Nana Patekar won the Film Fare award for best Villain 1992. This upset him as he reasoned Jackie Shroff won Film Fare award Best Actor for Parinda and that was a negative role. He wanted to be nominated in the Best Actor category. He did not see his role as villains role.
Kadar Khan won Filmfare award for best Dialog.
Anupam Kher wanted to do Nana Patekar's role. K Shashilal Nair told him he did not suit the role. Then after the film started, Anupam Kher told the media Shashilal Nair played dirty and gave his role to Om Puri. Shahilal Nair stated that when Anupam read the script, Om's role was still in development.
Jackie Shroff was having some personal issues with Dimple Kapadia and did not want to work with her. He suggested they approach Shilpa Shirodkar. Shilpa agreed to the film. That is when Dimple and Jackie fixed their misunderstanding and Dimple was back into the film.
During the initial stages Sunny Deol was approached for the film. This is when Dimple was excited about the film. When Shashi Lal Nair dropped the idea, he cast Jackie Shroff. This upset Dimple and she walked out of the film. When talk of Shilpa Shirodkar doing the film was doing the rounds, Dimple agreed to go back to the film. Dimple's father was a partner in the film.
