Jaap and Simon are taking an exam for a job at the municipality. They both fail. Simon de Wit and his wife appear to have lived in Jaap and Nel's house.

Simon suffers from sleepwalking. Jaap has to get him off the roof every time.

Jaap thinks he will earn 1000 gulden with a television quiz. He goes home empty-handed.

Nel has secretly taken a dog. Jaap and Simon think they have found Nel's food and take it to Mr. Harmsen. It turns out to be dog food.

Jaap thinks he has 6 months to live. He appears to have read a letter from the veterinarian.

Jaap is laid off. Nel is looking for an outside job. To get one, she has to pretend Jaap is her brother.

Jaap finds a ring on the table. It is not for him but for Siem's colleague Huib Scholten. Jaap puts it on but can't get it off.

Jaap and Nel hire a housekeeper. It is not what Jaap expected.

When Jaap and Simon return home late again, Jaap treats the women to a visit to Jaap's colleague Arnold Buisrogge and his wife. Jaap and Simon do not see their own wives standing. Arnold's all the more so.

The landlord comes by with a letter with a rent increase. Jaap doesn't just resign himself to it.
