Rumiko Takahashi, the original creator of the "Urusei Yatsura" manga, was reportedly displeased with this film, as it superseded the original ending for the manga (made into the movie Urusei Yatsura 5: Final), and was made with very little input from her.
The film was created to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the Urusei Yatsura TV series.
