I was drawn to "Jane Street" by the intriguing premise: "What if a provincial young man from a small town moved to New York City and ended up living with a lesbian couple who was trying to conceive a baby?". I was not disappointed. The film is fun, entertaining and thought-provoking all at the same time.
While the film was likely shot on a very low-budget, it has outstanding and very watchable young actors, particularly the captivating Jane Jensen. The story flows logically and builds nicely along its twisted course. The film is refreshing in that the director allows viewers to make their own decisions about what's right and wrong with society's attitudes instead of force-feeding a particular point of view.
"Jane Street" is billed as a comedy and while there were many funny moments the writer/director certainly had a lot on his mind. Dram/Com would be my take.
I recommend "Jane Street" as good fun. The current debate over gay/lesbian family/marriage rights makes this film timely with its slyly comic insight into the destructive effects of deep-rooted prejudice.

Jane Street was a surprisingly good film. For a low-budget, indy production it had a very sweet feel and I found myself pulled through the story wondering what would happen next to the main characters. I don't want to give away too much of the story but it was fun to watch a young ne'er-do-well fall into living with a lesbian couple in New York City only to get freaked out by their attempts to get pregnant.
Good actors, story, cinematography and editing made this film a treat. The music had some catchy songs as well. I especially like the cut under the title sequence.
Jane Jensen and Kevin Carroll were stand-out actors. I'll be looking for more of Jane Jensen in films, she's hot!!! This is definitely worth a watch if you like indy films.
