The building used as the house, Highclere Castle, is not only the seat of the Earl of Carnarvon who helped find Tutankhamen's tomb in 1922, but also was the filming location of the British drama Downton Abbey (2010).

Many of Highclere Castle's furnishings were used during filming and are arranged in the same manner throughout the house today.
Billie Whitelaw (Mrs. Medlock) made her screen debut playing Martha in the BBC adaptation The Secret Garden (1952).
