This movie is a true story about Carolyn McMorris who was murdered by her stepmother, Colleen Stubblefield, on December 5, 1955. She had two older sisters, Kay who was then 5-years old and Debra, then 3-years old. The children lived with their stepmother and biological father, Bull, in the Ace Motel in Lubbock, Texas at the time of the murder.
In 1955 doctors were not required by law to report child abuse.
The real Kay and Debra appear in the final scene at the cemetery. They are the blonde woman and the woman with long red hair. Debra passed away in 2011.
