Matti Pellonpää suffered from fear of heights and when filming a scene where he had to walk on a roof, there was also another disadvantage: in previous days' filming he had drunk some dirty water (against the director's advice), so he had a stomach-ache. Despite all this, he managed to give a good performance.
The story is based on the book "Tuomiopäivän sävärit eli svimbaa, komisario Koskinen" (Otava, 1987) by author Arto Melleri. One chapter in the book tells about the main characters, Räpsy and Dolly.
Director Matti Ijäs's second theatrical film. In 1990, he took a three year leave of absence from Yleisradio.
