Newly engaged Prince Harry stepped out in London on Tuesday night for some festive cheer!
And just like his royal outing on Monday, he was without fiancée Meghan Markle.
Harry, who told the world his engagement news last week, made a surprise visit to a special carol service that raises money for a cause close to his heart.
Harry’s ex-girlfriend Cressida Bonas was among the guests at St. Luke’s Church. The actress was there to give one of the readings — Roald Dahl’s version of Little Red Riding Hood. Also in attendance were Carole Middleton and Pippa and James Matthews.

CBS All-Access is looking to add to its Star Trek: Discovery success with Tell Me A Story, from Vampire Diaries creator Kevin Williamson.
So far, CBS All-Access has had relatively little when it comes to new material to lure subscribers past its pay wall. Star Trek: Discovery has been a good start to bringing paying customers into the fold, but one hit show does not an on-demand service make.
Perhaps CBS All-Access' new planned drama from The Vampire Diaries' Kevin Williamson will help. According to Deadline, the streaming service has given a straight-to-series order to Tell Me A Story, an adaptation of a Spanish TV series that puts a dark psychological twist on classic fairy tales.

CBS All Access is moving from space to storybooks, with the mind behind the “Scream” franchise and “Dawson’s Creek” at the helm. The home of “Star Trek: Discovery” has picked up a series order for Kevin Williamson’s haunting new tale, “Tell Me a Story,” CBS’ Svod and live streaming service announced Thursday. Peta Murgatroyd and Maksim Chmerkovskiy steamed up the blue carpet when they attended Maxim's Halloween party in La on Saturday. The couple, who tied the knot during a fairy-tale wedding this Summer, found the perfect balance of sexy and scary for their costumes. While Maksim paired his fitted suit with skeleton makeup, Peta showed off her insane figure with a Little Red Riding Hood outfit and ghoulish eye makeup. It seems like the two have a soft spot for storybook costumes. In 2015, they looked like they just stepped out of a magic pumpkin when they dressed up as Cinderella and Prince Charming. Don Siegel’s 1971 The Beguiled is a much loved classic, telling the story of a Union soldier holed up in a boarding school, where he beguiles each of the females and earns his comeuppance. So what would Sofia Coppola, one of a handful of female directors in competition in Cannes, bring to the story that is new by viewing it from a woman’s perspective? The answer is: very little.
Coppola remains faithful to the novel and the original screenplay, as we follow Amy (Oona Laurence) into the woods to forage for her infamous mushrooms. She’s a little red riding hood toting her basket all alone in the humid forest and she is about to stumble upon John McBurney (Colin Farrell), a wolf in Yankee clothing. As Amy helps the injured deserter back to her school, we meet the rest of the ladies: Martha (Nicole Kidman), the headmistress,...

One of the lesser-known horror anthologies of the 1980s, 1986’s Deadtime Stories is a title of which I’ve been familiar for years, but it took me a long time to actually get around to seeing it. And because of the film’s long history of botched home video releases, the versions I’ve been able to watch in the past haven’t been of the best quality. As a result, I had an unfair opinion of the movie. Thankfully, Scream Factory has put Deadtime Stories out on Blu-ray for the first time and allowed me the opportunity not just to revisit it, but to revise my opinion. It’s more fun than I gave it credit for.

Since the dawn of the 21st century, action cinema has undergone a bigger change than perhaps any other genre. As the tools with which filmmakers craft their works have continually advanced, a sort of renaissance has begun wherein action films stepped firmly into their own. Often put in the same category as horror — not taken seriously as a form of artistic expression outside of its core fanbase — action has had to boldly announce itself as a viable medium through which big set pieces, but also big ideas, can be presented and explored.

December 25th is internationally marketed as a day of cheer, togetherness, and bright lights during one of the darkest nights of the year. But, there are those of us who want to indulge in that darkness. There is a wealth of terror to be found in winter nights, and the following stories are perfect fodder for that breed of dread. Curl up by the fire, turn the lights off, and read... if you dare.
"The Wendigo" by Algernon Blackwood: A group of hunters in snowbound Montana encounter a windy, wintry forest spirit in one of Algernon Blackwood’s scariest tales. By taking an ancient, metaphorical legend and bringing it face-to-face with research and authentic characters, Blackwood forms an account of elemental terror that freezes the soul. Nothing is creepier—or more fun—on a windy December night.

Chrissy Teigen and Coco only continue to make our Halloween even better. All weekend, the ladies have been sharing teasers of their daughters' first Halloween costumes, and while we thought things couldn't get any cuter...they did. On Sunday night, Teigen continued the fun with her and John Legend's baby girl, Luna. The mama had already posted a couple deliciously cute food-themed costumes as well as mini mouse and a peacock, but Sunday she switched over to movie themes. From a Pink Ladies getup from Grease (which Luna didn't appear to totally love) to Alice in Wonderland and Little Red Riding Hood, the little one proved she could be a mini Hollywood star...

Model, cookbook author, and "proud shamer of mommy shamers" Chrissy Teigen is not messing around when it comes to her daughter's first Halloween. On Thursday, Chrissy shared snaps of 6-month-old Luna dressed up for the holiday. In one, Luna looks completely unimpressed while wearing a hot dog costume, and in others, she sports a peacock ensemble with webbed feet, a Minnie Mouse dress, and a banana peel. On Sunday, she then shared snaps of Luna as a hula girl, a Pink Lady, Alice in Wonderland, and Little Red Riding Hood. There are plenty of celebrity babies who will be waddling around in adorable costumes this year, but something tells us baby Luna will rank high on the list of cutest, tiniest trick-or-treaters. The 6-month-old seemed to like her Alice in Wonderland costume much better, which paired the classic blue pinafore with a white apron and a big black bow on her head. "Needs more flair," Teigen captioned the pic of her daughter.
Next up, the 30-year-old Cravings author dressed her daughter in a Grease-inspired Pink Ladies outfit, complete with a pink satin jacket and jeans. And this time around it seemed like Luna channeled her inner sassiness.

Wearing its influences and title like badges of honor, horror enthusiasts expected more than an endless barrage of jump scares from Layers of Fear, but the mortals at Bloober Team failed to oblige. Players did not control a saint, a decorous family man, or an average Joe caught up in machinations orchestrated by superior powers. Layers of Fear focused on a darker side of the creative process, on the sacrilege an artist would commit in the name of his magnum opus.

Ghostbusting doesn’t make Nathan Appleby feel good in the penultimate episode of The Living And The Dead…
This review contains spoilers.
The Living And The Dead delivered the perfect Halloween special this week. Episode five was a typically handsome hour (is there a better-looking show on at the moment?) dripping with classic horror moments.
It was the week that saw Shepzoy’s sceptics get what for. Spirits rampaged around the village dripping ghost-blood on the carpets and sending the locals scattering. Even the most rational-minded villager couldn’t convince themselves that a murderous troupe of dead Civil War soldiers was just a trick of the light.
Reverend Denning, for one, was shaken out of his existential certainty by a levitating daughter and a ghostly forest fire (you’d think a man of the cloth would be at home with burning bushes). The same goes for Charlotte Appleby,...

So put those Bagel Bites back in the oven; bust out the microwavable kettle corn; ask your mom if your uncle is really related to anyone -- for it's time to please the whole crowd with your brilliant taste in movies.

Chicago – The myth and fear of witches has fascinated personhood since religion and anti-religion have clashed. “The Witch” is a new film that takes that battle and puts it right back into 17th century America, when religious separatists like the Puritans tamed the New World. Robert Eggers wrote and directed the film.
The film is a fascinating combination of the psychology of fear and emerging sexuality. Using a mysterious woods against a family’s failing homestead, Robert Eggers plants the seeds of darkness with a mysterious coven in those woods, and a series of events that splinters the family’s faith and sanity. The film is dark and enabling to the witch ethos and history, which continue in other “hunts” and “accusations” to this day.

I loved The Sixth Sense. I loved Unbreakable. As far as his directorial efforts go, I’d say that’s about the extent to which I enjoy M. Night Shyamalan. I did love Devil, which he wrote and produced, but he was not the one behind the lens on that one. Suffice it to say, when I learned that a found footage movie, directed by Shyamalan was on the horizon, I was skeptical to say the least. After all, the found footage style of horror has run its course. Once in a blue moon a solid one will come along, but for the most part, every new entry into the sub-genre comes across as little more than beating a dead Tauntaun. Imagine my surprise when a found footage movie, directed by someone I consider to be a notoriously bad director, turned out to be one of the funnest movies of...

Robert Adanto's documentary The F Word navigates the liminal space between 3rd and 4th wave feminism and between Irl and URL by capturing the work of Brooklyn-based artists who raise questions about self-representation, sexuality, and embodiment. Their work offers a glimpse of unbridled female power and sexual agency, and yet is not fully rooted in fantasy, often contending with the brutal realities of the male-dominated (art) world. Along with this dynamic cast of artists, The F Word includes commentary by scholars and professors alike -- including former Art in America senior editor Nancy Princenthal -- to add background and to contextualize the works and concepts he explores. After the premiere, three of the film's artists, Kate Durbin, Leah Schrager, and Katie Cercone will join the director in a post-screening panel discussion.

Strictly Come Dancing star Jay McGuiness has revealed that his professional partner Aliona Vilani has been forcing him to do push-ups.
Speaking on Strictly: It Takes Two, the Wanted star joked that he can't even fake the exercise because Vilani knows how it should be done - thanks to her former winner Harry Judd.
"There was a lot of working on my [arms this week] because I think I tend to slump and it was all about keeping your elbows up so we focused a lot on that," McGuiness said.
"Also, she made me do push-ups. Ten a day. But she makes me do them real, because Harry had great arms! She knows the real actual way of doing it, because I used to fake it."
But while McGuiness might have nailed his arms, he admitted that he still needs to improve on getting a character across, joking: "I think naturally with...

It looks like Anne Hathaway was really inspired by this weekend's big Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather boxing match! The Oscar winner showed up to Monday's 2015 Met Gala wearing a gold hooded dress that somewhat resembles a metallic boxing robe a pro athlete might wear. In addition to the bold statement hood, the 32-year-old actress' Ralph Lauren Collection custom gold lamé cap sleeve column evening dress with very simple and in line with the theme of "China: Through the Looking Glass." The brunette beauty looked slender and statuesque while posing on the carpet with a giant smile on her face. Way to work it, Anne! Some fans have also made the Little Red Riding Hood...

Director/writer: Till Kleinert. Cast: Michel Diercks, Pit Bukowski. Der Samurai is, essentially, Till Kleinert's bizarre, gruesome take on “Little Red Riding Hood,” mixed with the typical 'making of a samurai' story. Kleinert's picture brings something strange and ferocious to a fairy tale that is often lacklustre in its re-telling. The samurai component may not appease samurai cinema enthusiasts, however heads do roll, and the combination of the two story lines surprisingly works well together in this twisted, Lynchian nightmare. Although some of the concepts are over done, the acting is convincing and the cinematography is brilliant. This film is definitely worth watching for lovers of creepy, arthouse cinema, but steer clear if you're after a blockbuster slasher flick. Actor Pit Bukowski as Der SamuraiThe film follows Jakob (Michel Diercks), a small town police officer, as he attempts to catch a wolf on the loose. Jacob struggles to belong...

Werewolf movies can either be a howlin’ good time like Adrián García Bogliano’s Late Phases, taking a bite out of softer genre efforts, or they can be like David Hayter’s Wolves, a mainstream safety net that makes you want to cuddle a werewolf instead of run away in fear. Werewolves can be horrifying, menacing beasts, or overgrown house pets, spanning a varied spectrum of physical embodiments from humanistic (Wer) to cartoony (Wolves), which is why I have to commend filmmaker Lowell Dean on creating a werewolf movie full of gore, hilarity, and a werewolf police officer who’s more of a comic book hero than furry mythical creature. WolfCop is “Dirty Harry only hairier,” and his first case is every bit a bonkers B-Movie revival that midnight movie fans pray for – littered with fairytale references and a little animalistic cavorting for all you furry exhibitionists out there!

It's Cinderella vs. Belle -- who you got? Sarah Michelle Gellar teamed up with Whitney Avalon to go head-to-head in a rap battle! But this wasn't just any old war of words, as the two ladies showed off their rhyming skills while dressed up as the beloved Disney princesses. The "Buffy" alum played Cinderella in the fourth edition of "Princess Rap Battle," complete with a poofy blue ball gown, tiara and long blonde wig. Whitney dressed as Belle in her signature golden-yellow dress. The best part? Each of them had their own Princess backup singers. Belle was flanked by Pocahontas and Little Red Riding Hood while Cinderella had Goldilocks and Buttercup in her corner. Cinderella starts off by telling Belle that she's basically a "hater." "Of course you’re bitter, I’m the number one star. Pumpkin carriage, perfect marriage, no one cares who you are," Sarah rapped. While Belle,...

Slayyyyyyy, Buffy! Slay! Sarah Michelle Gellar transformed into a princes—Cinderella, to be precise—to participate in the latest installment of comedian-actress Whitney Avalon's "Princess Rap Battle" YouTube series. The hilarious music video debuted Wednesday, with Avalon taking on the role of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Avalon directed the music video, which also features Buttercup (Ali Williams) Goldilocks (Emily Goss), Little Red Riding Hood (Courtney Merritt) and Pocahontas (Nikki Mejia). Perhaps Gellar's Cinderella has spent too much time around her Evil Stepmother, as she raps, "Another princess in my shadow / Come to cover my crown / You clowns wanna throw down /...

Into the Woods is hitting on Blu-Ray March 24th, and this one has a lot of great bonuses. Of course, it’s to be expected from Disney, but beyond that, this is one that doesn’t even need a lot of bonuses. Check our Into the Woods review here for the full report on the film itself.
Among the bonuses are a commentary track, several behind-the-scenes featurettes, and a look at the cast.
Not only was this a really great movie (and I’m no huge musical fan), but it’s one that, like most things Disney, is going to go into heavy rotation.
Check out all the details below.
Includes An Exclusive, Never-Before-Seen Original Song “She’ll Be Back” Performance by Meryl Streep with Music By Stephen Sondheim and Lyrics by James Lapine

An ominous warning from the opening scene of Crying Wolf
Crying Wolf is the latest Horror-Comedy from UK director Tony Jopia (Deadtime, 2012). The story is told from the perspective of a character known only as “Private Detective” (played by Gary Martin who is best known in film for his work getting murdered by a tractor in 1986’s Slaughter High). The first thing that gets me is that Martin, a long-time voice over actor who you can hear in films like Neverending Story, Corpse Bride and Fern Gully (to say nothing of his collaborations with rock icons, Queen), appears to have dubbed his own dialog in Crying Wolf in an overly dramatic coffee commercial way. Something I immediately chalked up to an intentional touch of comedic irony. Because, why not. After Martin nearly comes to blows with a shopkeeper over his desire to purchase a book titled Crying Wolf,...

It's taken decades for Into The Woods to get to the big screen. It might just have needed a few more years.
Musicals can be tough to adapt from the stage to film, but you'd think that Rob Marshall, who brought the genre into the 21st century with 2002's Oscar-winning Chicago, would be a safe pair of hands. Unfortunately, that's maybe too true of Into The Woods, a project that has flummoxed filmmakers for a good couple of decades.
The much anticipated film is based on Stephen Sondheim's play, mashing up a bunch of different fairytales to more subversive effect. In a magical kingdom by a great forest, a baker and his wife (James Corden and Emily Blunt) are desperate to have a child together. Alas, the baker is cursed with childlessness by the Witch who lives next door (Meryl Streep) over a quarrel with his deadbeat dad, (Simon Russell Beale.

Sophia Grace Brownlee somehow just added to her adorableness. The 11-year-old girl who rose to internet stardom after a video of her singing a cover of Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” went viral has debuted her new music video called “Best Friends.”
Headed by music video director Matt Alonzo, Brownlee’s video showcases the little girl’s rapping talents with plenty of frills and flair, pink-hued attire, and girl power motifs. In the video, Brownlee invites a bunch of her gal pals over for a slumber party, singing “when stupid boys come around/Me and my girls shut ‘em down.” The girls raid the closet of Brownlee’s fictional mother before ending up on one heck of a Kmart-branded shopping spree and strutting down the runway of their very own fashion show.
Brownlee’s original Minaj cover video, now boasting over 47 million views, gained the attention of Ellen DeGeneres shortly after it was posted.

Sondheim’s mashup of Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood loses a little magic on the path from stage to screen
A layer of theatregoing good taste covers this entertaining if stately movie musical, based on Stephen Sondheim’s stage show, which opened in the Us in 1987 and has been revived constantly since. It has been adapted for the screen by James Lapine, who wrote the book for the original Sondheim production, and robustly directed by Rob Marshall.
Inspired by Bruno Bettelheim’s classic analysis of fairytales, it is a mythic mashup of Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and Little Red Riding Hood, with a bit of David and Goliath somewhere somewhere in there, too. A childless baker and his wife are informed by a quivering, quavering witch that their barrenness is a result of her curse. They can cure it by journeying into...

Into the Woods is a modern twist on several beloved fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests.
