The 1992 movie The Last of the Mohicans, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, is still regarded by many as the best Western war movie of all time, more than three decades after its original release. Meanwhile, Irish-British actor Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the most celebrated actors in history. Day-Lewis is the only actor to win three Best Actor Academy Awards, for his roles in My Left Foot (1989), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Lincoln (2012). Colm Meaney, the Irish actor perhaps best known for playing Miles O’Brien across all seven seasons of “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” but with a wealth of other major film and TV credits to his name, is set to be honored with the Irish Academy Award for lifetime achievement.

Presented at the Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) awards on Feb. 14, the honor will celebrate a career spanning five decades that has seen Meaney work with some of the world’s most renowned filmmakers and actors.

“To say I was surprised when I got the news that IFTA wanted to give me this award, would be an understatement. I was truly shocked,” said Meaney. “To be asked to join this long list of very illustrious previous recipients is a huge honour, and I’m thrilled and looking forward to a good night in Dublin.”

Marvel Comics' new "Ultimate" universe is now knee-deep in its publication, but that shouldn't scare new readers into missing out on "Ultimates" by Deniz Camp.

Today, Mann launched the Michael Mann Archives, which is described as "a state-of-the-art, interactive website offering unique access into the all-encompassing directing process of one of cinema's most influential filmmakers." The first film to be featured is Mann's passion project, "Ferrari," which he spent decades developing before it was finally released in 2023.

For $65 (plus something called a "gas fee" that's present with each transaction since it involves the use of blockchain technology), which must be paid only to the website at michaelmannarchives.com, fans will receive a unique access pass that will let them "enter and explore the Archive's extensive collection at their own pace and in perpetuity." Users can purchase access to the interactive website, and there is a plan to create future pages focused on other Mann movies.

Jon Landau, the Oscar-winning film producer known for collaborating with James Cameron on iconic films such as Titanic and the Avatar franchise, died on Friday at age 63.

The Hollywood produced died after a battle with cancer, according to Variety.

“Jon was a visionary whose extraordinary talent and passion brought some of the most unforgettable stories to life on the big screen,” Disney Entertainment co-chair Alan Bergman said in a statement.

Bergman noted that Landau was not only an iconic and successful producer but also a remarkable person who inspired those around him. During this difficult time, he extended condolences to Landau’s wife, Julie, and his family and loved ones.

Jon Landau, the Oscar-winning producer who made the dreams of James Cameron come to life by overcoming extreme logistical challenges to bring the filmmaker’s Titanic and Avatar blockbusters to the big screen, has died. He was 63.

Landau’s son Jamie Landau confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter. He died Friday in Los Angeles after 16-month battle with cancer, a Disney spokesperson said.

A son of producers — his father was an Oscar nominee — the passionate Landau produced films including Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and Dick Tracy (1990) before spending some five years as an executive at Fox, where he oversaw production on Die Hard 2 (1990), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Cameron’s True Lies (1994).

If Cameron had a problem on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s True Lies, he was told by then-Fox Filmed Entertainment head Peter Chernin, “Don’t call me, deal with Jon,” Landau recalled in a 2011 interview.

Bradley Cooper is one of the most accomplished actors working in Hollywood right now. While he gained fame for his comedies such as The Hangover series, he graduated to dramatic roles with films like American Sniper and Silver Linings Playbook. He even turned director with the musical romance A Star Is Born and last year’s Maestro.

Cooper opened up about his struggles as an up-and-coming actor in the business. He mentioned that he had once auditioned for Michael Mann’s Public Enemies. The actor emotionally recounted how despite not getting the role, he cherished the letter that Mann sent him after his rejection which he has preserved to this day.

Filmmaker Michael Mann is known for his brand of crime films that really explore the criminal underbelly of a city.

Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are two of the most prolific veteran actors currently working in Hollywood. The legends have won Oscars and have featured in multiple acclaimed films. They have also worked with legendary directors such as Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola, and more.

De Niro and Pacino have worked together on four films to date, with the last being The Irishman. Though they first featured in the film The Godfather – Part II, they never shared the screen as their roles were set in different periods. The first time they ever shared a screen was in Michael Mann’s cult classic film Heat.

Planet Hollywood launched with tremendous fanfare in New York City on 22 October, 1991. An instant success, the movie-themed burger joint boasted an array of production made and screen-used memorabilia on display throughout the restaurant. The New York Times headline the following day read, “Fantasy For the Price of a Burger.” Each Planet Hollywood location served as a mini-museum devoted to the movies and the investors behind the venture included a who’s who of 90s stars, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg. The genius marketing strategy presented the opportunity to experience movie magic, from the props and costumes that defined audiences’ favourite films, to the thrill of potentially spotting a celebrity in the flesh.

Disney has 20 classic Fox movies remastered in 4K, but there are no plans to release them on streaming, VOD, or physical media. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just taken over Disney's physical media division, meaning these titles could eventually be released. Physical media hasn't been a priority for Disney as the company has instead shifted efforts to Disney Plus.

Disney is reportedly sitting on 4K remasters of 20 or more classic Fox movies, and the company has no plans to release them. Getting its start in the animated movie space, Disney is now one of the biggest and most well-known companies and brands in the world, not only operating wildly popular theme parks around the globe, but expanding its media empire division through strategic purchases. Disney bought 21st Century Fox in 2019 after buying Pixar in 2006, Marvel in 2009, and Lucasfilm in 2012, meaning it now has a massive catalog of titles under its control.

Mickey Gilbert, the fearless stunt performer who jumped off a cliff for Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and doubled for Gene Wilder in films including Blazing Saddles, Silver Streak and The Frisco Kid, has died. He was 87.

Gilbert died Monday of natural causes at his home in Camarillo, California, his oldest son, Tim Gilbert, also a stunt performer, told The Hollywood Reporter.

Early in his career, Gilbert was a horse wrangler in William Wyler’s Ben-Hur (1959) and a bank robber in Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch (1969). Years later, he took the lumps for Lee Majors’ Colt Seavers on the 1981-86 ABC action show The Fall Guy.

Exclusive: Michael Mann has set his second novel collaboration with Edgar-winning author Meg Gardiner. After starting out with Heat 2, a novel that topped the bestseller charts and hatched a movie that Mann is writing to direct at Warner Bros, Mann and Gardiner set up a new original novel that explores an intense global manhunt launched by a renegade federal agent and a stateless operator on a vendetta, in a highly authentic global arena.

The book is intended to serve as the first in a series. It will be the second novel from Michael Mann Books. Mann signed a three-book, multimillion-dollar publishing deal with the HarperCollins division William Morrow. Heat 2 editor Jennifer Brehl will be back for the new book.

Julian Senior, the veteran Warner Bros. marketing and publicity executive in Europe who enjoyed close relationships with filmmakers including Oscar winners Stanley Kubrick, Clint Eastwood, David Puttnam and Neil Jordan, has died. He was 85.

Senior died Jan. 1 of pneumonia and heart failure in a hospital near his home in Borehamwood, England, Conor Nolan, his friend and onetime Warner Bros. colleague, told The Hollywood Reporter.

A native of South Africa, Senior joined Warner Bros. in 1970 after an eight-year run at MGM, where he was an advertising and publicity consultant in its European Regional Office, and he stuck with the studio through 2000.

At the start, Senior helped mastermind the advertising and publicity campaign for the landmark Kubrick film A Clockwork Orange (1971), and he also worked with the famed director on The Shining (1980), Full Metal Jacket (1987) and Eyes Wide Shut (1999).

“He taught me how publicity, advertising and marketing operates,” Senior once said of Kubrick.

Michael Mann’s Ferrari has raced onto screens this holiday season. The director enjoyed his time working with his star Adam Driver and will even work with him again on his next film, Heat 2. Ferrari garnered a 74% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes with our own Chris Bumbray saying in his review, “While I assume Mann might have originally planned a more ambitious, sprawling Ferrari biopic, I’m not sure that one was needed. This does the trick pretty well, with it also, as usual for the director, impeccably shot. There have been several reasons for cinephiles to rejoice in 2023, but few are more exciting than the return of Michael Mann.

Michael Mann is one of the top directors in Hollywood, long used to calling his own shots. When Joe Roth was running Disney Motion Pictures, he asked Mann if his “60 Minutes” expose “The Insider” with Russell Crowe and Al Pacino (1999) would make money. “Probably not,” Mann said. Roth made it anyway. It wasn’t a hit ($60 million worldwide), but it scored seven Oscar nominations, including Picture, Director, Actor, and Adapted Screenplay. Like many of Mann’s movies, it also gained stature over time.

But for all of Mann’s classic films, there are as many movies that didn’t get made in his oeuvre. Robert Downey Jr. has quickly become the Oscars frontrunner for Best Supporting Actor for his transformative turn in Christopher Nolan‘s acclaimed biopic “Oppenheimer.” This Universal blockbuster chronicles how Cillian Murphy‘s titular scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer created the atomic bomb. Emily Blunt features as Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty, while Downey Jr. portrays his political foe Lewis Strauss. Third time should prove to be the charm for this charmer. That got us thinking about his first two Oscar races.

Downey Jr. was first nominated in 1993 for Best Actor for “Chaplin.” Another biopic, he played the titular role of the cinematic legend Charlie Chaplin. Directed by Richard Attenborough, the film recounts Chaplin’s incredible life and career from his poverty-stricken childhood to his worldwide acclaim. Downey Jr. turned in a pitch-perfect performance, nailing the accent, mannerisms, and expressions of the great man and receiving acclaim of his own along the way.

Get ready to spend the holiday season with Michael Mann and Adam Driver with their new film, Ferrari. It would be a relatively shorter visit when compared to historical epics like Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. Julia Roberts is an icon of the romantic-comedy genre, but there’s one famous rom-com the Oscar-winner happened to turn down: Nora Ephron’s 1998 classic “You’ve Got Mail.” Roberts revealed the scoop during a recent appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live.”

Ephron’s film memorably paired Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the story of business rivals unaware they are falling in love with each other online. “You’ve Got Mail” marked the third Hanks-Ryan romantic comedy after “Joe Versus the Volcano” (1990) and “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993), the latter title also being directed by Ephron.
