Set in both New York and Paris, Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions: swapping their most talented stars.

Isabella Rossellini has joined Joan Collins in The Bitter End (w/t), a movie about the untold story of Wallis Simpson, John Gore Studios has confirmed.

Directed by Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral) and penned by Louise Fennell, the film charts the last years of Simpson, the American divorcee who became the Duchess of Windsor when King Edward VIII opted for love over duty.

Rossellini, an Oscar nominee for her role in the award-winning Conclave, will star as Suzanne Blum, the French lawyer and confidante of Simpson (played by Collins) who at the hands of Blum found herself ensnared in a menacing grip of obsession and coercive control.

Cynthia Nixon revealed to “Sex and the City” co-star Kristin Davis on Monday that when she joined the HBO comedy as Miranda, she thought another famous “Kristin” had been cast as Charlotte: “I didn’t know who you were,” she said.

Mindy Kaling is returning to Hulu, with the streamer greenlighting Kaling’s new comedy series “Not Suitable for Work.”

The show was first reported to be in the works at Hulu in April 2024 under the working title “Murray Hill.” It landed at Hulu in a competitive situation with a script-to-series commitment.

Per the official logline, the show “centers around five work-obsessed twenty-somethings striving for professional success and, if they have time, personal happiness in Manhattan’s most glamorous neighborhood, Murray Hill.”

Kaling is the creator of the series and executive produces under her Kaling International banner. Charlie Grandy will serve as showrunner and executive producer, with Howard Klein of 3 Arts Entertainment also executive producing. Warner Bros. Television, where Kaling and Grandy are under overall deals, is the studio.

The half-hour, single-camera comedy series, which was previously titled “Murray Hill,” has received a series order at the streamer, Hulu announced Tuesday. The order came about 10 months after the show landed at Hulu following a competitive bidding process.

Hugh Grant is detailing just how com-plicated comedy films can be to make.

The iconic star told Variety that while he has led more than a few classic rom-coms, the comedy genre itself is “difficult” to capture — and usually has a “miserable process” during production.

“I just think ‘com’ is difficult. I don’t know about ‘rom,’” Grant said. “Rom is not easy — and you need to mean it — but com is certainly very difficult.”

Released on Netflix on December 4, That Christmas is a wonderful new entry in the Christmas movie canon, and a great holiday viewing choice for families.

In recent years, Netflix has been making a name for itself in the realm of original animation. Netflix’s latest addition to the holiday movie roster, “That Christmas”, arrives with the pedigree of Richard Curtis, the mind behind romantic comedy classics like “Love Actually” and “Four Weddings and a Funeral”. Exclusive: David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral) has joined the cast of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino’s upcoming ballet dramedy Étoile as a series regular, Deadline has learned.

Haig was cast ahead of production on Season 1, which began in January, but not previously announced. Details on his role are being kept under wraps.

Set in New York City and Paris, the eight-episode first season of Étoile follows the dancers and artistic staff of two world-renowned ballet companies, as they embark on an ambitious gambit to save their storied institutions by swapping their most talented stars.

Étoile is created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, who writes, directs, and serves as executive producer.
