When it comes to soaps, fans can expect quite a few characters to come and go over the years. However, fans of General Hospital are starting to think the show has been seeing too many cast changes as of late. In fact, some viewers are wondering about the direction the soap is heading.
People Are Coming & Going Rather Quickly In Port Charles
General Hospital is ABC’s last remaining soap. Following the cancelation of As the World Turns, the soap also serves at the oldest long-running soap opera.
Actress Kelly Monaco has recently left the soap after appearing for around two decades, in addition to appearing on the spin-off Port Charles. Notably, her character, Sam McCall, died of a heart attack following a liver donation on the soap.

Monaco wouldn’t be the only actor leaving the soap. Chad Duell also recently announced he would leave the show.

It’s Thanksgiving, a time to count your blessings. At Soap Hub, we are incredibly thankful for these soap opera moments.
Giving Thanks
I’m Rachel Dillin, Editor-in-Chief of Soap Hub, and I’m so thankful for the news of the first new soap opera in 25 years. Anticipation is high for Beyond the Gates, and I can’t wait to watch from day one. With a great cast and a wonderful writers’ room, this daytime drama is sure to be one for the ages.
Additionally, I’m so happy for villains like Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) and Luna (Lisa Yamada) on The Bold and the Beautiful. Speaking of villains, it’s been a great year for them on The Young and the Restless, with Cameron (Linden Ashby) making an unexpected reappearance. Plus, I’m thrilled to see Jordan (Colleen Zenk) and Ian (Ray Wise) back in Genoa City.

“Those whom choose to bully behind their power, will suffer their own consequences,” said former “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco (ex-Sam McCall) on X (formerly Twitter) earlier this evening in response to a poster claiming the actress was let go from the daytime drama series due to “her actions.”
“[Kelly Monaco was] fired for her actions. There was no vendetta. She did this herself. She phoned in her performances for Years. She thought she had more power than she did,” the X poster commented in response to another poster who alleged that the show’s executive producer, Frank Valentini, had a “personal vendetta against Kelly [which] created a hostile workplace.”
Standing up for herself, Monaco stated, “I do have more power than a ‘job’ it’s my voice, my experience, my truth. You can beat someone down, until they finally find the power within themselves to recover with grace and dignity. Those whom...

Known to be a bit hyperbolic when it comes to his status at “General Hospital,” often claiming to have been “written out” or his “run is done,” only to return shortly thereafter, this time actor Kin Shriner appears to be done for good as Scott Baldwin on the ABC daytime drama series, according to some of his recent posts on X (formerly Twitter).
In response to fans inquiring about when his next appearance on the soap opera might be, Shriner claims to have “no plans” of returning. Further, he said a flat “no” when a fan asked that very question.
Shriner’s comments came earlier this month after he made a post highlighting the anniversary of Luke and Laura’s (Genie Francis and Anthony Geary) wedding.
In the post, he said, “Me and Elizabeth Taylor were the original wedding crashes [sic] , Iam ok with that !!!” His Taylor reference came as he...

2024 has been a rough year for General Hospital and the actors who work on the hit ABC soap.
Casting changes have taken over, and the canvas that once was Port Charles looks unfamiliar.
Some actors who left were expected, and some were newer additions who didn’t hold the weight of the other goodbyes.
However, when more than a few long-term actors leave, there begins questions about what the end goal is and what direction General Hospital is headed in.
General Hospital is the last remaining ABC soap, and I was shocked when it was chosen to continue. All My Children and One Life to Live were much better, in my opinion, though I had watched all three for decades.
Now, it seems there could be trouble for the long-running soap as many viewers are still reeling from recent casting decisions.

Port Charles has imploded again. Monday’s episode of General Hospital delivered the kind of operatic absurdity that keeps us tuning in, even when logic takes a powder. From clandestine recordings to comatose escapes, the writers appear to be emptying every trick from the soap opera playbook. Michael, bless his conniving little heart, secretly recorded Drew […]

Another long-term General Hospital star is exiting Port Charles.
Just as viewers were dealt a blow with Kelly Monaco’s exit as Sam McCall, another Port Charles staple, is leaving the set.
Today, Chad Duell (Michael Corinthos) announced he was stepping away from the ABC soap after 14 years in the role.
He talked about it being the “right time” in his life to step away. There was no context for why he chose to walk away, but he recently welcomed a baby with his girlfriend.
Currently, Michael is involved in one of the hot-button storylines on the ABC soap. The character needs to continue, which begs whether a recast will step in immediately.
As of now, Chad has not revealed his final air date.

General Hospital spoilers for next week tease that more drama is coming as November sweeps wrap up.
Things in Port Charles have been turned upside down this month, and as Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) death continues to affect her loved ones, her gift to Lulu (Alexa Havins) will continue to live on.
As Ava’s (Maura West) trial begins, everyone must relive the pain of losing the baby Kristina (Kate Mansi) was carrying for Molly (Kristen Vaganos) and Tj (Tajh Bellow). This family has been through the wringer, and it doesn’t look to be letting up anytime soon.
Meanwhile, things with Sam’s children appear to be coming into place. The Quartermaine mansion is about to become much fuller in the coming weeks.
It will be a short week, with Thanksgiving bringing a repeat episode and Friday being preempted for sports coverage.
Here’s what to expect next week on General Hospital.

Anthony Geary is still known to many General Hospital fans for his role of Luke Spencer. However, recent events on the series have fans wondering if Luke should make his return to the series. On the other hand, bringing the character back might be easier said than done.
Anthony Geary Was Part Of A Prominent Supercouple
Geary first took on the role of Luke in 1978. For many fans, the character’s relationship with Laura Webber became an early prominent example of a soap opera “supercouple.”
Geary also appeared as the character in various spin-offs, like Port Charles, and even made a crossover appearance on the sitcom Roseanne. He continued on in the role well until 2015, although he briefly returned to the role in 2017.

This 2017 guest appearance would mark the last time fans would see Luke onscreen. In 2022, however, it was said that Luke died in a cable car accident while in Austria.

General Hospital (Gh) spoilers hint that the week of November 18-22 will be a highly emotional one. This preview for the next five days indicates the little town of Port Charles will gather for Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) funeral, but fans need to brace themselves for some major drama.
General Hospital Spoilers – Danny Morgan Blames Lucas Jones For Sam’s Passing
Gh spoilers suggest there is a scene in this week’s preview that shows Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn) blaming his uncle, Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) for Sam’s demise. It looks as if this will all go down after her funeral services.
Lucas is already dealing with his fair share of guilt, so it’ll be heartbreaking to watch his nephew lash out at him.
As the days go by, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) will have a chat with Danny, and he may try to reason with his son.

In a viral video posted to X (formerly Twitter) last Friday, “General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco can be seen giving a good speech to the cast and crew of the daytime drama series as she finished filming her final scenes as Sam McCall, which aired Friday, November 1.
“I’ve been on this lot for 25 years, and you have all been my family – not only my second family but my first family – and I just thank each and every one of you for all these memories and this experience that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life,” said an emotional Monaco, as she held back tears while holding a bouquet.
“Mark Teschner [show’s Casting Director], you started this whole journey for me and it has been a wild ride,” Monaco noted in her speech the 21 years she played Sam on “General Hospital” and her more than three-year run as Livvie Locke on “Port Charles.

General Hospital (Gh) spoilers reveal that Lucky Spencer (Jonathan Jackson) is seemingly ready to once again say goodbye to Port Charles.
During this week’s Gh preview video for November 11-15, Lucky told Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) that he has no intention of sticking around the little town. But will something change his mind?
General Hospital Spoilers – Lucky Spencer’s Return Has Bombed
Gh spoilers remind fans that it feels as if Lucky’s return to PC has been an epic failure. He was unable to ‘save the day’ by being Lulu Spencer’s (Alexa Havins) liver transplant donor.
In some ways, he essentially brought Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) to town, and he may feel responsible for Sam McCall’s (Kelly Monaco) passing now, (even though he is nowhere near at fault).
On top of everything else, while Lulu’s life has been saved, she still lies lifeless in a coma.

We’ve known for a while that General Hospital cast Alexa Havins to play Lulu. Now, we have her first airdate: Monday, November 18. Here’s how the actress who once portrayed Babe on All My Children prepared for her new role on the only remaining ABC soap opera.
Preparations
Havins spoke with TV Insider ahead of her big return to daytime television. She told the publication that she didn’t want to be like the previous actresses — Julie Marie Berman and Emme Rylan — who portrayed the character.
“In no way, shape, or form do I want to mimic the other two ladies. I’m not trying to be them in any way,” Havins said. “Julie’s Julie and Emme’s Emme. Obviously, it’s going to be a more mature version of her, and I’m me, and I can’t be them.
“Lulu is a spitfire,” continued the actress.

As we enter Election Day 2024, let’s take a look back at a special episode of General Hospital that took us back to 1920 and focused on women’s right to vote.
Fight For Your Right
The 2020 stand-alone episode titled “Vote” aired on November 2, 2020, Election Day of that year. The episode also coincided with the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage.
While the episode opened in present-day 2020 on Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) 18th birthday. She’s encouraged by Carly (Laura Wright) and Bobbie (ex-Jackie Zeman) to exercise her right to vote after she remarked that her one vote won’t make a difference.
When Joss showed up at the gallery, where Trina (then-Sydney Mikayla) was helping set up a display for the women’s suffragist movement, and the two explored inside and old voting booth on display. When they pulled a lever just as Lucy (Lynn Herring) lit an oddly-familiar candle,...

General Hospital Spoilers: Why Brandon Barash’s Return To Gh Is A Must For Fans And Storylines Alike
General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal Gh’s former Johnny Zacchara, Brandon Barash just lost his job as Stefan Dimera on Days Of Our Lives. Here’s why his return to the ABC soap is a must for fans and storylines alike!
General Hospital Spoilers – Port Chuck Could Reunite
One compelling reason to bring Barash back to Port Charles right now is the nostalgia factor: the band, Port Chuck.
Currently, Barash is part of Day Players, a band that includes Eric Martsolf, Wally Kurth (known for his roles as Justin Kiriakis on Dool and Ned Quartermaine on Gh), and Carson Boatman.
However, his musical journey began with Port Chuck, a group formed by Gh actors that entertained fans from 2010 to 2020, featuring Barash alongside Steve Burton, Bradford Anderson, and Scott Reeves.

It’s been a long time since General Hospital veteran actor Leslie Charleson has been seen in Port Charles, and fans recently received an update that could determine her future on the soap.
Paging Dr. Quartermaine
Charleson was dubbed the longest-running actor on Gh after joining the show in 1977 and appearing all the way up until December 2023 when she appeared for a single episode opposite Jane Elliot. While the actress hasn’t been on the show since, co-star Steve Burton revealed earlier this year, after returning to Gh in March, that he knew his on-screen mom was doing well and hoped to work with her again.
Charleson stopped appearing on the show over the last few years after suffering several falls, even forcing Gh to temporarily recast her with Patty McCormack in 2018, then with Holly Kaplan in 2022. However, characters will often mention Monica, saying she’s either ill or away at medical conferences.

General Hospital has mentioned Monica (Leslie Charleson) quite a bit recently.
With November sweeps on the horizon, there’s been chatter that the Quartermaine head could be returning to the ABC soap.
It’s been nearly a year since we last saw Monica on screen, and it seems that will not change anytime soon.
Leslie has had a rough few years, including several obstacles that have landed her using a walker.
At 79, getting around is becoming a chore for the well-loved soap star.
Here’s what we know about Leslie Charleson and a possible return for Monica Quartermaine.
Leslie Charleson would be welcomed back to General Hospital with ‘open arms’
Leslie Charleson’s relationship with General Hospital is still in good standing.
The actress had to cut back due to injuries and has appeared intermittently over the years. However, in 2010, Leslie went from being on contract to having a recurring status with ABC soap.

As the shocking news of Brandon Barash’s Days of our Lives exit settles across Salem, here’s why his old stomping grounds of General Hospital should scoop him back up, and fast.
Barash’s History
Barash started out on daytime when he joined Gh in 2007 as Johnny, the son of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) mob nemesis Anthony (Bruce Weitz) – or so they thought. After memorable relationships with characters like Lulu, Carly (Laura Wright), and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) and finding out his actual parents were Gino (Joseph Sirola) and the woman he believed was his sister, he was sent to Pentonville after taking the fall for a crime Lulu committed, prompting Barash’s 2016 exit.
In 2019, Barash arrived in Salem when he took on the role of Stefan (previously played by the late Gh star Tyler Christopher). Barash joined a list of Days actors to play more than one character when...

As Kelly Monaco’s final scenes as Sam McCall on General Hospital begin airing, viewers are tuned in to catch the final glimpses of one of their favorites.
Kelly has played Sam since 2003, when the character debuted in Port Charles. She has been mixed up with some strong male leads, including Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jason (Steve Burton).
However, her chemistry with Billy Miller as NuJason and Drew drew even more viewers into her world. Kelly and Billy were part of one of the better eras of General Hospital.
During a recent episode of the hit ABC soap, Sam was being wheeled into surgery to help save Lulu’s (Alexa Havins) life.
Just before she turned the corner, Sam signaled, “I love you,” in American Sign Language. This was also part of Jason and Sam’s story, and JaSam fans immediately noticed.

It was shocking when news broke about Kelly Monaco being fired from General Hospital.
She has been a staple on the ABC soap for two decades, and before joining Gh, she appeared on the spin-off series Port Charles.
When she arrived in Port Charles in 2003, Sam McCall was a force to be reckoned with, but lately, watching the character lose everything she was has been frustrating.
The spark in Sam has been dimming since Billy Miller left the show, and it has been challenging to watch for the last year or so.
Sam morphed into an overprotective mom, paired with Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), which was weird. No shade to Dominic, as we love him as Dante, but a Sante pairing was not what we wanted.
Kelly has always given her all, even with the terrible storylines. Unfortunately, the material she has been given over the last several months (maybe even...
