Distant memory

I saw this film in Sydney back in 1991. I remember enjoying it, but I always did have a strange taste in movies. As I'm writing this in 2003 I wonder what happened to it in the meantime.

It was neatly summarised by a couple I overheard on leaving the cinema. He said something like "Only in a French movie would you get two naked people talking about their relationship for an hour and a half". That's exactly what happened in the film - but I don't recall being bored at any time.

The amusing thing is that they begin the film naked and by the end they're both dressed. I'd love to see it again one day.

Has to be seen 3 times at least to get everything

A fantastic movie, comparable to "The Unbearable Lightness of Being". It is about two people who have a one night stand - and afterwards the film starts. And you see how a one night stand develops into a relationship in real time. Have you ever had a really deep personal talk with someone? Where you really have to focus on the other to follow along? Now imagine watching two people doing that. One has to see the film at least three times to get all the nuances: first concentrate on one, then on the other, then on both. Make that four times - because the first time you just get blown away.

What really annoys me is the superficial take on the movie by many. Google's "A couple struggles with their relationship after a one-night stand." is as far beside the point as idmb's take "The whole life in one night. A young couple plays nearly any role of possible lifetime relationships." - that's like saying " 'The unbearable lightness of being' is about a guy enjoying himself while his wife suffers". If those synopses were by human reviewers then they haven't seen the movie, and if it was by AI then the less said the better.
