Meenakshi Sheshadri's last film.
Rajkumar Santoshi wrote the film for Kamal Hassan. But the film distributors convinced Santoshi to take Sunny Deol due to their last film Ghayal being a hit.
Raveena Tandon shot for 10 days then opted out.
The film was in making for 5 years. This was due to Santoshi making Andaz Apna Apna and Barsaat .
In the later part of Meenakshi Seshadri career, she stopped signing films because she wanted to retire. She had two delayed. films with major and important filmakers, like Dilip Kumar's Kalinga & Rajkumar Santoshi's Ghatak to complete, which were delayed. She was waiting to complete both films.At one point she backed out of Ghatak but then returned. Raveena Tandon was to replace her. This film fetched Amrish Puri an award.
