Lately, we at JoBlo have been championing the collection of physical media in the face of certain movies that have been getting somewhat lost due to extremely limited availability. This is especially an issue for those who partake in a digital collection of movies, which has the potential of disappearing despite purchasing them. However, there are great distributors like Vinegar Syndrome and Arrow Video that have done a fantastic job remastering rare movies for Blu-ray releases. The Mvp Rewind Collection has recently announced that the Albert Pyun action-thriller, Mean Guns, starring Christopher Lambert, Ice-t, Michael Halsey, Deborah Van Valkenburgh and Tina Cote is set for a Blu-ray release on April 9.
The plot description, courtesy of Blu-ray.com, reads,
“The world’s most dangerous criminals are summoned to a new prison on the eve before its grand opening by Moon, the ruthless leader of the world’s most powerful crime syndicate.

August isn't especially famous for its great movies. As months go, the eighth one on the calendar has often been a bit of a wasteland for Hollywood, as blockbusters peter off, kids have a lot less free time and money, and studio executives need to find somewhere to dump their proverbial dead bodies.
If you want a good example, you can pretty much throw a dart at any year after "Jaws" popularized the concept of summer blockbuster season. For example, let's take a look at 1993. 30 years ago, August was a month for dreck comedies like "Son of the Pink Panther," family film misfires like "Father Hood" and "Surf Ninjas," and the weird-ass "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday."
But then again, there are exceptions to every rule. There were also a few excellent motion pictures in August 1993. The increasingly timeless classic "The Fugitive" came out that month, along with...

If you’ve been reading the site for a while you’ll know I love the work of director Albert Pyun, from Cyborg to Nemesis, Captain America to Mean Guns, I’ve seen and enjoyed all his flicks. What I really like about Pyun is how open and honest he is on his Facebook page – he keeps fans in the loop on all stages of production. Like now.
Pyun has been spilling the goods about his latest film, Cyborg Nemesis, a, to quote Pyun, “balls out sci-fi war film” which is set to star Natassia Malthe as Us Marine Warrant Officer/Sniper Cwo Melody; Dina Meyer as a tough Us marine, Lt. They may not be household names like their A-list colleagues, but the actors on this list have appeared in some of our all-time favourite geek movies...
Some actors dabble in sci-fi; others dip their toe into fantasy; some may even make an appearance in the odd horror film - all before returning to the safety of the genres in which they feel more comfortable - perhaps a nice, award-chasing period drama, or a well-paid romantic comedy.
A-listers may see the geeky films that we on this site enjoy and celebrate as fun little side-projects, but there are actors out there who commit full-time to these types of movies. It is high time, therefore, that we credited these individuals with the recognition they deserve.
Besides the stipulation that, in order to be included, an actor had to still be alive and working today, there were no strict criteria that had to...

The sequel to the 2010 action ensemble film, 'The Expendables' is in desperate need of getting some people to sign on the dotted line, followed by an official press release confirming its cast. Only then will the IMDb page for the film be able to rest without being modified every 10-15 minutes. Right now, there are like 675 former and current action-stars who are said to be involved. Movie Hole has added a few more via a source of theirs. Offers are said to be going out to Taylor Lautner, Nicolas Cage, Christopher Lambert, and Christian Slater. Even if you're not too familiar with Lambert and Slater, the guy who sticks out like a sore thumb definitely isn't Cage -- it's Lautner. The guy who can't keep his shirt on and his emotions in check from 'Twilight' is going to get a part in a an action film that caters to an older,...

Shocking news from Arnold Schwarzenegger's camp today, as the former governor revealed that he fathered a child over a decade ago with a member of his household staff, a revelation that led to his separation from Maria Shriver. The confession has prompted a wide range of reactions and ridicule from celebrities in the Twitter-Wood space, as you might expect.
In other news, many are buzzing about the just-released teaser for Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin," while one actor/rapper has strong words for Bill O'Reilly after his debate with Jon Stewart over Common's invitation to visit the White House.
I'm @roundhoward and this is Twitter-Wood for May 17, 2011.

'Hunger Games' Casting, Douglas Adams Remembered And Osama's Killer Revealed In Today's Twitter-Wood
Fans haven't been universally appreciative of casting news on "The Hunger Games" thus far, with the possible exception being Jennifer Lawrence's attachment as Katniss. But here's something that everyone — or, at least, a "Lost" architect — can get behind: Woody Harrelson is on board as Haymitch Abernathy!
Many members of the Twitter-Wood community spent today observing the 10th anniversary of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" author Douglas Adams' untimely death, while still others remain obsessed with the demise of Osama bin Laden… so much so that one actor was not really able to unmask the Al Qaedea terrorist's killer.

In the independent filmmaking world, Albert Pyun is a little more independent than most. Having made his directorial debut with "The Sword and the Sorcerer" in 1982 after serving an apprenticeship under Akira Kurosawa, Pyun carved out a unique niche as a director of low-budget, high-concept genre films starring casts slightly past their prime.
Some will think that's a charitable description for Pyun, who has been derided as "the new Ed Wood," but consider that his pairings of rap stars and action stars (beginning with the 1997 Ice-t/Christopher Lambert team-up "Mean Guns") begat the trend Joel Silver popularized in the early naughts, and he was once just two weeks shy of directing "Spider-Man" (which he'll explain below).
These days, Pyun's movies rarely see the inside of a theater, but that's made him a pioneer in another arena: streaming video-on-demand. With his latest film, "Tales of an Ancient Empire," a spiritual "not...

Albert Pyun is extremely happy with how his sword and sorcery epic, Tales of an Ancient Empire, is shaping up. Below are some words he recently published on his official site:
"It’s clear to me that Tales of an Ancient Empire is by far the best film I have ever made. Yeah, I know I’ve said that before because each film I’ve made had some aspect, maybe it was a performance, a camera move, a turn of character, but there was always something, some moment, big or small that made it my best at the time. But looking at Tales from all sides and being as objective as I can possibly be, each moment of the film, consistently represents my best work.
How I know this as being true is that it doesn’t even seem like one of my films. No moment of cringe; no lapse in logic or sanity,...
