"Girl On Fire" could have been just another typical low-budget cop film (cops and criminals are all after a suitcase full of money, the payment for an undelivered shipment of arms), but it is distinguished by well-done martial arts (after all, it has both Billy Chow and Ken Lo in its cast), two GREAT girl fights near the end, and above all, a sensual, scorching, smoldering performance by Mikie Ng (imagine a more beautiful Shu Qi - if you can!). Her character's name, Icy, must be ironic, because she is hotter than a summer day in Sahara. Much like Xenia Onatopp in "Goldeneye" (released the following year!), Icy loves three things in life: a) sex, b) killing, c) any combination of the above. And I would advise you not to read any of the few reviews of this movie you may find before seeing it, because it's better not to be prepared for what SHE is prepared to do. The other girl in the movie, Fujimi Nadeki, is pretty and talented in action, but her character (a HK cop) is so flatly written that Icy pretty much eclipses her. Their two fights are amazingly fast and intense - you'll need to rewind and rewatch them to get all the moves. So I do recommend this film from the action's point of view, but be warned: it also contains some very explicit, long and pretty rough sex scenes - definitely not a family film, this. (**1/2)
