52 years after it was first produced, a rare piece of Beatles history is available on YouTube. A Christmas compilation Paul McCartney created for his bandmates has been uploaded online.
The compilation is titled Unforgettable, and it is believed that only three copies of it were ever printed: one each for John, George, and Ringo, who received it on acetate discs as Christmas presents in 1965. On the album, McCartney plays the role of DJ, introducing each of the compiled songs and adding in some improv of his own. "And so in this program, Unforgettable, we hope that you are not gonna forget us and are gonna join in," McCartney riffs in his introduction.
Unforgettable takes its name from the Nat King Cole number that leads it off. Other songs featured in the compilation include "I Get Around" by The Beach Boys and "Don't Be Cruel" by Elvis Presley.

Twenty years after the death of the Notorious B.I.G., his murder — as well as the death of Tupac Shakur — still hasn’t been solved. But his widow, Faith Evans, believes a spate of new TV projects could force the Los Angeles Police Department to reveal the truth.
Several projects timed to the anniversary, including A&E’s new documentary “Biggie: The Life of Notorious B.I.G.,” Fox’s investigation special “Who Shot Biggie & Tupac?” and USA Network’s scripted drama “Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.,” dive into the mystery. (The Johnny Depp feature “Labyrinth,” which also investigates the murders, is on tap for 2018.) Most of the projects have a clear point of view on who was responsible, yet there’s still no consensus.
Evans said she wasn’t familiar with the USA project, which is being produced without the involvement of the Notorious B.I.G. estate.

Has Mark Isaiah become the Sanjaya Malakar of The Voice? Going into Monday’s performances by Season 12’s Top 10, it certainly seemed so. Though more than half of you who voted in our elimination poll last week would have sent the Austin Mahone wannabe packing, he remained in the contest, the recipient of a puzzling instant save. Did he finally hit upon a song that would allow him to win something more than Adam Levine’s admiration and fourth place in a high school talent show? Did Vanessa Ferguson Riri-cover from her “Diamonds” misstep? Did Chris Blue manage to top...

Justin Timberlake isn't the only artist tethering a new single to an animated film this summer: Sia has covered the Nat King Cole standard "Unforgettable" for the upcoming Finding Dory, the long-awaited sequel to the Pixar hit Finding Nemo.
The "Chandelier" singer debuted her rendition of the classic Friday on Ellen; host Ellen DeGeneres provides the voice of the title character in the film. With a story as emotional as Dory's, only an equally as emotional theme song would do. Fans only got surface information about Dory's life in Finding Nemo, but now that Finding Dory is just around the corner, audiences will learn all about Dory's journey and her family. As any Disney-Pixar fan knows, these animated films can be pure tearjerkers, as can their accompanying theme songs. It probably shouldn't come as a surprise, then, that Ellen DeGeneres (Dory) would ask Sia to perform "Unforgettable" for the end credits. Written by Irving Gordon, "Unforgettable" was made famous by Nat King Cole in the 1950s, but the song won a Grammy in 1992 when Natalie Cole included it as a tribute to...

We were doing it for a great mutual love of that kind of music," Foster says about Cole’s tribute album to her father, legendary jazz singer Nat King Cole. “We had no clue it would strike a chord with anybody.

John Dahl has signed on to helm the opening two episodes of Starz‘s upcoming Outlander, a Ron Moore series based on Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling books. Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world where her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate affair is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. Dahl, repped by UTA and Brillstein, started off in features, directing such films as Rounders and Unforgettable, before segueing to episodic television. His recent credits include Dexter, Ray Donovan, Hannibal, The Americans, Person Of Interest, Justified and Homeland.

It's been 20 years since "Perfect Strangers" left the airwaves on August 6, 1993, after eight seasons and 150 episodes of hijinks with cousins Larry Appleton (Mark Linn-Baker) and Balki Bartokomous (Bronson Pinchot).
Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the laugh-track-heavy, multi-cam sitcom was a staple on ABC, even anchoring its Friday night Tgif block for several seasons. It was a fish-out-of-water storyline for Balki, who came to America from the Mediterranean island Mypos to meet and live with his straight-laced cousin Larry in Chicago.
The two opposites balanced each other out, and the show featured them dancing, doing a lot of physical comedy and, eventually, finding love and settling down (still together, of course) with their neighbors.

Santa Monica, Calif. — It's been four years since Natalie Cole received a kidney from a Salvadorian donor, and the singer says it not only connected her to Hispanic culture, it has given her the strength to record her first post-operation album – totally in Spanish.
"I don't believe in coincidences. I believe everything happens for a reason. That this was a Latin family, I feel like I'm part Latino now. That (made) the desire to make this record became even stronger," Cole said recently during a private listening session of "Natalie Cole En Espanol," released this week.
This is Cole's first album since she received her kidney in May 2009. Her donor was a young woman from El Salvador who died while giving birth to a baby boy, Lucas, said Cole (the Grammy-winner received the donation after suffering from hepatitis C, a liver disease spread through contact with infected blood).

"I'm just thankful that I got this far in the competition," Chisolm tells Zap2It. "Now that the competition is actually over, I can look back on everything that I need to work on, and everything that I've done, and get better."
Considering what Thicke says was his best advice to the young ingénue -- "shake your booty" -- the budding songstress takes with her a lot of momentum and feels she now has the world to charm and impress.
And her cohort agrees.
"She has a lot of class, a lot of humility and a lot of ambition which is a good combination," Thicke points out. "It means she can be a good learner, and she's a great tryer.

X Factor reject Wagner Carillho has blamed his mentor for his elimination on Sunday night.
The Brazilian singer was placed in the bottom two on last weekend’s results show and was forced to compete in the sing off against vocal belter Mary Byrne.
After his rendition of Nat King Cole’s ‘Unforgettable,’ the judges unanimously decided to save Mary and speaking to X Magazine about how he ended up at the bottom, Wagner blamed Louis walsh saying:
“The trouble was Louis gave me fast songs in English so I had difficulty learning the lyrics. My language is Portuguese. I didn’t have enough time to rehearse and practice.
“The songs that can show my voice like La Fortuna and The Wonder Of You and Creep, I sang well because I connect with the emotion. She Bangs, I can’t feel that.”

Katie Waissel and Wagner Fiuza-Carrilho have been eliminated from ‘The X Factor’.
Controversial Katie – who was in the bottom two of the show five times in total – received the least number of votes on last night’s results show (28.11.10) and was automatically removed from the TV talent show.
Wagner and former supermarket worker Mary Byrne then had a sing off to reveal who would be leaving the competition next, with the long-haired Brazilian performing a rendition of Nat King Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’ while the Irishwoman sang ‘This Is My Life’ by Shirley Bassey.
Louis Walsh – who mentored both the acts in the sing-off – was asked to vote first and opted to save Mary, noting the high importance of singing to her.
He said: “Mary, this is your life, so the act I am choosing to send home tonight is Wagner.”
Dannii Minogue and Cheryl Cole followed suit, leading to Wagner leaving the show.

Wagner Carillho has narrowly missed the chance to perform on The X Factor semi final next week.
The Brazilian star was finally voted off the ITV show tonight, after being placed in the bottom three with Mary Byrne and Katie Waissel. Controversial Katie was eliminated and so Wagner sang for survival against his fellow over 28 singer.
Wags sang first and for his save me song, chose to croon Unforgettable by Nat King Cole. It was a pleasant change from the huge dance numbers that Louis has forced upon him to date but really, his rendition provided Mary with no competition at all. We suppose the words did have some poignancy though……after all who could forget the larger than life Wagner?

By the time John Dahl had directed his third feature – 1994’s The Last Seduction – critics had anointed him as a contemporary torch bearer – perhaps the lone, consistent one – of the film noir ethos. Even today, with his filmography having grown to include the less noir-ish thrillers Unforgettable (1996) and Joy Ride (2001), a tale of card sharks prowling New York’s underground big-money poker circuit in Rounders (1998), and a true story of Ww II adventure and valor in The Great Raid (2005), Dahl’s name is still most closely associated with modern day noir thanks to the three indelible thrillers which launched his career: Kill Me Again (1989), which he co-wrote with David W. Warfield, Red Rock West (1992), on which he collaborated with his brother Rick Dahl, and The Last Seduction, written by Steve Barancik.
Dahl’s working in movies represents a formidable leap from a less than cosmopolitan upbringing in Billings, Montana. Although...

Having explored over the last two days both the Box Office Sweet Spot and the directors with the highest average box-office over the course of their careers, I can't quite let it go until I round up the directors with the lowest box-office average, too (since 1980). Again, to be included on the list, the director must have made at least four films, and I also excluded those directors who didn't have at least four movies in the English language (just because a director like Tom Twyker or Hayao Miyazaki may not be commercially successful in America doesn't mean he hasn't been incredibly successful overseas).
I think the trend that you're most likely to pick up on from this list is that you don't have to make scads of money at the box office to be considered a successful or very well-respected director. Many of the directors on this list have Oscars,...

Black Music Month: Father's Day Playlist"It's A Family Affair" by Sly and the Family StoneIn light of Father’s Day we have pulled together our favorite Father’s Day songs. Just as our Dads want the best for us, we want the best for them! While my father worked hard to ensure that I received the best of everything, it hurt my heart last year to know that I couldn’t afford a remarkable gift.At that point, I decided to get creative.I gathered a list of songs that expressed my love, gratitude and feelings for everything my Dad did for me. It turned out to be the best gift ever because he told me that the CD nearly brought him to tears. This simple, cute and inexpensive gift was the best idea and proved that no matter how old I turn, I will always be Daddy’s Little Girl.

Yes yes yes..I know..we entertained this subject last month. However, in the tradition of Post, I am following up last in the process!
This subject has been of particular interest to me, and has sparked a lot of interest among my colleagues in Post Production. Discussing spotting is a subject unto itself as we have seen with all the fascinating articles and comments these past weeks. The focus this time will be on the advantages, disadvantages, pluses and minuses of spotting a project with the Composer And the Sound Designer present with the Director. Sitting down in a room, all together, with the same goal in mind... helping the Director tell the story. On the surface, it seems like a no-brainer---why Not do this? Save time and energy; reduce the classic 'conflicts' during the final mix; The left hand knows what the right hand is going to do...

The real "Bourne" franchise may have stalled, but we continue hearing about new franchise possibilities involving a female version of the amnesiac spy. The latest is Bold Films' "Blank Slate," an action thriller that Heat Vision reports is based around the idea of a female convict implanted with the memories and fighting abilities of a fallen CIA agent. The script is from Douglas Cook and David Weisberg, who penned one of my favorite action movies of all time (in spite of how ridiculous it is), "The Rock."
In addition to the obvious "Bourne Identity" comparison, the plot synopsis also reminds me of "Face/Off," "The Eye," "La Femme Nikita" and the 1996 Ray Liotta movie "Unforgettable," in which a detective takes an experimental drug that allows him to acquire memories of other people in order to track down his wife's murderer. Not to put down the originality of "Blank Slate," which...

Of all the musical highlights at the memorial service to Michael Jackson, none was more bone-chilling than Jennifer Hudson's rendition of "Will You Be There." She belted it out with that same sky-shattering bravado that earned her an Oscar for crooning "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" in "Dreamgirls," and the performance was magically enhanced by the addition of Michael Jackson's whispered words, "In my darkest hour, in my deepest despair, will you still care? Will you be there?"
Not only was it expert song craftsmanship, but it was a cry to heaven freighted with extra poignancy knowing that the tragic loss of the King of Pop was being acknowledged artistically by a major new star who recently suffered the tragic loss of her family members.

Why should you buy the soundtracks of Christopher Young? Well, for instance the music is quite good on some of them. And if you want to have more fun with the release, check out the tracklisting. You're bound to find somehing along the lines of "Accelerated Brundle Disease" or "Dancing With a Wet Handkerchief on Your Mother's Grave". But wait, there's more! The CD of Hush for intance contains the following titles: "Hush", "Little Baby", "Don't You Cry", "Mama's Gonna Buy", "You", "A". It's all fun. If you pay close attention, you might also find that several Young releases contain pun homages to famous composers as well. Below I've gathered all I could find, now it's up to you to guess which composers are referenced in the track titles. I might add that some of them are only guesses and I couldn't find references some of Young's biggest works...

The Watchmen soundtrack. The 1987 literary masterpiece “Watchmen” has finally been squeezed into the film format. The impossible has been done. Whether it has been done well is left to be seen.
I don’t quite buy into the Zack Snyder hype. He’s constantly being called a “Visionary”. For what… a remake of a George Romero classic and a page for page literal interpretation of 300 in the Sin City style? If that’s visionary than what was Kubrick? I am however, a really big fan of the Watchmen book. My conflict lies in the fact that the Watchmen book was more an experiment on the comic book medium that is just not going to translate well into film. The story itself is brilliant, but inside sources say even that has been drastically altered.

Well before Watchmen even went into production, we knew that a killer soundtrack would be involved -- not only because the graphic novel's universe revels in a slightly different form of pop culture, but because Zack Snyder is pretty into the world of cinematic music. Just a year ago, I wrote about Snyder raving about the lounge wonders of Richard Cheese, and wondered if that was a hint for things to come. It was merely wishful thinking, but I'm very happy to report that even without some campy lounge, this is going to be one hell of a soundtrack.
Three days before the film hits theaters, Sci Fi Wire reports that Warner Bros. will release two discs -- the soundtrack and the original score. Considering the huge number of people that will see this film, I can only hope that this inspires a new wave of retro apprectiation (sort of...

"Watchmen" will have its soundtrack album and original score compilation released three days before it makes its debut in the U.S. theaters. On Thursday, January 22, Warner Sunset/Reprise Records announced that both of the movie's soundtrack and original score have been set to hit U.S. stores on March 3.
Through a press release, the recording company also let out that the soundtrack will include a cover version of Bob Dylan's "Desolation Row" by My Chemical Romance, recorded exclusively for the movie. Other than My Chemical Romance, other musicians featured in the album include Billie Holiday, Simon & Garfunkel, Janis Joplin, Kc & The Sunshine Band and Nat King Cole.
