Oscar Pistorius took the stand on Monday in an attempt to prove that he did not intentionally kill his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day 2013.

Before Pistorius, 27, testified, he had to sit through gruesome evidence from a pathologist. As he’s done throughout the trial, the Paralympian broke down, crying and throwing up as the testimony was given.

In the text messages presented by the prosecution, Steenkamp expresses a frustration and fear of Pistorius’ temperament. She accuses him of throwing “tantrums” and writes, “I’m scared of you sometimes.”

"You have picked on me excessively ... I do everything to make you happy and you do everything to throw tantrums ...,” Steenkamp wrote in a message roughly three weeks before Pistorius shot her through his bathroom door. "I'm scared of you sometimes and how you snap at me and of how you will react to me. You make me happy ninety percent of the time and I think we are amazing together ... but I am not some other b---h ... trying to kill your vibe…"

Oscar Pistorius' trial for the premeditated murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp entered its 10th day on Friday, where photos of Pistorius covered in blood were put on display and a former law enforcement official’s testimony provided ammunition for the defense.

Earlier in the week, Pistorius became physically ill while hearing about and seeing pictures of his deceased former girlfriend, who he claims he accidentally killed, mistaking her for a burglar. On Friday, he had to glance at pictures of himself, his shorts and prosthetic legs covered in Steenkamp’s blood, reported the New York Daily News. The photos were taken shortly after police arrived on the scene at Pistorius’ Pretoria, South Africa home last February.

Along with the shirtless pictures of Pistorius, the court also saw photographs of the bloodied toilet that Steenkamp had been near when Pistorius shot through the bathroom door.

The bathroom door is a main piece of evidence in the trial. Although the prosecution initially contended in the premeditated murder hearing that Pistorius had put on his prosthetics before shooting through the door, they now suggest he was on his stumps when he fired the bullets – and when he used the cricket bat to unlock the door, reported CNN.

"From the forensic evidence, he was on his stumps," South African police colonel J.G. Vermeulen said on the stand.

The defense is maintaining their original story, which consists of Pistorius shooting the bullets while on his stumps and then putting his prosthetic legs on before wielding the cricket bat.
