Zoar Argov has become a musical legend not less than Elvis in Israel of 1980s. Born of the Yemenite background famous for its vocal proficiency, Zoar, a son and a grandson of chronic drunkards had become a drug addict in his youth. The feature argues that the drugs were not the only thing that had led him to the tragic end. The lack of truly devoted friends, cruel attitude of his beloved wife, and the environment by and large ignorant to his inner tragedy had had also contributed a great deal toward his desperation. I liked the feature for its sincere and accurate exposure of the ambivalent issues of Zoar the King's life.
Zohar is a well done Biography of Zohar Argov who's death was tragic in 1987. As Zohar Argov career becomes more successful he get's more dependent on hard drugs. The Biography is on the background of the Social Revolt of Israelis from Oriental Countries that brought Menachem Begin to Power in 1977. Argov and his songs made him a Star after his death and they have been sung by other singers as a Classic Mizrachi Singer. His songs (in the film too) are what I call "Mizrachi Blues".
The Film is well done and is popular in VHS Cassettes and DVD. I saw it when it was new in 1993 at the cinema. I took an 18 year old tourist who does not know Hebrew and she also enjoyed it very much. The story is similar to "Rose". Hope to get a DVD soon. I got and Enjoyed the DVD in June 2008.

This inspiring and also tragic story about Zohar Argov. Both fans and non-fans of Zohar Argov will find this movie to be on their favorites list. If you're a fan you'll find yourself singing along to the songs that are present in this movie. This movie follows the struggles that Zohar has faced in becoming the legend that he has become. Breaking boundaries and paving new roads to Mizrahit artists. The human story of this movie is bound to touch your heart strings. Although Zohar rose to the top and had financial wealth, he managed to lose it all due to drug abuse. Despite his success and fame, this man didn't seem to receive the love and respect he needed.
This movie was well done and in my opinion one of the best Israeli movies I've seen. This human story is bound to touch you and sympathize with the difficulties he faced. Even success can't always bring happiness.
