the famous voices behind the gremlins, the in-jokes, and the film's role in the creation of the PG-13 rating. Read on for more secrets of the mogwai.
1. "Gremlins" marked the screenwriting debut of Chris Columbus, who would later go on to direct "Home Alone," "Mrs. Doubtfire," and the first two Harry Potter movies. He wrote the script as a calling card just to get noticed in Hollywood,...

When I was a kid my dad used to have tapes upon tapes of movies he had taped off TV, typically uncut and usually filled with all the “goodies” Case in point, Screwballs. Screwballs was recorded in LP format and came just after Caddyshack. While I’m not entirely sure how I was allowed to watch the uncut, non-television purified version of Caddyshack at as twelve, well I thank my lucky stars that dear old mum never figured it out. At the time I didn’t know that Roger Corman was in anyway associated with the picture. Figures. Giant, low budget monster movies and loosely based Edgar Allen Poe adaptations certainly give way to comedic representations of large ta ta’s pirouetting across the screen like sugar plum fairies on LSD. So for the boobs. For the sense of humor grown by repeated viewings of said film. For the VHS...
