One of the most adored writers of our time, Neil Gaiman is renowned for his dark and inventive stories seen in comic books, novels, and film adaptations. Alan Moore’s Swamp Things inspired him to begin his career as a journalist in the 1980s before starting to write for DC Comics. It was while working for DC Comics, that he created the ground-breaking series The Sandman.

“Good Omens” has halted production on its third and final season, according to media reports.
The pause on the Prime Video fantasy series, which had been filming in Scotland, comes amid sexual assault allegations against author Neil Gaiman, which he has vehemently denied.
As filming takes a beat, “Good Omens” might undergo some production changes, per Deadline, who first reported the news. Representatives for Prime Video declined TheWrap’s request for comment.
Last week, Disney similarly put an adaptation of Gaiman’s “The Graveyard Book” — which had Marc Forster attached to direct — on pause amid news of the allegations, according to a report from IndieWire. In August, Netflix announced that it didn’t opt to renew “Dead Boy Detectives,” which is based off of Gaiman’s comics, for a second season.
Allegations against Gaiman, who is behind modern classics like “American Gods,” “Coraline,” “Neverwhere” and “Stardust,” surfaced in July, when...

It’s a pretty great time to be a Neil Gaiman fan. Technically, it’s always a great time to be a Neil Gaiman fan, but it’s almost certainly never felt more fun than at this precise moment.
Good Omens, The Sandman, and American Gods have all been adapted for television within the past five years, each with a rather astonishing degree of accuracy and faithfulness-–certainly to the spirit, if not always the letter of the author’s most popular works. Both Sandman and Good Omens will return for future seasons, a series based on Gods spin-off Anansi Boys is set to debut on Prime Video in the not-too-distant future, and Dead Boy Detectives, a show that’s focused on several DC characters created by Gaiman has been reclaimed by Netflix as part of their expanding Sandman onscreen universe. If you’re a tabletop RPG fan and a fan of Neil Gaiman‘s novel Neverwhere, Pizza Games has a little something for you with their current Kickstarter project, On the Odder Side. Utilizing the “Mark of the Odd” system and drawing inspiration from Into the Odd by Chris McDowall, On the Odder Side beckons players to venture into a realm filled with bizarre horrors and Victorian aesthetics.
On the Odder Side takes place in the city of Carcosa (though it has many names), where adventurers either lose their way or daringly cross an invisible boundary, leading them to the “shadow side” of the City. This familiar yet unsettling place grows stranger the longer they remain. The laws governing this realm are as mysterious and intricate as ancient faerie tales. Regardless of how you happen into this uncanny dimension, you must navigate its oddities to survive or find your way back home.

Looks aren’t everything (or so our mums tell us) but when there’s a brand new Doctor in the Tardis, they become pretty important. Tradition tells us that each Doctor has their own signature style – from Tom Baker’s iconic stripey scarf to Peter Davison’s cricket-and-celery combo, and Matt Smith’s “cool” bowtie – giving us clues about what kind of Doctor they’ll be.
So what will Ncuti Gatwa’s fifteenth Doctor be like? Details are scarce so far, but his fashion-forward costumes give us plenty of interesting hints…
No More Unchanging Doctor Costume
Finally, it looks like the Doctor is going to take the occasional shower.
Past Doctors have either stuck rigidly to a single costume – like William Hartnell’s suave, Victorian-era get-up or Colin Baker’s coat of many colours – or gone for a consistent look, like David Tennant wearing the same geek-chic suit in different colours,...

Fans have been waiting for the TV adaptation of Anansi Boys – Neil Gaiman’s 2005 fantasy novel about the two sons of the spider-god Anansi – for a long, long time.
Anticipation for Anansi Boys predates The Sandman, Good Omens and even American Gods when it comes to Neil Gaiman TV series. It was first reported that an adaptation was in the works back in 2014, but this project never came to be (parts were eventually incorporated into American Gods), so fans were excited to discover an Amazon Prime Video miniseries was in production back in 2020.
Three years later, we can almost taste it, so in anticipation here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming Anansi Boys:

Not only the Twelfth Doctor, but also an Oscar-winnning writer-director for his short film Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life, Peter Capaldi’s career spans almost four decades of impressive, inventive performances. Capaldi first truly captured the nation’s heart when he became sweary spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It in 2005, a role that could only be eclipsed for some by his stint in the Tardis.
After three glorious years of his Doctor, a terrific turn in The Personal History of David Copperfield, and popping up in the comic book world of The Suicide Squad, Capaldi’s latest venture – thriller The Devil’s Hour – is out now on Prime Video and reminding us what makes him so captivating on screen. Let’s revisit some of Peter Capaldi’s finest performances.

When it comes to stop-motion animated features, Henry Selick is in a league all his own. The acclaimed director of beloved films like "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "James and the Giant Peach," and "Monkeybone," is back with his first feature since "Coraline" -- the Netflix film, "Wendell and Wild." Based on Selick and Clay McLeod Chapman's unpublished book of the same name and from a script co-written by Selick and Jordan Peele, "Wendell and Wild" sees two titular demon brothers trying to convince a 13-year-old girl named Kat to summon them back into the land of the living. The film stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as the dastardly duo, and Lyric Ross as Kat.

From January 1989 until March 1996, Neil Gaiman's pivotal goth text "The Sandman" flooded the hearts of Doc Martens-wearing, clove cigarette-smoking, Fields of the Nephilim-listening teens the world over. The comic followed the downbeat, bitter adventures of Dream, a supernatural personification of human dreams, as he escaped a prolonged prison sentence in a fantasy kingdom, and set out traversing multiple dimensions to build up his power again. Dream frequently ran into other personified human concepts like Death, Destiny, Despair, and Delirium, and existed in a vast, complicated mythology world that your "Rocky Horror Picture Show"-attending buddies probably knew better than you.
Because of its cult popularity, scuttlebutt about a "Sandman" feature film began to spread sometime in the mid-1990s. Recalling the time, the buzz seemingly became loudest following the release of Alex Proyas' ultra-Goth comic book adaptation "The Crow," a film that appeared to be visually and tonally in...

“For years, I’ve said that I would rather have no adaptation of Sandman than a bad adaptation,” says Neil Gaiman – and for years we’ve had no Sandman adaptation. But perhaps surprisingly, given the very visual nature of a graphic novel, the first one to make it past the finish line is an audiobook – more than an audiobook, a scripted audio drama, something akin to a radio play or perhaps an ‘audio movie’ of the first three volumes of Gaiman’s The Sandman graphic novel series. It might not be the adaptation audiences were clamoring for but it works surprisingly well and might just set a path for a whole new way of consuming classic storytelling during a time when traditional screen productions are stymied.

Do too many cooks spoil the broth? That seems to be the opinion of Neil Gaiman on his experience with Doctor Who.
The American Gods, Sandman and Neverwhere writer was doing a talk to promote his upcoming TV adaptation of Mervyn Peake’s Gormenghast when he opened up to Deadline on his frustrations with the changes the show makes to existing scripts.
Gaiman’s working with Being Human‘s Toby Whithouse on Gormenghast and discussed the day when both his and Whithouse’s script were having a table read, saying:
“The nearest we’d ever come to working together was when we met at a reading of Doctor Who, Toby’s episode had been read that morning and mine in the afternoon. “We definitely liked each other and we liked each other’s work. Because I was writing Doctor Who, I had the privilege of reading Toby’s script, which...

Lenny Henry stars in the voice cast for this year's 6-part Christmas BBC Radio 4 Neil Gaiman drama, Anansi Boys…
Like satsumas and hangovers, the annual BBC Radio 4 Neil Gaiman drama has established itself as an essential festive tradition. Following its 2013 Neverwhere dramatisation, Radio 4 brought us Good Omens, Stardust, and How The Marquis Got His Coat Back, as well as featuring The Truth Is A Cave In The Black Mountains as a book of the week, all at Christmastime.

Neil Gaiman has become the new Isaac Asimov of sci-fi/fantasy writers whose stories go big. He's had the good fortune of having American Gods being a success on Starz, Lucifer on Fox, and a podcast radio show Neverwhere starring Benedict Cumberbatch and James Macavoy. He writes such interesting and promising stories, and one of his best is about to be made into a series at Amazon.
Good Omens is a collaboration by Gaiman and Terry Pratchet. It's a novel about a Demon and an Angel right before the end of the world who don't want it to happen yet. It has so many of Gaiman's great storytelling sensibilities and Pratchet's brilliant comedy.
Producers of the series have cast Michael Sheen to play the angel, Aziraphale, and David Tennant as the demon, Crowley. This already sounds like so much fun. Just to see those two in a series together is one thing,...

I've been catching up on the Sandman comics recently, and have fallen madly, deeply in love with them. But I'm not surprised, as I've loved author Neil Gaiman's other works, such as American Gods, Stardust, Neverwhere, and even his Marvel 1602 series. Not only that, but his adapted works - such as those of the aforementioned American Gods and Stardust - were also great as well. And... Read More...

So I've been watching American Gods - based on Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name - and it's pretty fucking amazing. Beautiful, surreal, well-acted, and with a great and interesting story. Sure, while there's still no Sandman, I'd argue Neil Gaiman has had a decent go at adaptations of his stories. I mean, Stardust is also delightful, and while not perfect the Neverwhere... Forgive me, Constant Reader, but I am still somewhat hungover from my Eisner Awards weekend. As evidence, I tell you that I have the new issue of one of my favorite titles, Bitch Planet, in my apartment, but I have not yet read it.
(I may read it during the course of writing this, because I plan to have lunch today. Stay tuned.)
So this week, I plan to talk about something that is not comics, but comics-adjacent, American Gods, the new series on Starz based on the novel by Neil Gaiman.
My colleagues in this space, Emily Whitten and Mindy Newell, have already written about the great cast and the tight scripting. I want to talk about some aspects of the show that are more ephemeral.
I haven’t read American Gods since it was published in 2001, but I remember being knocked out by it. The story of a war was not that unusual,...

In many ways the location is perfect for such an event as the Royal Observatory Greenwich is one of the most important historic scientific sites in the world. Since its founding in 1675, Greenwich has been at the centre of the measurement of time and space, and you can actually still stand on the historic Prime Meridian line there. In many ways it was completely surreal to be there to witness an occasion that was part Carl Sagan’s Contact and part showbiz extravaganza at its finest.

Neverwhere prequel How The Marquis Got His Coat Back and Stardust are the next Neil Gaiman dramas coming to BBC Radio 4...
That BBC Radio 4 is following up its successful 2013 Neverwhere adaptation with a one-off audio dramatisation of a Neverwhere prequel short story has been something of an open secret* these past months.
How The Marquis Got His Coat Back produced and directed by Dirk Maggs and Heather Larmour, featuring voice performances from Adrian Lester, Paterson Joseph, Don Warrington, Bernard Cribbins and more, will be broadcast in November.
BBC Radio 4 evidently hasn't finished raiding Gaiman's archives either. A two-part dramatisation of his 1999 novel Stardust, which was made into a 2007 film directed by Matthew Vaughan, will come to the airwaves this Christmas.
Matthew Beard and Sophie Rundle will be playing leads Tristan and Yvaine in the fantasy romance, which is recording this week in London. Joining them are Charlotte Riley,...

British scribe Neil Gaiman is a pop culture juggernaut, responsible for a myriad of novels, short stories, films, television series, graphic novels and radio shows. Coming into awareness as a fantasy writer, his magnum opus is a series of graphic novels about Dream, one of the Endless, also known as The Sandman, which he penned for Vertigo. Gaiman, no stranger to either the small nor big screen, created the darker urban fantasy series Neverwhere for BBC Two, which later was turned into a novel under the same title. With the current boom of television production, it would be a sin to omit one of the beloved fantasy authors. The premium network Starz ordered the adaptation of Gaiman´s bestselling novel American Gods, a project rumored to...

A heads-up for sci-fi fans. BBC Radio 4’s Dangerous Visions season is back for 3 weeks, starting this Sunday the 22nd of May…
Since Buck Rogers hit the airwaves in 1930s America and Orson Welles put the willies up listeners with his chill retelling of The War Of The Worlds, radio has long been a friend to science-fiction.
Happily, BBC Radio 4 continues that fine tradition with a new season of sci-fi programming over the next few weeks, including new commissions as well as dramatisations and readings of work by Aldous Huxley, John Wyndham and Kazuo Ishiguro.
Dangerous Visions, so named for the celebrated 1960s Harlan Ellison-edited sci-fi anthology, returns on Sunday the 22nd of May with Huxley’s Brave New World, with Anton Lesser. Then it’s an invasion classic with a dramatisation of Wyndham’s The Kraken Wakes featuring Tamsin Grieg, with versions of William Morris' News From Nowhere,...

Face The Raven was certainly a momentous episode and while it wasn’t the penultimate episode of Doctor Who series nine, it followed the grand tradition of stories like Utopia and Turn Left, which started as self-contained episodes before leading directly into the series finale.
Even on its own it stands as a great episode; a Neverwhere-meets Harry Potter secret Trap Street in the heart of London, filled with aliens all seeking sanctuary. The return of Ashildr / Me, more mysterious than ever. The deadly Raven sent to steal your soul when the numbers on your neck counted down to zero. And of course the dramatic death of long-serving companion Clara Oswald a whole two weeks earlier than her expected departure.
And with Ashildr’s trap for the Doctor and Clara’s death there are many questions going into Steven Moffat’s latest series finale. Just what does this...

There are plenty to choose from, though, across Gaiman’s four volumes of short stores - Angels And Visitations, Smoke And Mirrors, Fragile Things and Trigger Warning. One story that’s probably off the table is How To Talk To Girls At Parties – that one’s already in production as a movie.

Neil Gaiman fans who know Neverwhere probably break down into two groups, roughly by age: those who were introduced to the stories by the not-so-satisfying (but fondly remembered) 1996 BBC TV version and novel and the more recent Radio 4 dramatization. Hunger Games regular director Francis Lawrence is looking to add a third group, those who know a planned new drama series. Lawrence is aboard to help develop the new telly take with the Mark Gordon Company, working up a fresh version of the adventures of Door and Richard Mayhew, which kicks off when the latter is drawn into a struggle for the control of the mysterious, hidden netherworld above, below and on the streets of London.Assuming it goes ahead, Lawrence will handle directorial chores on that series and one other, as he’s also part of a deal to bring a show based on Charles Belfoure’s novel House Of Thieves to screens.

With “The Hunger Games” movie franchise coming to a close this fall, director Francis Lawrence is lining up new projects. This one may be worth getting excited about. Lawrence will direct the pilot for a new TV take on Neil Gaiman’s “Neverwhere,” Deadline reported today. “Neverwhere” was a six-episode urban fantasy TV series on BBC that aired in 1996. During the show’s run, Gaiman released a novel version of the story, which is about a man who finds his ordinary life changed forever on the day he stops to help a girl he finds bleeding on a London sidewalk. After that encounter, he’s propelled into the hidden world of “London Below” — a dark subculture flourishing in abandoned subway stations and sewer tunnels — as he ceases to exist in London Above. Lawrence (who directed three of the four “Hunger Games” films) seems like a good fit: He proved with...

"The Hunger Games" sequels director Francis Lawrence, his producing partner Erwin Stoff, and the Mark Gordon Company are teaming for two high-profile drama series adaptations.
The first is "Neverwhere," an adaptation of writer Neil Gaiman's urban fantasy BBC miniseries and subsequent novel. Lenny Henry co-created the original 1990s mini-series in which a man helps an injured girl, only to find himself pulled into the fantastical world of London Below.
The other is "House Of Thieves," based on the just-released mystery novel by Charles Belfoure. Set in 1886 New York, a respectable architect finds himself blackmailed into helping a gang of thieves craft plans for robberies that even the smartest detectives won't solve.
Lawrence is attached to direct both dramas, which he is executive producing with Gordon and Stoff.

It's terribly when you lose an old friend, and Christopher Lee was one of my oldest. We first met in 1948.

Following the news that another hopeful heir apparent to the Saturday night Doctor Who slot - fantasy series Atlantis - has bitten the dust, what should the BBC should try next?
The return of Saturday night family adventure
Not so very long ago, the idea of an early evening adventure show on BBC One - on Saturday night no less - that the whole family would happily sit down to enjoy was seen as impossible. That time had passed, the audience was now too fragmented, there's just no way you could get people from eight to 89 to all sit together and watch the same narrative show.
Then, the BBC took a risk. With big swingers like writer Russell T Davies and then-bbc drama commissioner Jane Tranter fighting its corner, that old, dead TV legend Doctor Who lurched back into life... and it worked. People of all ages tuned in, the viewing figures stacked up,...

Paterson Joseph chats to us about Good Omens, Peep Show, being cut from Paddington, and why he'd "never say never" to playing the Doctor...
Where do you begin with Paterson Joseph? Be it on stage or the small screen, he’s popped up everywhere from Shakespeare to Survivors, from Casualty to Green Wing. To some, he’s the suave, sharply dressed and, latterly, lapsed alcoholic Alan Johnson in Peep Show. But to others, this writer included, he’ll always be the mysterious, flamboyant swashbuckler, the Marquis de Carabas, from Neil Gaiman’s rich sub-London fantasy Neverwhere.
Now, he’s appearing on BBC Radio 4 in a festive double bill of prestige productions. First, he’s giving voice to fast-food mogul and horseman of the apocalypse Famine in Good Omens, adapted from the novel by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Then, on New Year’s Day, he’s Pierre, the passionate protagonist...

Tune in to BBC Radio 4 Mon 22nd to Sat 27th of December for the adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's Good Omens...
Here's a festive gift we can open a wee bit early: BBC Radio 4 has confirmed that its six-part Good Omens adaptation will start on Monday the 22nd of December at 11pm, running throughout the Christmas week and culminating with an hour-long episode on Saturday the 27th of December (presumably just after tea).
Geek radio drama doyen Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, Neverwhere) has adapted Gaiman and Pratchett's 1990 comic apocalypse novel for the airwaves. Maggs and producer Heather Larmour have amassed an impressive cast for the series, led by Mark Heap and Peter Serafinowicz as angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley respectively. Those two are joined by Colin Morgan, Josie Lawrence, Paterson Joseph, Clive Russell, Phil Davis, Louise Brealey and more. Think of it as a geek Christmas selection box,...
