Featured review
Reincarnation was a popular theme in Hindi movies in the 80s and 90s. Radha ka Sangam follows the premise of reincarnation but rather than focus on the tried and tested formula of two people unravelling their past through cliched dreams or premonition it's a simpler narrative of someone telling the couple of their former life. In short Radha (Juhi) and Govinda (Govinda) come from two neighbouring villages - they meet and fall in love. However they face many trials and tribulations along the way. The film begins well.but the problem is that the pace becomes sluggish after the first hour. The scenes at the village wedding as an example test the viewers patience. However pre-interval when Govinda realises that his Radha is to.marry his brother is where the film really takes off. The second half is simply breathtaking. Juhi gives one of her careers best as the beautiful village girl. Govinda is very good proving he is capable of more than David Dhawan style slapstick comedy. The supporting caste of Mala Sinha, Kirti Kumar and Kiran Kumar are memorable in their roles. Some scenes linger in one's memory such as when Mala Sinha.points the gun at Kirti Kumar. The soundtrack by Anu Malik is classical and melodious and testament that Malik is.capable of more.than David.Dhawan tapori music. It is said that the movie was a disaster at the time of its release and rarely gets acknowledged when we look back at the careers of Juhi or Govinda. However if you enjoy romantic cinema with a nostalgic feel and sincere performances give this one a go.
