Which in itself does not mean much keeping in mind the "enormous" contribution of Finnish cinema to the world of art. However the less than memorable past of Finnish filmmaking often tends to conceal the fact that in the nineties many excellent films were made in Finland. Sadly most of them, like this one, were left without commercial international distribution because there just is no tradition for that sort of thing.
It seems almost futile to mention that this film is actually very good. it tells a beautifully subtle story of a sailor coming home to take care of his elderly crippled father. Somewhere along memories of childhood abuse start surfacing in the sailors mind and he finds out that life on the dry land can be quite stormy as well.
Beautiful, sensitive and stylish piece of filmmaking that the good people who publish videos in the English speaking world should see. They make such exotic artists such as Kiarostami of Iran available but often refuse to look closer for gems.
